The Belated Valyrian Steel Sword
The top of the black castle was covered with a layer of snow, as if it foresaw the approaching danger and hoped to hide itself.
However, the Night's Watch had always had ample manpower and supplies.
In Westeros, the Night's Watch is almost a separate and distinct organization.
They also possessed their own territory, which expanded during the Jaehaerys I and was known as the New Gift.
The taxes from the New Gift belong to the Night's Watch.
The Night's Watch's basic supplies, such as food and cloth, come from the New Gift.
Some fine weapons or other scarce goods were donated by Winterfell.
Now Jon is also ordering a constant stream of supplies to be sent to the Wall, and Commander-in-Chief Jeor Mormont has never been so well-off.
As for manpower, the War of the Five Kings provided the Wall with a large number of excellent knights and warriors.
Take, for example, someone like Jaime, the Kingslayer.
Furthermore, many Wildlings later chose to join the Night's Watch, though they did not swear an oath to become Night's Watch. Not every Wildlings was willing to go south; some of them still hoped to one day return to their homeland Beyond the Wall.
In short, the current Night's Watch has more than a thousand people.
Besides the increasingly cold weather, the news coming from the north was becoming more and more bizarre.
A white ghostly figure emerges from the wind and snow; blue eyes gleam in the darkness.
The Night's Night's Watch at the Wall has discovered at least a dozen movements of Wights and White Walkers.
"I thought His Majesty Jon had already pacified the Seven Kingdoms, but who would have thought that another Young Griff would suddenly appear?" In the study, Jeor Mormont, with his hands in his pockets, said to Commander Daenys beside him with a hint of helplessness.
The former is the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, Daenys is the Commander of the Shadow Tower.
Daenys was over eighty years old and could almost be considered one of the longest-serving Night's Watch on the Wall.
"But there's only one Vale left, so it shouldn't be a problem," Daenys said, his voice still full of energy.
He used to be indifferent to almost everything, and he wasn't even familiar with Jon.
But ever since he heard about the Wights haunting Castle Black, he has started to take notice of Jon.
The subsequent War of the Five Kings, the Battle of King's Landing, the Battle of Casterly Rock, and a series of other battles left him speechless with astonishment at Jon's legendary status.
Not only him, but many people on the Wall enjoyed hearing news about Jon.
It felt like listening to some kind of legend.
"My lord, His Majesty's fleet has arrived at the port," an official reported as he entered.
"Let's go greet them." Daenys stood up.
"Wait." George looked at the officer. "Bring me my sword."
The officer brought over a long box. When the box was opened, inside lay a half-sword with a water ripple pattern— the Valyrian steel!
The hilt of the sword is carved with a dragon's head.
"My son, Jorah, that brat has disgraced the family. He doesn't deserve this sword. When Jon rescued me from those Wights, I wanted to give him this sword." Jeo picked up the heavy one-and-a-half-sword. "I heard that Young Griff found Blackfyre. We should have one of our own!"
Daenys smiled and nodded, understanding his intention.
Soon, Jeor Mormont and Daenys arrived at the bay port at the mouth of the Milkwater River.
After Jon annexed the Iron Islands, he ordered them to begin expansion here in preparation for the subsequent transport of supplies.
It can now accommodate fifty sailboats at the same time.
Not only the two commanders came to greet them, but also Adam.
The one-year term was up, and he was ready to leave the Wall at any time.
He had even received a letter from Jon saying he would come to pick him up, which touched him deeply.
Of course, the same goes for Alliser and the others who were forced to go to the Wall by Tywin; Jon will also come to take them away.
They were eager to leave this godforsaken place.
"Since His Majesty is so concerned about the White Walkers and the Long Night, will you allow us to continue serving here?" a Night's Night's Watch with graying brown hair asked Alliser.
His name was Jerry, and like Alliser, he was forced to come to the Wall by Tywin.
"Probably not." Alliser, who had been full of enthusiasm, felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over her, making her feel uneasy. Looking at the approaching ships in the distance, her eyes lost some of their anticipation.
No, he shouldn't be like that.
Thirty sailing ships approached from afar, and soon Jon's fleet arrived at the Night's Watch's newly built Milkwater Port.
