It was easy to imagine how much Rosweisse had embezzled and accepted in bribes by exploiting her identity as the Saintess. She was truly rotten to the core.
The most infuriating part was that, in the first loop, Rosweisse had often pestered Qin Chu to buy her clothes. Whenever they went out to eat, Qin Chu had always been the one paying the bill.
This woman had been pretending to be poor all along.
But on second thought, how many precious materials did Rosweisse need to resurrect Jello? All of that had to be bought with money. She had even cultivated a force of her own. Could any of that be done without money?
To emphasize once again, Qin Chu was not doing this for the money. Mainly, this was simply too depraved. He truly could not stand such shameless behavior. Filled with intense indignation, Qin Chu stuffed the storage ring into his pocket.
At some point, Qin Chu's eyes had curved into crescent moons from smiling.
He had nearly forgotten why he had come here in the first place. With the mindset of ransacking a house, Qin Chu snapped his fingers at Saya.
"Saya, next..."
Saya was delighted as well. She was even less lacking in money than Qin Chu.
As the strongest witch, Saya was absolutely wealthy enough to rival a nation.
But...
For some reason, Saya had always liked sparkling things. Crystals, gemstones, gold coins, banknotes—these things always brought her a unique kind of joy, to the point that Saya suspected she might have dragon blood in her veins.
After time had reversed, her physical body had collapsed.
She could only parasitize Qin Chu, and the wealth she had accumulated in her previous life had vanished into nothingness. Now that she had a chance to make a windfall, Saya felt especially happy.
Before Qin Chu could even give the order, Saya had already floated to another location. It was a section of the wall on the left, protected by another highly sophisticated and intricate magical restriction. Even Qin Chu could not sense any trace of it.
But before Saya's superb skills, Rosweisse's restriction was useless. It was easily opened, revealing another storage ring inside.
Once magic power was poured into it, everything inside the ring appeared before Qin Chu and Saya.
This time, it was no longer banknotes. Instead, the entire storage ring was packed full of... Holy Crystals. Multicolored light shone so brightly that Qin Chu's eyes ached.
Holy Crystals were an extremely precious mineral on the Skyvault Continent. If they existed on Earth, they would be a combination of diamonds and gold: as beautiful and valuable as diamonds, and as useful as gold in all sorts of important fields.
For the humans of the Skyvault Continent, Holy Crystals could be carved into the most beautiful accessories for royal princesses and noble young ladies.
For mages, Holy Crystals could be embedded into wands, allowing them to conduct magical power more effectively.
For warriors, Holy Crystals could be embedded into armor. After special enchantment treatment, they could make the armor even harder.
At the same time, Holy Crystals stored a large amount of pure elemental power. For any cultivator, they could not only aid training, but also replenish magic power or Battle Qi when one's internal reserves were depleted.
In short, Holy Crystals had an extremely wide range of uses.
But they were scarce and exceptionally precious, which made their price outrageously high.
Without exaggeration, the Holy Crystals in this storage ring were worth even more than a storage ring full of banknotes.
Qin Chu and Saya had completely turned into bandits. After sweeping the first floor clean, they headed straight upstairs. Qin Chu had nearly forgotten his original purpose.
Every restriction contained a storage ring.
"This time, we've struck it rich..." Saya rubbed her hands excitedly.
Qin Chu glanced at Saya in surprise. It was the first time he had learned that this strongest of witches was actually a money grubber.
The image of the strongest witch in his mind felt like it had collapsed a little.
Saya's eyes gleamed. "These three rings should have plenty of money in them too. We split it seventy-thirty."
Qin Chu was a little dissatisfied. "Why do I only get seventy percent?"
Saya let out a mocking breath. "Seventy percent is mine."
"What do you need that much money for? You can't even spend it now."
"Then... keep it with you for now. Interest will be six percent..."
He had heard of high-interest loans, but never high-interest deposits.
Was this woman really the Dark Witch? Wasn't she actually the Money Witch?
Qin Chu did not take Saya's words seriously. He picked up one of the rings, and when he saw what was inside, he could not help feeling a little disappointed. The huge storage ring was not stuffed full like the previous two with Mana and Holy Crystals. There were only nine notebooks inside.
