Reviving the Beheaded
Perhaps because he had already died once, Beric Dondarrion was very open-minded and didn't hide anything from Jon when they talked. He spoke his mind completely.
Jon gave Martin a look, signaling him to stand guard outside to prevent anyone from suddenly barging in.
Jon's actions made the atmosphere in the room much more serious, and even Thoros slowed his breathing.
Preventing Robb from becoming king can be seen as Jon laying the groundwork for his "switching sides," and preventing the North from becoming independent was also a perfectly correct choice, though few could understand it.
It seems that Earl Beric Dondarrion has a good political sense and may be able to help me in the upcoming actions.
"Jon, I estimate it won't be long before Stannis takes Storm's End."
"By then, he will have united all the nobles of Stormlands, and with the most powerful navy in Westeros at his disposal, taking King's King's Landing will not be difficult. I would like to know your opinion, and what your next step is?" Beric Dondarrion's gaze was piercing, as if he wanted to see right through Jon.
Jon knew he was being tested, so he decided to tell him his plans honestly. He stood up and said, "Although Renly is dead, his ally Tyrell is still powerful and well-equipped. With the Seven Kingdoms at war, Highgarden will not let this opportunity pass. I think they are very likely to form an alliance with the Lannister!"
Thoros was also taken aback by Jon's insight, as this was the result of his and Beric Dondarrion's private deductions.
"That's what I was worried about too." Beric Dondarrion looked intently at Jon, as if he were glad he had made the choice.
Jon continued, "If Stannis's attack on King's Landing fails, and the Lannister form an alliance with the Tyrell, then the situation in the Seven Kingdoms will turn against us."
Although Stannis currently has a high probability of taking King's Landing, the consequences of his defeat would be unimaginable!
"That's right!" Beric Dondarrion nodded, reiterating his agreement. "If Stannis fails, not only will our so-called allies turn traitors, but even among our own people, there will be betrayals!"
"Roose Bolton!"*3
Everyone said the name in unison.
Their eyes met with a newfound appreciation, like lone wolves finding their pack.
This is not to say that Roose Bolton was necessarily bad, but rather that if the Stark rule in the North were to be overthrown, the House Bolton was the only suitable candidate.
As for the other families, they are either blood relatives like the Karstark House Umber and House Manderly.
Or perhaps they are simply not qualified at all.
Finally, all the analysis boils down to one sentence:
Jon! What are you planning to do?
Although they had only met recently, Jon knew that the Brotherhood Without Banners had been resisting and harassing Tywin's army, and therefore he approved of their character.
It seems that everyone's goals are aligned.
Jon already knows that Stannis has seized Storm's End and consolidated Stormlands with astonishing speed, leaving him little time to maneuver, and that he may need their help in the future.
He pondered for a moment before speaking, "I plan to launch a coup, seize military power from Roose Bolton, and lead a large army to attack King's Landing!"
Neither Beric Dondarrion nor Thoros expected Jon's plan to be so audacious.
They both gasped and sat up straight, then looked at each other.
They had assumed Jon would only bring his own troops to King's Landing.
But upon closer reflection, it makes sense.
Five thousand people may seem like a lot, but their destination is King's Landing, which has a population of over half a million.
Compared to that, five thousand people seem rather insignificant.
"But Jon, mutiny is a capital offense. What will you do if Robb punishes you?" Beric Dondarrion asked anxiously.
"I am a deserter from the Wall, and all I seek is revenge for my father, Lord Eddard. As for my own life or death, I care not," Jon said calmly.
Upon hearing his words, Beric Dondarrion and the other man were filled with respect and no longer regarded Jon as a child who had just come of age.
"So what do you plan to do? Or is there anything we can help you with?" Beric Dondarrion asked.
"Yes, Jon, just say it."
Seeing that he could finally strike up a conversation with Thoros, Jon paused for a moment before speaking, "Sir Thoros, you seem to be a follower of the Lord of Light?"
"That's right." The mention of the Lord of Light roused Thoros, his eyes becoming clear and devout. "The night is long, the road is muddy, only the Lord of Light's guidance can lead us to the other side of Dawn. So Jon, are you interested in the Lord of Light?"
Indeed, good believers never miss an opportunity to spread their faith.
"Well, sort of," Jon said. "I actually heard it on the Wall that you followers of the Lord of Light seem to all know magic."
Although I've already figured out how to deal with Roose Bolton, if you have any better ideas, we can try them too.
Jon couldn't directly say that he wanted to know how to create a "Shadow Assassin," he could only hint at it indirectly.
At this moment, Beric Dondarrion spoke again, "Thoros can predict the future through fire, and... actually, I was already dead; he resurrected me."
"Resurrection..." Jon feigned surprise to gain their trust, then paused before asking, "Can a person who has been beheaded be resurrected?"
"I'm sorry, Jon, it's impossible," Thoros said apologetically. "I cannot resurrect everyone. I think my ability to resurrect Lord Beric was the will of the Lord of Light; he must still bear the Lord of Light's mission. For example, I was unable to resurrect Ser Raymun."
Jon nodded, a hint of regret on his face.
Beric Dondarrion and Thoros understood why Jon had asked that question; it seemed he truly was a "son who loves his father."
The two have decided that approaching Jon was absolutely the right choice.
Jon also figured out Thoros's true strength; it seemed the Lightning Lord's mastery of magic was still very limited, and he couldn't be of much help.
He probably couldn't master such a high-level spell as Shadow Assassin.
At this moment, Beric Dondarrion suddenly seemed to remember something and said, "Oh right, we met a little boy before who asked a similar question, asking me to resurrect a person whose head had been cut off. Oh! That's right!" Beric Dondarrion drew a small sword from his waist and placed it on the table.
This small sword is shorter than an adult's arm, shorter than a one-handed sword, and the blade is very thin, less than two fingers wide.
"That little boy wants to see you again, saying that you'll know who he is as soon as you see this thing."
Jon stared at the small sword on the table, his pupils contracting.
This small sword was crafted by a master craftsman in Winterfell at his request; its name is "Needle".
PS:
Arya is about to appear. In the original story, Arya was attacked by Amory, but the protagonist has already captured Amory at the the Green Fork, so it makes sense for Arya to appear earlier.
Furthermore, without this incident, Jaqen H'ghar Faceless Men might have been able to reach the Iron Islands sooner to assassinate King Balon, creating a chain reaction.
Regarding the issue of book listing, based on my experience, the initial subscription for this book is only a little over a hundred, which is extremely low.
But I have a few reasons why I can't not write them.
First of all, when I'm not writing, my whole life is chaotic, and I feel empty inside. This feeling is similar to being heartbroken; in short, it's very painful.
Secondly, although I didn't achieve great success writing Game of Thrones, I developed an emotional connection to it. Finishing it fulfilled my wish, allowing me to approach the next genre with a more relaxed mindset.
Fourth, I broke my beloved Fiji cup yesterday and need to buy a new one.
In summary... based on the above five points, I'd like to ask for your first subscription.