When Jon stepped off the ship, almost no one dared to recognize him.
"That must be the Valyrian steel armor!"
Suddenly a voice spoke up; it was Jon's good friend from when he was still Night's Watch.
The Night's Watch was well aware of Jon's pursuit of Euron and his acquisition of the legendary Valyrian steel armor.
All the families of the Seven Kingdoms took pride in owning Valyrian steel sword, but none dared to dream of obtaining a suit of Valyrian armor.
Jon Snow had his armor covered in white porcelain and was dressed in a black cloak.
The cloak bears three House Targaryen crests, one large and two small, located in the center and on the shoulders.
Behind him followed Sandor and Sigorn, two bodyguards, each taller than the other, looking quite imposing.
Who would have thought that just over two years ago, he was merely a deserter fleeing from Castle Black?
In the blink of an eye, he became the King of Westeros, and the son of Prince Rhaegar.
What's most commendable is that he truly did as he said, heading south to better assist the Wall.
With so many supplies and soldiers, it's much better than him staying at the Wall.
Upon seeing Jon, Lord Commander Jeor Mormont stepped forward.
Welcome, Your Majesty.
Under his leadership, even the Night's Watch commanders, soldiers, and the elite Ranger had to submit.
Welcome, Your Majesty.
The greeting was delivered in a deep, resonant voice, so powerful it seemed to raise the temperature in the room.
Jon told everyone to stand up, and Jeor Mormont walked towards him carrying the sword box.
"Your Majesty, although you have left Castle Black and the Night's Watch, we know that you have never stopped thinking of your brothers in the Night's Watch since you left."
Jay's words drew a chorus of agreement from the others.
Jon first made an agreement with Varys in King's Landing, sending a batch of supplies worth tens of thousands of Gold Dragon. After taking control of Casterly Rock, he did not forget the Night's Watch on the Wall, and like Winterfell, he sent supplies to them every now and then.
Even if such a person leaves the Night's Watch, no one can say anything, especially since Jon still has national and personal grudges to avenge.
Some may continue to call him an illegitimate child, but no one calls him a deserter.
Jeor Mormont continued, "We've heard that Blackfyre, the Targaryen's ancestral sword, has fallen into the hands of that Young Griff. Please allow me to offer you one as well."
As he spoke, he opened the sword box, revealing a half-sword.
The water-ripple pattern on the blade clearly indicates that it is a Valyrian steel sword.
Leaving aside the House Stark's Ice, the Lannister once also possessed a Bright-Roar.
Unfortunately, Tywin's brother Gerion, along with Bright-Roar, set off to explore Valyria, but they were never heard from again.
Lannister's Valyrian steel Bright-Roar, was also lost.
Without the Valyrian steel as a symbol of his status, Tywin felt uneasy and thought Bear Island was too poor. He offered to buy it from Jeor Mormont, who was still the Earl of Bear Island, but was refused.
Jon didn't stand on ceremony when he saw the sword. He picked it up, drew it from its sheath, and twirled it a few times.
Sandor, of course, readily applauded and cheered.
The Valyrian steel is light and tough, requiring no maintenance or sharpening whatsoever. No matter how much you use it, it will never become dull or chipped.
It can be said to be the divine weapon in the hearts of every swordsman. For example, Sandor, who is by Jon's side, dreams of owning a Valyrian steel sword and is now almost drooling.
"Your Majesty, let's give this sword a name," suggested Jeor Mormont.
"Please choose a name, Your Majesty."
"Let's choose a name even more majestic than Blackfyre!"
The soldiers and officials all made suggestions.
Jon looked at the one-and-a-half-sword in his hand. The original Jon had named this one-and-a-half-sword Longclaw. If he were still a Night's Watch, the name would be quite good. But now, continuing to use Longclaw seemed a bit out of character for him.
He thought for a moment, then looked at the expectant faces around him, before turning to the rippled Valyrian steel in his hand and saying, "Let's call it [Nightbreaker], to pierce the Long Night!"
After the "presentation of troops" ceremony, Jon and his party naturally had to stay at Castle Black.
At that moment, Jorah naturally appeared.
He came to stand before Jeor Mormont, and when Geo saw the features of his son in that no-longer-young face, his whole body trembled with excitement.