He casually took one out and glanced through it. Qin Chu immediately put aside his contempt, and a strange smile appeared on his face.
"What happened? Why are you smiling so sinisterly?"
"Nothing. These notebooks are rather interesting." Qin Chu smiled as he put the books away.
In Qin Chu's view, these notebooks were even more valuable than Holy Crystals and Mana.
From Rosweisse's perspective, the nine notebooks recorded every little moment the other nine members of the Hero's Party had shared with the First-Generation Hero, Jello.
Perhaps Rosweisse had wanted to preserve them as beautiful memories?
But when Qin Chu picked up the next storage ring, he immediately overturned that guess. Inside the other storage ring was only one thick diary, and its contents clearly revealed Rosweisse's intense, nearly mad possessiveness.
She harbored fierce hostility toward anyone who approached Hero Jello.
Even men.
The entire diary could be called a collection of Rosweisse's dark side.
She had written every word she could not say publicly and every thought she could not expose into the diary, almost as if she were venting.
Whenever Athena, Ekaterina, Sylph, or those other women approached Jello, whenever Jello laughed and chatted with another woman, Rosweisse became so jealous she nearly went mad. The entire diary was filled with words like bitch and slut.
Rosweisse had even designed dozens of different deaths for each of her nine comrades in the diary, every one more miserable than the last.
No wonder Rosweisse had sealed this diary away so carefully with magical restrictions. Beneath that woman's outward elegance and holiness, too much negative pressure had accumulated. She could only release the repression in her heart this way, but the diary absolutely could not be exposed. Otherwise, her image as the Saintess would be utterly destroyed.
After putting away that storage ring, Qin Chu opened the last one.
Seven scrolls were stored inside the final storage ring.
The seven scrolls seemed to be made from some unknown material. They differed slightly from ordinary parchment scrolls, their overall color dark and dull, giving off an extremely uncomfortable feeling.
The surface of the scrolls was covered in dense, chain-like markings, with countless ancient and obscure words flowing across them. Just one glance made Qin Chu's eyes sting, and he nearly began to tear up.
Dark black mist also coiled around the chain-like markings on the scrolls' surfaces.
The chains were pulled taut, and beneath them, something seemed poised to break free from their restraints.
For no reason, goosebumps rose across Qin Chu's body. In a daze, he seemed to see countless twisted and sinister figures writhing atop the scrolls.
Danger!
In that brief instant, Qin Chu broke out in a cold sweat. As the Hero of the first loop, Qin Chu had been able to tear the Demon King apart with his bare hands. No one on the Skyvault Continent had been his match.
Though he was weak now, his courage and will remained.
Yet now, Qin Chu felt his scalp go numb. His reason kept warning him that those were things he absolutely could not touch. Absolutely not.
"Open it..."
A soft voice suddenly sounded in his mind.
The voice seemed to carry boundless temptation.
His trembling fingers reached toward one of the scrolls.
He clearly did not want to touch it...
Why...
At last, Qin Chu's finger touched one of the scrolls.
Buzz...
In an instant, Qin Chu felt a stormy sea erupt within his mind, a savage impact churning through his consciousness.
Before his eyes lay endless darkness and a Void of unknown distance. Within that Void was imprinted a massive spherical object, its surface covered with countless vertical eyes.
From the spherical object extended innumerable markings like enormous black pythons, wild and sinister.
The black pythons seemed to dance and writhe without any pattern. In the end, they tangled together, transforming into a massive chain that extended deeper into the Void.
At the end of the chain formed by those pythons was a gigantic cage!
Thanks to Muliang, Faint Ghost Shadow, and Sleepy Playful Shallow Dream for the monthly tickets. Thanks to Pai Paimeng for the reward, and thanks everyone for the support.
Which bastard deserves to be cut into a thousand pieces? (2)
Following the chains formed from those pythons, they seemed to stretch all the way to the end of the Void.
Qin Chu saw it: a gigantic cage.
Chains wrapped around the cage layer upon layer, densely packed. Thick black fog swirled around it, writhing violently like blazing flames.
Countless distorted shadows seemed to drift through the fog. He could vaguely smell a pungent stench of blood, and hear faint whispers and wails that made his head spin.
