Qin Chu grinned and laughed.
"I don't believe in loyalty or feelings. Compared to those, an exchange of benefits puts my mind more at ease. If you want someone to work for you, you have to offer them something in return, right?"
"Besides, Skyfire Meteor is merely the weakest of the Transcendent Magic spells I know. There's no harm in giving it to that girl."
Qin Chu's talent was exceptional. During his first cycle, he had scarcely touched low-level magic. The first spells he learned had been advanced ones, and the magic power within him had been sufficient to support them.
The number of Transcendent Magic spells he had mastered even exceeded the total number recorded across the Skyvault Continent. Most of them had been created by Qin Chu himself. Whenever he fought, he basically started with Transcendent Magic.
On the contrary, because he had never encountered low-level magic, he could not think of any suitable spells for the moment. Creating his own magic required powerful magic power as support, and he could not do that yet.
After Devouring Matras, Qin Chu's spiritual power, strength, stamina, and agility had all increased to a certain extent, and his level had risen a little as well.
That was why Qin Chu had asked Candice to copy down the low- and mid-level magic spells she knew and give them to him. After all, he still needed some means of combat—power unknown to the soon-to-arrive members of the Hero's Party, who would also count as his teachers.
"You can learn low- and mid-level magic from me. I know lots of spells, and teaching you wouldn't be a problem." Saya was a little displeased that Qin Chu had asked Candice instead of her.
"The magic mastered by the Dark Witch probably isn't something I can use freely, is it?"
"Although I'm planning to do some terrible things, I don't want an extra label over my head saying I'm a Hero tainted by dark power."
Saya puffed out her cheeks, seemingly sulking.
The surroundings fell somewhat silent.
Nearly a hundred streetlamps encircled the residence, making the nearby area as bright as day. No matter what living thing approached, it would be visible down to the finest detail.
Every ten meters, a fully armed soldier stood guard.
Qin Chu memorized every one of their positions.
In the distance, he could see several luxurious noble carriages already parked before the residence gates. He knew these nobles were waiting to present their invitations the very instant the Hero awakened.
To these nobles, the Hero's ability to fight Demonic Beasts was only an incidental benefit. What they truly valued was the profit a Hero could bring. If they could establish a good relationship with him, the benefits would be countless. No one was willing to let others beat them to the punch.
A light-footed figure was also making her way down the road to the residence. It was Angelica.
Her emerald-green hair streamed behind her, and the hope shining from her face was plain to see.
She had safely left the Holy Church, carrying very few personal belongings with her.
Just as Qin Chu had judged, no matter how much Rosweisse hated Angelica or wanted to kill her, even if Rosweisse had truly prepared to act, Augustus would never allow it to happen.
Among his many enemies, Augustus could be called the most unusual one. Qin Chu had interacted with him more times than Saint Monica and Wadsworth combined. He could sense that Augustus seemed to want something from him, but he did not know what that thing was.
The moment Angelica arrived at the residence gates, she was immediately surrounded by a crowd.
Everyone knew that Angelica had become the Hero's personal maid. She was practically the Hero's spokesperson.
A great many invitations were stuffed into Angelica's hands.
Seeing Angelica's helpless expression, Qin Chu even found it a little amusing, and a smile spread across his face.
This was good. Letting Angelica deal with those nobles would spare him a great deal of trouble.
"Come to think of it, your plan to kill with a borrowed knife is pretty good. Using Demonic Beasts to get rid of a Hero's Party member... how despicable and shameless."
"How sinister. I'm increasingly convinced that you have the potential to become a Demonic Beast."
"But is your target really only the death of Shield Guard Benson?" At some point, Saya's expression had grown serious.
When Qin Chu had been speaking with Candice earlier, Saya had remained silent, but that did not mean she could not see Qin Chu's true objective.
"Of course it's not just that. Benson deserves to die, but the authority he possesses is quite useful."
"Pseudo Absolute Defense!"
"If I get the chance, I want to Devour that authority." Qin Chu revealed his true goal.
"Just that?"
But Saya did not let Qin Chu off. "If I remember correctly, Shield Guard Benson's route seems to pass through a certain place..."
"The territory of the Storm Witch, where..."
"There is a Soul Fragment of Jello!"
