Jon Stark
When the king's carriages entered the city, the roads were naturally cleared in advance. Ordinary carriages and carts had to hide first, while common people were allowed to stand on both sides of the road to welcome him.
The commoners of King's Landing all craned their necks, their eyes wide, as if trying to scrutinize their newly enthroned king. As residents of the capital, this was something they could boast about later.
Of course, some cheering was inevitably given in the process, creating the impression that the king was very popular and the one everyone wanted.
When Stannis spoke, he stood up straight and looked straight ahead, so no one except Jon could tell that he was talking.
"As expected, I knew you'd ask that," Jon thought to himself, then turned slightly to reply, "Your Majesty, these Direwolf banners do not represent Robb, but Lord Eddard. In a sense, he was the first to sacrifice himself for his country."
Jon looked into Stannis's blue eyes and said bluntly. In fact, he could have been more explicit—"My father died for your crown"—but that would have been too much, and Stannis, with his limited intelligence, probably wouldn't have understood the implication.
Sure enough, Stannis's expression softened after hearing Jon's explanation.
Soon the group passed through the already opened gates of the Red Keep. Stannis's soldiers, whom he had sent in advance, had taken over the area, and his Flaming Stag Banner had long since been raised atop the castle's spires.
The others followed closely behind, and the group headed straight for the Throne Room, where the Iron Throne was located, without going anywhere else for the time being.
When Jon accompanied Stannis to the hall first, their footsteps echoed slightly, but the echo disappeared as more people entered.
Although the group was not uniform in age and speed, and included the queen and others in carriages, they still arrived on time.
Everyone in the hall moved quietly, with Sansa and the other girls standing behind Selyse as her attendants.
Although Stannis's subjects were also divided into the King's faction Queen's faction, they did not openly stand on either side.
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Stannis walked step by step toward the tall and menacing Iron Throne. Almost all the light from the crowd was focused on him, as if witnessing the birth of a new king.
In that brief moment, Jon and Varys ' eyes met, and a hint of a smile appeared in Varys ' eyes.
Soon, Stannis's boots clattered on the steel steps, and as he sat on the Iron Throne, Grand Master Pycelle proclaimed, "May he enjoy lasting peace!"
May he enjoy lasting peace and prosperity.
-"
The crowd cheered, and then Alester stepped forward and said, "Your Majesty, now that the Iron Throne has welcomed its true master, I believe we should immediately prepare a formal coronation ceremony."
"Yes, Your Majesty, another coronation ceremony should be held."
Everyone agreed, since the ceremony on Dragonstone was rather rushed. A proper king should follow proper procedures, such as being crowned at the Great Sept of Baelor.
Looking at his defeated troops, Stannis's previously excited gaze fell silent again.
He spoke coldly, "A coronation? Tywin is entrenched in the Westerlands, Robb Stark the usurper has declared himself king in Riverrun, Balon Greyjoy has reignited his rebellion. How can I possibly accept a coronation in peace?"
Stannis really disliked the Queen's Queen's faction, so he reprimanded them. Axell and the others also shut their mouths in annoyance. Although this matter had nothing to do with Sansa, she still couldn't help but shrink behind Selyse.
Although this wasn't the first time she'd seen a king reprimand someone, she remembered two kings: Robert and Joffrey. Joffrey aside, Robert's voice was so loud when he was angry that it seemed the whole of King's Landing could hear his roar.
This new king is a completely different style, giving the feeling of being drenched in cold rain.
Stannis's blue eyes swept across the hall. No one whispered or looked around; everyone stood quietly, waiting for the new king to speak.
"Lord Eddard Stark, Warden of the North, Duke of Winterfell, gave his life to uphold the kingdom's justice. I will restore his honor and send his bones back to the North."
Stannis's first decree after officially becoming king was this, but upon reflection, it made no problem, and everyone praised Stannis's wisdom and benevolence.
