Background / History
Before becoming Demon King, Theresa was a civilian hero rising to prominence in Kazdel. She personally managed a refugee settlement, where survivors regarded her with admiration and deference for helping them live with greater security and peace. She considered herself less capable than her brother Theresis at uniting people, but remained committed to relieving suffering where she could. 302 303
Theresa and Theresis share a childhood attachment to a bolt of fabric from their former home. Theresa risked leaving camp to retrieve it, intending to use it to mend clothing; Theresis viewed the cloth as meaningful but valued her safety above it. 302 305
By the Royal Court conference, Theresa had become Kazdel's Demon King and was willing to directly ask the gathered leaders whether Kazdel should be defended. Though initially uncertain of her suitability for the throne, she grew into a ruler capable of confronting the Royal Courts, restructuring authority, and pursuing reforms despite opposition. 315 320 464 496
Appearance
Theresa is a slight, gentle-looking Sarkaz woman whose manner is repeatedly compared to a small white flower. Her delicate appearance often contrasts with her political resolve. 302 489
- Pink eyes. 331
- Slender build; Lamaline worries that she does not eat enough. 475
- Wears the Black Crown as Demon King, though she removes it in private. 317 329
- Her hands bear faint Originium crystals after experimenting with its purification and transfer. 503
Personality
Theresa is compassionate, patient, and attentive to ordinary Sarkaz. She personally participated in disaster relief, treated refugees with dignity, and repeatedly prioritized civilian welfare even when doing so complicated her political position. 303 478 489
Her gentleness does not make her passive. When nobles threatened the refugees under her protection, she faced them calmly; as Demon King, she rejected Dukale's coercion, resisted Theresis's demands for the Black Crown, and refused to abandon her belief that Kazdel could pursue a future beyond endless war. 303 457 464 499
Initially inexperienced in political conflict and intelligence gathering, Theresa gradually becomes more calculating. She recognizes the importance of legitimacy, understands Theresis's attempts to erode her public support, and uses a proposal to share power to strengthen Babel and the Banshee Court while pressuring the Royal Courts. 477 489 496
Abilities & Skills
Emotional Perception
Theresa can sense emotions and attempt to perceive thoughts, though her ability is imperfect. She could not hear Maria's thoughts and admitted that she had been covertly sensing Maria's emotions instead. 303
- Provides insight into a person's disposition; Theresa believes Renia is not responsible for the Originium-tainted food incident based on her perception. 630
- Cannot reliably read every mind, particularly Maria's. 303
- Her emotional influence can be treated as Originium Arts and amplified with sufficient Originium. 533
Black Crown
The Black Crown is Theresa's symbol and source of Demon King authority. It is also described as a controller from another civilization, called Civilization's Continuance. 476 502 533
- Contains memories and knowledge associated with prior Demon Kings, including information about the Great Beast. 330
- Can manipulate Originium; Theresis specifically seeks it for this capability. 499
- Allows Theresa to suppress Originium's spread and growth to a degree, though she cannot fully eliminate it. 503
- Enables her to transfer Originium rather than cure Oripathy outright. 503
- May contain Ananna, the core controller of the Originium Project; Theresa identifies this as a possible way to control Originium and calm Kazdel's collective fear. 533
- Its use has contributed to Theresa's worsening Oripathy and physical strain. 489 498
Leadership and Diplomacy
Theresa leads through reassurance, consultation, and reforms rather than intimidation. She listens to proposals, adopts arguments she finds sound, and attempts to persuade others when she disagrees. 529
- Prevented large-scale Royal Court troop movements while Babel pursued diplomacy to keep war from spreading to Kazdel. 457
- Reformed the Royal Court Conference into a forum for discussing Kazdel's future direction. 494
- Distributed Kazdel's defensive construction to the Banshee Court and diplomacy and welfare facilities to Babel. 496
- Pursued a peace initiative with Laterano, including support for Renia and joint Sarkaz–Sankta teams. 621 631