His brain throbbed in waves. Qin Chu stood there dumbfounded, feeling as though his heart was about to stop beating.
He understood even more clearly that he had seen something extraordinary, a sight that humans were absolutely not meant to witness.
What... was that thing?
The massive spherical object imprinted at the other end of the chains, deep within the Void, seemed to sense the gaze of a stranger. The countless vertical eyes on its surface slowly turned, all adjusting their direction as they looked toward him.
In an instant, Qin Chu's body was watched by thousands upon thousands of eyeballs. His body reacted immediately. Frantic, chaotic screams tore through his eardrums. Strange, twisted figures filled his vision. Mysterious fluctuations echoed in his mind, and he felt as though his soul were about to explode.
A tearing pain spread across his skin.
Countless eyes rapidly sprouted from Qin Chu's skin like parasites.
Qin Chu had only taken one look, yet intense despair, madness, and evilness, mixed with countless fragments of images enough to drive one insane, surged wildly into his soul.
It seemed as though some sinister thing was about to seize his body and awaken within his flesh.
Hiss...
At that moment, Qin Chu's body suddenly shook violently, and the horrifying scenes before his eyes receded like a tide.
It was as if everything he had just seen had merely been an illusion.
But Qin Chu knew full well that it could not be explained away as an illusion. He covered his eyes with both hands, and bloody tears seeped through the gaps between his fingers. His clothes were soaked through with cold sweat, clinging to his skin. His muscles were tensed as though cramping, and his mind remained a mess.
A knife was still embedded in Qin Chu's arm, blood pouring steadily from the wound.
Saya had done it.
The time just now had been brief. Saya had only seen Qin Chu suddenly freeze in place and tremble violently. She had no idea what Qin Chu had seen. She tried to wake him, but failed. Qin Chu could not hear her voice at all.
Saya could also sense that the authority of Forced Calm had been activated dozens of times in an incredibly short span, yet it still had not woken Qin Chu from the hallucination.
Saya keenly sensed that something was wrong. At that critical moment, she chose a simple, brutal, yet highly effective method: she stabbed Qin Chu directly, using the intense pain to force him to calm down.
Judging from things now, the effect had been fairly good.
Saya could sense traces of mental contamination already appearing on Qin Chu.
She said nothing. With a grave expression, she floated beside Qin Chu, looking at him, then at the scrolls. Who could have imagined that such bizarre and sinister objects would be stored in the private chamber of the Holy Church's Saintess?
Only after a long time did Qin Chu take a deep breath and finally stand up. His trembling body gradually calmed. He pulled out the knife, then cast Water Healing, and the wound slowly closed.
He looked at the seven scrolls with lingering fear. Rosweisse had hidden far more deeply than Qin Chu had imagined.
Just one of these scrolls had nearly taken Qin Chu's life, yet there were seven in total.
He did not know what exactly was hidden within the scrolls, but Qin Chu had a feeling that if he allowed them to remain here for Rosweisse to study, then sooner or later, that woman would become his most terrifying enemy.
After waking up, Qin Chu did not mention the scrolls at all. He merely put the storage ring away in silence.
But the scene he had just seen left an impression in Qin Chu's heart that he would never forget. What exactly was that enormous spherical object covered in eyes?
And what kind of existence was imprisoned in that cage at the end of the Void?
What did the remaining six scrolls represent?
It felt as though he had carelessly become involved in some unbelievable trouble.
Though he was full of doubts, Qin Chu knew that this was not something his current self could investigate. At the very least, before his strength returned to the level of the first loop, Qin Chu would absolutely not recklessly touch those strange scrolls again.
After sorting everything out, Qin Chu quickly returned downstairs. He still had not found the true target of this operation: Rosweisse's remaining six bottles of Love That Topples Cities.
He had thought they would be hidden behind those magical restrictions. Who could have expected that they concealed something even more terrifying?
The only places left unsearched were the desk, the wardrobe, and beneath the bed...
But Rosweisse was an extremely cautious woman. She probably would not leave something so important in such an obvious place. That was the sort of thing Ekaterina would do...
The Love That Topples Cities potion was most likely carried on Rosweisse's person?