"Former Queen Cersei Lannister, suspected of adultery, disrupting the royal bloodline, and attempting to usurp the throne, is hereby expelled from the royal family and stripped of her noble status. Her two remaining children Tommen Baratheon and Myrcella Baratheon, are also expelled from the royal family, and their bastard surname— Waters— is restored!"
Stannis's first two laws were essentially about inheritance rights, which is not surprising.
At this time, Cersei and her son were still on Dragonstone under strict guard, as the Westerlands were still in Tywin's hands, and some important places needed to be settled as soon as possible.
From now on, there will be no Myrcella Baratheon and Tommen Baratheon, only Myrcella Waters and Tommen Waters.
Because they were illegitimate children born in Crownlands.
However, this first court assembly "began by turning the legitimate son into an illegitimate son, and the next step was to legalize the illegitimate son."
Stannis looked at Martin and Monde and said, "Martyn Rivers, Monde Rivers, you have rendered meritorious service in helping Jon Snow ambush the Mountain and conquer King's Landing. From this day forward, I legitimize you as Martin Darry and Monde Darry, and I will find you a new fief."
"Thank you, Your Majesty." The two brothers knelt down in unison. To have their father's surname was the dream of almost every illegitimate child.
"Will Jon become Stark like us?" Arya whispered to Sansa from behind Selyse.
"Of course, is that even a question?"
"But since Jon has made the greatest contribution, why not reward him first?"
"The one who deserves the most credit should be rewarded last." It was Selyse who spoke, and although she didn't turn around, her voice still reached the sisters' ears clearly.
After Martin and Monde came Beric Dondarrion.
He knelt before Stannis to receive his investiture.
"Beric Dondarrion, although you failed to capture the Mountain, you were loyal to the King's orders and played a crucial role in the attack on the Westerlands army in the Riverlands, the subsequent recapture of King's King's Landing, and the execution of the Usurper King. Therefore, I will exempt your lands from taxes for ten years and expand your territory."
Thank you, Your Majesty.
Beric Dondarrion also knelt on the ground to accept the reward.
Soon, the most distinguished individuals received their due rewards, including Thoros, Brotherhood Without Banners, and some knights from the House Darry.
This left many members of the King's faction Queen's faction feeling quite resentful, even though they were the ones who had been with Stannis the longest and had sacrificed the most.
But there was nothing they could do; they had lost. If it weren't for the group of people receiving their rewards right now, they wouldn't even know where they would be.
Finally, after all the minor characters had received their due rewards, Stannis called out Jon's name, "Jon Snow."
As soon as Stannis finished speaking, everyone's eyes turned to Jon.
Varys ' eyes were scrutinizing, Pycelle's lips curled into a smile, Sansa and Arya held hands, and the two House Frey brothers stretched their necks out, revealing the age spots on their necks.
They thought it best to propose marriage as soon as Jon received his reward and while he was in a good mood.
Selyse pursed her thin lips, as if she wanted to devour Jon. In her opinion, if it weren't for his background, this young man could easily become Shireen's husband.
In addition, there were people like Beric Dondarrion, Thoros, Martin, Monde who accompanied him along the way.
Alester, Axell, Penny, Adrian, and other King's faction and Queen's faction members stared wide-eyed, wishing they were the ones standing there.
Jon's heart was racing. Varys was right; the Lord of Harrenhal was not good enough for him, and the Lord of Casterly Rock was not good enough for him either.
How to win this favor is now entirely up to Jon, who knelt on one knee, awaiting Stannis's investiture.
"Jon Snow, you fought Tywin's rebel army at the Battle of the Green Fork, ambushed the Mountain's army to protect the people of the Riverlands, reclaimed King's Landing, and killed the Usurper King. I think Eddard Stark would be very pleased if he knew of your achievements. From this day forward, you are no longer Jon Snow, and you no longer need to be called a bastard. I will personally bestow upon you the title of White Wolf Knight!"