Relationships
- Maria — Trusted friend, mentor, and political safeguard. Theresa values Maria's counsel, trusts that she will not harm her, and develops conflicted romantic feelings for her despite Maria being Lamaline's wife. 320 337 473 474
- Theresis — Older brother, former protector, and later political rival. They retain familial concern for one another, but clash over Kazdel's future, the Black Crown, and the use of force. 304 499 500

Story Role / Major Arcs
Refugee Leader and Meeting Maria
Theresa meets Maria while recovering fabric from her childhood home. After realizing Maria noticed her attempts to probe her thoughts, Theresa apologizes. Maria later accompanies her to the refugee settlement, where Theresa's care for displaced Sarkaz becomes clear. 302 303
When a noble provokes the refugees into conflict, Theresa tries to halt the violence despite being physically restrained for her safety. Theresis intervenes, while Maria's protection establishes the beginning of a lasting connection between Theresa and Maria. 304 305
Ascension and Defense of Kazdel
As Demon King, Theresa takes the initiative at the Royal Court conference by asking whether Kazdel should be defended. She struggles with feelings of inadequacy but is encouraged by Maria to recognize that stabilizing the populace and mobilizing Kazdel are major achievements. 315 320
Theresa later chooses to surrender to invading forces for the Sarkaz's future, enters a blood-red realm inhabited by Demon Kings' spirits, and retrieves Ananna. The ordeal leaves her in a prolonged sleep and severely weakened after awakening. 447 448
Royal Court Struggle
Facing Royal Court pressure, Theresa becomes increasingly forceful. She rejects Dukale's coercion, weakens Royal Court authority, and establishes the Kazdel Military Committee, elevating Theresis to Regent King despite the risk that their differing ideals will eventually make them rivals. 464 468
When her position weakens, Theresa considers leaving Kazdel City with Babel, but Maria warns that abandoning her capital would destroy her legitimacy. Theresa instead resolves to remain Demon King, recognizes Theresis's methods of undermining her reputation, and begins treating the struggle as a political conflict rather than a family disagreement. 477 489
At the Royal Court Conference, Theresa proposes sharing her authority. Rather than hand the throne to Theresis, she entrusts defense to the Banshee Court and diplomacy and welfare to Babel, strengthening her allies without openly assigning power to Maria. 495 496
Black Crown Research and Conflict with Theresis
Theresa secretly experiments with the Black Crown to reduce Originium's harmful effects, contracting or worsening Oripathy in the process. Though her efforts cannot cure Oripathy, she succeeds in suppressing its growth and transferring it. 498 503
Theresis discovers her experiments and demands the Black Crown. Theresa refuses, declaring that she is no longer the helpless seamstress he once protected and that Babel exists to improve Kazdel through law and reform. 499
Their dispute escalates when Theresis demands her abdication. Theresa insists that peace must include guarantees of dignity, support for soldiers, and care for fallen soldiers' families; Maria's intervention prevents Theresis from forcibly taking the Black Crown. 500
Crisis in Kazdel
When Kazdel becomes trapped amid a threat connected to Gordan, Theresa keeps refugees inside the city to prevent further monster growth. Her secrecy causes many to question her leadership and demand to leave. 532
Theresa rejects Maria's proposal to turn people into Originium for greater power. Instead, she reveals the Black Crown and proposes approaching death to retrieve the Originium she encountered in her dreams, accepting the personal risk as the alternative to sacrificing her people. 533 534
Laterano Peace Initiative
Theresa treats Maria's connection to Laterano as sensitive information and chooses not to publicize it. Rather than seek immediate revenge against Laterano, she requests a diplomatic visit as Sarkaz Demon King. 621
In Laterano, Theresa's courteous manner challenges local stereotypes of the Sarkaz. Even after Originium-tainted food injures her, she remains composed and refuses to assume Renia's guilt. 625 630
Theresa supports Renia's rise and proposes joint Sankta Defense Force–Sarkaz teams, believing that the peace conference must succeed if the Sarkaz are to escape their cycle of conflict with Laterano. 631
