Lockhart Resigns, Snape Takes Over

The recent petrification incidents and student disappearances had left Lockhart panicked.

He sat in his office, propping up his head uneasily. He had just heard that three Gryffindor students had disappeared as well—and they were Harry and the others.

"Wasn't Hogwarts supposed to be the safest place?"

When he had interviewed for the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor position, Dumbledore had indeed said that Hogwarts was the safest place in the entire wizarding world.
