Chaotic Army
The Blue Fork, the the Green Fork, and the Red Fork all converge into the Trident River.
The Trident River flows slowly from west to east, its banks covered in snow, while a massive army marches from south to north. The flow of people and the river intertwine, creating a strange and beautiful scene.
Just two days earlier, he issued an edict in the name of Selyse, ordering the troops still at God's Eye to retreat north immediately.
Perched high above, Petyr sat in his sedan chair, watching tens of thousands of soldiers cross the wide Trident River. He felt a strange power growing within him, as if severed limbs had grown back.
The Vale, along with the Crownlands and the Stormlands, comprised nearly 70,000 troops. When Aegon launched his War of Conquest, the combined forces of the Gardener King and the Rock King numbered only around 40,000.
When the Reach's 70,000-strong army was mobilized, the entire kingdom changed color, and it was almost as if victory was assured. This was true not only during the War of the Five Kings, but also now.
If we exclude Jon as a variable...
Now I only need to slowly control this army, and I will have the same power to change the entire kingdom! Is this what it feels like to be a conqueror? Petyr thought to himself with a look of ecstasy.
Just one glance at his severed hand shattered his beautiful dream.
He thought it was all Mace's fault, that fool. He and Tywin's army of nearly 100,000 from the Westerlands couldn't even take down King's King's Landing, causing him to lose an arm and a leg. Although he had gotten his revenge in the last moments of Stannis's life, what's gone is gone.
Jon Snow, Young Griff, the Seven Kingdoms are getting more and more interesting.
After watching the seemingly endless army for a while, he looked at the boats on the river.
His and Varys ' plan was to enthrone Shireen as Queen and Selyse as Regent Queen Mother, but they also knew that the Crownlands and King's Landing would certainly not be able to withstand Jon's military might, so they planned to enthrone Shireen in the Vale.
Once Aegon's Landing Westeros, this army of 60,000 to 70,000 will fall under Young Griff's command, and he will also gain a great deal of credit.
This is where Selyse went wrong; she only knew that she had to lead the army to the Vale, but she didn't consider how to command the army at all.
If it weren't for Young Griff.'s involvement, Petyr wouldn't have dared to launch a coup. Once the pro -Jon alliance was firmly in control, he would have chosen to surrender to Jon.
However, his intuition told Petyr that Jon was a formidable opponent and that he would inevitably have to lie low for a long time. Petyr was already in his late thirties, almost forty, and in an era where even nobles only lived to around fifty, he knew he couldn't possibly outlive Jon.
The end of this life is something you can see at a glance.
However, the situation has changed. He plans to wait until he has installed Shireen as emperor before making her submit to Young Griff, thus increasing Young Griff's legitimacy and authority, and also gaining more credit for himself.
Sitting in his sedan chair, Petyr thought about all this with satisfaction, believing that he should at least ask for the title of Duke of the Vale.
The Eyrie is also a good option. In any case, the opponents in the Vale have already been slaughtered in the previous purge, so I can make my plans at my leisure.
The history of the Baelish family begins to be written today.
Petyr thought to himself with smug satisfaction.
But just then, he suddenly noticed a commotion coming from behind the army.
It even kicked up a lot of dust.
"Sir! Enemy attack! It's an enemy attack!"
The sudden attack caught Petyr off guard. He picked up his binoculars and looked over, only to see a huge plume of smoke and dust that almost swallowed the horizon.
The cloud of dust drew ever closer, like a sandstorm! Judging from the dust alone, the enemy force was certainly no small number, possibly tens of thousands.
"Shouldn't the army in the Reach still be standing still? How could that be!"
Petyr was shocked, wondering where this army came from. The closest army to them was stationed at God's Eye, but after several fierce battles, they should only have about three thousand men left.
However, before he could figure out what was going on, black flags gradually emerged from the smoke and dust.
With Jon's repeated horrific exploits, black has become the most oppressive color in the entire Seven Kingdoms. The last time black inspired such fear was when the Targaryen's Balerion the Black Dread at war.
It's Jon Snow!
The army, stretching for several squares, had many soldiers who could see what was coming before Petyr could, just as the army from the Vale had crossed the bridge.
The Crownlands and the Stormlands ' army were still waiting behind.
Upon seeing so many enemies approaching, the soldiers scattered and fled, and chaos within the army spread uncontrollably like an avalanche.
Petyr felt a chill run down his spine.
But he forced himself to calm down.
He knew that Jon's army numbered only around four thousand, and after the previous battle with Stannis, it might not even have four thousand.
He had an army of 60,000 to 70,000 men under his command; he wasn't without the possibility of defeating him.
"Defeat Jon?"