The second update is here.
Maid Duties (1)
The Storm Witch's territory!
Jello's Soul Fragment.
Sure enough, he could not hide it from Saya.
That made sense. Saya had been the one to tell him this information, so she would naturally be more sensitive when she saw Shield Guard Benson's route.
Qin Chu's reaction made Saya increasingly certain of her guess. Her slender body no longer sat on Qin Chu's shoulder. Instead, she lightly floated directly before him, her crimson eyes staring fixedly at Qin Chu.
Her voice was low and hoarse, even carrying rage she could not suppress.
"Sure enough, your target was never Shield Guard Benson at all. It was Jello's Soul Fragment..."
Since Saya had already seen through him, Qin Chu stopped hiding anything. "I have a dream!"
"Huh?"
Saya was a little dumbfounded. She did not understand whether this Hero had suddenly lost his mind.
They were discussing something vital, a matter of life and death, yet he was rambling about some dream? Was he sick?
"What exactly are you trying to do?"
Saya's inability to understand the reference made Qin Chu feel a little lonely. He spread his hands, his face full of righteous dignity. "I hope that one day, I can hold Jello's Soul Fragment in my hand and say to Rosweisse..."
"Ekaterina..."
"Athena..."
"Eileen, Aili..."
"Sylph..."
"'You wouldn't want to see me crush Jello's soul, would you?'"
The words he spoke with such a solemn face were actually this terrible. Saya's forehead filled with black lines. Although she still did not understand Qin Chu's reference, she could at least tell that it was definitely nothing good.
Moreover, all six names Qin Chu had mentioned belonged to female members of the Hero's Party.
What filthy and depraved thoughts this fellow held in his heart went without saying.
"You bastard, don't tell me you want to use Jello's Soul Fragment to threaten those women into doing all sorts of terrible things?" Saya raised an eyebrow, her face full of contempt.
This woman really did not know how to speak nicely. What did she mean by all sorts of terrible things? Could she not put it in a more elegant way?
Though Saya was telling the truth.
Compared to the male members of the Hero's Party, Qin Chu's hatred for those women was even deeper.
Years of spending day and night together, occasional flirtations, occasional intimate contact—for Qin Chu, who had never had a girlfriend before, the impact had been astonishing. Even though he had always been secretly in love with Rosweisse, his heart had still been stirred, and he had even developed the illusion that he was popular.
At the time, Qin Chu had even felt that perhaps the Skyvault Continent was a place more suited to him than Earth.
Qin Chu could not forget Athena swaying her graceful, voluptuous body, leaning against his shoulder, her tender cherry lips close to his ear as she softly whispered, "Hey, do you like older women?"
He could not forget Ekaterina drunkenly muttering while draped over him after he carried her back from a tavern, "It's because I'm tall and have such a wild personality that no boy likes me. I really want to get married. Hey, do you want to marry me?"
Nor could he forget the one private date he had shared with Ghost Archer Sylph. "I like men stronger than me. In the Hero's Party, only the Hero is stronger than I am!"
Still less could he forget the sisters Aili and Eileen, each wrapping around one of his arms with happy smiles on their faces. "We like Hero Big Brother the most..."
Qin Chu had truly believed that his spring had arrived.
Even though he had secretly loved Rosweisse, throughout the seven years of war in his first cycle, Qin Chu had still done everything he could to protect them, never allowing them to suffer even the slightest injury.
Thinking back on it now, he must have looked like nothing more than a clown in their eyes, right?
Everything had been deception, nothing but his own wishful thinking.
Benson could simply be killed in a trap.
But Qin Chu absolutely had to deal with those women personally. Killing them outright would be letting them off too easily. It would not be enough to vent the blazing rage in his chest.
Jello's Soul Fragment was a very useful tool. Qin Chu would use it to threaten them, watch the expressions of hatred and humiliation on their faces as they loathed him beyond measure yet had no choice but to submit beneath him. After tormenting both their bodies and minds until they were covered in wounds, he would mercilessly shatter Jello's Soul Fragment.
The despair on those beautiful faces would probably be the most beautiful scenery in the world.
Twisted? Perhaps it was very twisted.
Cruel? It was certainly cruel.