Unsurprisingly, after recovering from the excitement of reuniting with his son, Jeor Mormont did the same thing as his sister.
He drew his sword and chased after his son, hacking at him.
The north wind howled, and Jorah the bear ran ahead, while Commander Mormont chased after him, sword in hand. Those who knew them knew they were father and son, but those who didn't would have thought they were enemies.
Jon was happy to let the old bear "teach Jorah a lesson" for someone as lustful as Jorah.
As an old man from the North, Jeor Mormont also possessed a considerable spirit of sacrifice, but what broke his spirit the most was the disappointment of his juniors.
The thought of Jorah committing crimes to satisfy his wife's extravagant lifestyle infuriated him.
Although Jeor Mormont, as Commander-in-Chief, had a rather bad temper, no one had ever seen him like this before.
The old commander, Daenys, was even frightened by his old buddy's outburst, as if he had seen an angry bear.
Jeor Mormont chased after his mentally challenged son, his eyebrows almost standing on end and his eyes practically spitting fire.
Jorah, who had already been beaten, knew he was in for another ordeal, but he never expected his father to be so enraged.
"Your Majesty, Jorah has returned to Westeros without permission. Please allow him to remain at the Wall to serve."
"No, Father, I now pledge my allegiance to Queen Daenerys the Dragon, wait for me—"
"Don't I look like Daenerys? Daenerys!"
The commander-in-chief, being an elderly man, still remembered the name.
In the end, Jon intervened, and after some persuasion, the group returned to Castle Black.
On the way, Jon explained his plans in detail to the Night's Watch commander and the Ranger.
"I intend to send in an army to try and capture the Wights and White Walkers. We are not only fighting for Westeros and the Seven Kingdoms, but now we are the bulwark of the entire world. Those greedy slave owners should pay the price."
After hearing Jon's plan, everyone agreed with it and was impressed by Jon's quick thinking.
"Yes! That would be perfect. I've heard that those Free Cities are incredibly wealthy, especially Braavos, where they can launch a sailboat in a single day!"
"And then there's Pentos, where the governor soaks in the hot springs every day."
The Night's Watch and soldiers all expressed their opinions, agreeing that obtaining resources from the Free Cities would be the best possible outcome.
After understanding Jon's purpose in coming, the group began to talk about Benjen.
Benjen disappeared before Jon left the Wall.
The Ranger who left with him turned into White Walkers.
The Commander-in-Chief told Jon that there had still been no news about Benjen after more than a year.
Considering that Benjen was also Jon's uncle, the others were unsure what to say, so Jon himself changed the subject.
"By the way, after I left the Wall, have you ever eliminated any White Walkers?"
"Without Your Majesty, the White Walkers and Wights have only recently become active again," Mormont explained. "I originally planned to launch an expedition to see what was going on further afield, but I didn't have the right men, and then came the Wildlings invasion—"
"Lord Mormont, we are not Wildlings, we are Free Folk, we were, and we are His Majesty's subjects," Sigorn, standing beside Jon, couldn't help but speak up.
"Are you Thenns?" the commander-in-chief asked.
"Yes, I am now a member of the House Thenn," Sigorn said proudly.
Jeor Mormont wasn't one to be irreconcilably opposed to the Wildlings; he knew they were forced to migrate south by the White Walkers.
Especially after playing a significant role in the battle between Jon and Stannis, he also expressed his apologies.
Returning to the expedition, Jon, the original Jon, played a crucial role in the expedition initiated by Jeor Mormont. However, Jon left the Night's Watch and went south, thus ending the expedition.
Later, thanks to Jon's efforts, the War of the Five Kings ended early, and Robb led the Northern Army to intercept the Free Folk.
"Lately—it seems to be because of winter," Jon pondered. "It's alright, Commander Mormont. Please make the arrangements. Our mission this time is to capture at least one hundred Wights, and White Walkers would be even better."
The most important reason for capturing so many Wights is to take into account the potential losses.
Slaver's Bay needs a batch, Oldtown needs a batch, Highgarden needs a batch, and the Vale needs a batch as well.
Braavos, Pentos, the Three Daughters Kingdoms —let the whole world see how terrifying this monster is!