When the idea flashed into Petyr's mind, even he was startled. But he still decided to try commanding the army himself.
This isn't a matter of being impulsive or not; these 60,000 to 70,000 troops are Young Griff's greatest asset in his future conquest of Westeros, and if he does nothing, they could very well be scattered.
These troops were gathered by him through a combination of coaxing and deception in the name of Selyse, and once scattered, they could never be reassembled.
"Men! Form ranks and meet the enemy!"
Petyr shouted at the lords, but they themselves were in a state of disarray.
"Are you deaf, forming ranks to meet the enemy?"
Petyr spoke with some annoyance, and the scouts and officers around him hurriedly relayed the orders.
After much effort, Petyr managed to amass a force of less than a thousand men.
Unfortunately, the army's formation was far slower than its collapse.
"Sir, let's retreat! Look at the dust rising up; our enemy numbers at least thirty or forty thousand!"
Petyr's guards advised, noting that the black banners resembled the scepters of gods stirring the clouds. In just a few seconds, Petyr abandoned the idea of fighting Jon directly and instead focused on how to escape.
"Take me across the river!"
"Yes, sir!"
Escorted by the surrounding guards, Petyr began to approach the bridge rapidly.
Along the way, there were soldiers fleeing in panic, and some were so frightened that they jumped into the river.
These soldiers clearly grew up in Stormlands, never saw a river, and had no accurate understanding of winter temperatures.
Sure enough, the soldiers who had just jumped into the river immediately came to their senses and turned to climb back onto the surface.
But the people behind him, unaware of how cold the river was, pushed him back again.
The soldiers left in the river quickly lost body temperature and soon died.
However, there weren't many fools like that; the most common sights along the way were chaotic soldiers fighting each other over who could cross the bridge first.
It was as if behind them were not flags, but giant black dragons breathing fire.
Petyr's situation was also precarious; he was frequently targeted, whether intentionally or unintentionally.
"We are the Queen's guards, we are on our way to protect the Queen, make way! Make way now!"
"To hell with it! We have to run for our lives even if it's the Queen Mother! That's Jon Snow!"
Roars, howls, battle cries, the neighing of horses, and the crashing of waves against the shore.
Above us was a pale gray sky, and beneath our feet was snow trampled into mud.
Petyr's palanquin quickly began to sway precariously due to the chaos of the soldiers' charge.
Perhaps because the ground was too slippery, one of the guards carrying his sedan chair accidentally fell.
The sedan chair lost its balance, Petyr was thrown off.
With a whoosh, the magnificent armor was instantly covered in mud, looking like a mudfish just pulled from a field.
The guards hurriedly carried him on their backs and continued walking. Finally, after an unknown amount of effort, Petyr reached the other side of the river.
"Break the bridge! Break the bridge! Break it!"
Under Petyr's orders, the bridge, which carried the hopes of many, was dismantled, its beams and pillars broken until it collapsed completely.
Petyr had initially thought he could take Stannis's army intact, but it now appears he can only take Rondy's army.
Littlefinger glanced back angrily, still puzzled as to where Jon had gotten so many troops. He had sent men to monitor the Reach army's movements, yet he hadn't received a single word.
On Jon's side, he actually only brought a little over a thousand people, and many of them weren't even carrying flags, but rather a piece of cloth that had been dyed black.
As for the dust that was kicked up, it was created by the soldiers dragging tree branches.
With the aid of Divine Vision, Jon quelled the most chaotic part of the mutinous army, and then gradually suppressed the entire army of the Crownlands and Stormlands.
The more than 30,000 rebel troops were brought under control, and the pointless deaths and riots finally came to an end.
Even Jon spotted an old acquaintance, Vargo Hoat, amidst the chaos. As a mercenary group, Waghett's crew was among the first to be caught up in the turmoil.
Under Vargo Hoat's leadership, they successfully took over Harrenhal.
After his explanation, Jon understood the whole story.
"Then why didn't you leave with Petyr?" Jon asked, somewhat curiously.
"Your Majesty, I believe that no one in the Seven Kingdoms can rival you. Petyr is merely an ambitious man, and ambition alone is not enough to rule a kingdom. Only a ruler like yourself can achieve ultimate victory."
After all, it's not like it was a year ago anymore, and Vargo Hoat isn't a fool.
Although he hadn't witnessed Jon's terrifying record firsthand, he could still sense its significance.
He believed that none of the Seven Kingdoms could withstand Jon's presence.
As for heading to the Vale, don't be ridiculous.
There's no longer any unclaimed land in the Vale, so what's he going there for?
On the contrary, following Jon might offer the chance of receiving land and titles.