This was Qin Chu now. The people of this world had turned the once pure and kind man into this twisted figure, and they could only bear the consequences themselves.
"What a perverted fellow. I'm increasingly beginning to suspect that your true nature is a twisted Demonic Beast..." Saya deliberately teased him.
She understood Qin Chu's thoughts and could not help sighing. "I won't stop you from taking revenge on the Hero's Party members, but I must remind you that none of the Witches are easy to provoke."
"The Storm Witch is among the weaker surviving Witches, but she is still absolutely not someone you can face right now. Her strength definitely surpasses that of the Hero's Party members. She is probably no weaker than Wadsworth, Augustus, or Saint Monica. Do you think you can snatch Jello's Soul Fragment from the Storm Witch's hands?"
Strength of that level was beyond Qin Chu's reach for now.
If he rashly appeared before the Storm Witch, forget Qin Chu—even Saya might be torn apart by the raging gale.
"Man proposes, Heaven disposes. From the time Candice informs the Seventh Prince, then the Seventh Prince investigates and confirms there are no issues before taking action, it will take quite some time. During that period, I'll improve my strength as much as possible."
Qin Chu had his own plans. With the experience from his first cycle and the Devourer's talent, it might not be impossible if he made good use of them.
"Of course, I won't gamble with my own life. If it really can't be done, I won't take the initiative to throw my life away. You can rest assured of that. I still want to see this world march toward destruction with my own eyes." Qin Chu's lips curled into an arc as he reassured Saya.
On the lamppost, Qin Chu stretched lazily.
"It's getting late. It's time for us to go back too."
His body transformed into a bat and swept through the night sky, returning to the room through the window he had opened earlier.
The illusion on the bed gradually dissipated. Qin Chu casually rubbed his eyes and hair, putting on a sleepy-eyed appearance before pushing open the door.
Nicholas had faithfully kept watch outside. Hearing the movement, he immediately spun around. "Hero, what are your orders?"
"What's going on outside? Why is it so noisy?" Qin Chu yawned and muttered in dissatisfaction. His acting was getting better and better.
"Reporting to you, Hero, quite a few nobles have gathered at the entrance and wish to meet you. Miss Angelica is receiving them." Nicholas's brow furrowed almost imperceptibly.
In this world, maids held low status. They existed only to serve their masters, and this service encompassed every aspect. No matter what needs their masters had, maids were not permitted to refuse.
Nicholas was a genuine Knight, yet merely because Angelica was the Hero's maid, he had to address her with an honorific. It made Nicholas somewhat unhappy, as though his Knight's Glory had been stained.
"Angelica is here?" Qin Chu's eyes suddenly lit up. "Ahem, have Angelica come over."
A smile that all men understood appeared on Nicholas's face. This Hero truly was a man of temperament.
Angelica had only just arrived, and he already could not hold himself back? He had heard that the Hero was an extreme maid enthusiast, rejecting even the Saintess and the Imperial Princess in favor of Angelica.
He truly could not understand what was so appealing about such a lowly maid.
Nicholas muttered to himself as he accepted the order and left.
Before long, Angelica had arrived at the bedroom door under Nicholas's guidance.
Her pretty cheeks still held a faint crimson flush, and a misty sheen seemed to fill her golden eyes. Angelica felt her face burn, her entire body grow hot, and her heart beat ever more fiercely.
At a time like this, asking a maid to enter the bedroom to serve him—only an idiot would not know what that meant.
This was one of a maid's duties: attending her master in bed!
Angelica followed Qin Chu into the bedroom. She had already prepared herself to offer up her pure body.
Thanks to Zuilanfeng and Jiuye for the monthly votes. Thank you for the support.
Winning Over Angelica (2)
Angelica knew this moment would come sooner or later. She simply had not expected it to come so quickly. Though serving her master was a maid's duty, was Hero really not being a little too impatient?
But she was only a maid. To a maid, her master's command was absolute.
Angelica gently shut the door. In the spacious room, only Angelica and Qin Chu remained. The magical lamp in the room cast a soft glow, making Angelica's pretty face flush even redder.
It was clearly an entirely ordinary atmosphere, yet Angelica found it especially suggestive.
Her small hand rested over her chest as her heart pounded violently.
Angelica's heart was filled with gratitude toward Qin Chu.
