Myrcella, So Pitiful

Hearing the shouts of battle outside the city walls, Earl Gyles of Rosby didn't even have the courage to leave his room.

He is really too old.

His body was as thin as a stick, and his hair had long since fallen out. Dark brown age spots covered his bald head.

He was like a piece of moldy, dried-out bread.

Just as Beric Dondarrion said, there's no way to escape.

"My lord, let's hand over Tommen and Myrcella. That North said that as long as we have those two Lannister, everyone else will be fine."

"But, but Cersei trusts us so much—" Although he was almost ready to accept the invaders' terms, Rosby's conscience and will to survive were still battling.

"My lord, it's come to this point. Even if Stannis comes, they're all going to die anyway." The one advising from the side was Earl Rosby's second wife.

She's only forty years old; she doesn't want to die.

In the end, the old Earl agreed; at this point, it seemed that the only way to survive was to hand over Myrcella and her brother.

With the help of his attendants, Gyles put on the armor he wore in his youth, but unfortunately it no longer fit him.

At first glance, it looks like a huge tortoise shell covering its body.

Not only did it not fit, it was even a bit ridiculous.

Haken, standing beside Jon, let out an undisguised sneer.

Jon didn't find the siege particularly difficult.

Even if Gyles doesn't surrender, he will be able to capture this castle, the closest to King's Landing, in about half an hour.

Jon's clothes weren't even dusty, except for a little bit of sweat on his forehead.

He approached Gyles and reassured him, "Sir Gyles, you have fulfilled your mission, and I will explain this to His Majesty Stannis."

For those who surrender, showing them some decency at this point is tantamount to making a promise, preventing them from having any other thoughts.

Although Gyles is very old, he is surrounded by young people.

I mustn't get carried away and do anything outrageous.

For example, Gyles ' wife is already in her forties or fifties, and even if she were as beautiful as a fourteen or fifteen-year-old, Jon wouldn't be able to have any interest in her.

Otherwise, they will likely pay a heavy price.

Jon's words reassured Gyles considerably.

Yes, I've done my duty. What more can you, the Lannister, expect from an old man?

"Sir, you're from the North, aren't you? May I ask where you're from?"

"Eddard Stark is my father, and I've come to avenge him."

Gyles was startled and stared intently at Jon, noticing that his grey eyes and long face made him look exactly like Eddard.

"So it's Robb."

Jon didn't bother explaining anything to him and simply said he wanted to see Tommen and Myrcella.

"Don't be afraid, Tommen. There are only some bandits here at most; they can't break into the castle."

Myrcella, who was not yet ten years old, comforted her chubby little brother in her arms.

But young Tommen was not satisfied. He curled up into a little ball and tried to burrow into his sister's arms.

Little did she know that her older sister was also trembling with fear; she was actually about the same age as Arya.

Like her mother Cersei, Myrcella had blonde hair and a fair, delicate face.

But at this moment, her face was completely bloodless. She looked like an extremely fragile porcelain doll.

Gradually, the sounds of fighting outside faded away.

Myrcella wanted to get up and look out the window to see what was happening, but little Tommen held his sister tightly, preventing her from going anywhere.

Myrcella's heart pounded, and her cheeks trembled involuntarily.

With a creak, the door opened. But the person who entered was neither the familiar maid who had cared for the siblings, nor the kind-faced knight.

The man opened the door but didn't come in; instead, he immediately left.

Myrcella heard only one sentence that plunged her into an icy abyss. "My lady, they're inside."

Myrcella straightened her back and hugged her chubby little brother tightly.

Tommen quietly turned his head and saw only a group of strangers covered in blood.

Although those people didn't say a word, Tommen quickly turned his head away.

Myrcella realized that these people were definitely not good people.

She suddenly remembered the terrible legends she had heard at the Red Keep.

When her maternal grandfather Lord Tywin, stormed the Red Keep, the lord known as Gregor killed Elia and her two children.

They happen to be siblings.

That woman was stabbed many times.

As for the younger brother, he was killed when Gregor slammed him against the wall!

Myrcella felt as if her entire body was frozen, as if ice crystals were flowing through her veins.

She buried her face in Tommen's body, Tears streaming down her face.

"My lord, we'd better kill them now, so we won't have to worry about the Tyrell and Lannister continuing their alliance." Myrcella trembled as she heard someone advising the so-called lord, and her chubby little brother in her arms burst into tears.

"No way, are all of you this cruel? You even kill children?"

Then Myrcella heard a dissenting voice, which gave her a glimmer of hope.

But his next words chilled Myrcella the bone. The somewhat gruff voice spoke again, "Girls can be raised to bear children, and boys can be trained as slaves."

It was Haken who spoke, but Jon ignored his suggestion and instead stared intently at the brother and sister in front of him.

Logically, my best option right now is to kill them.

This way, future troubles will be eliminated forever.

But Jon remembered that when he first returned to Winterfell to work as Robb's henchman, no knights were willing to follow him in battle.

If Stannis killed Myrcella brother himself, he would certainly feel relieved, but morally he would become the next the Mountain.

This was unacceptable to Jon, who aspired to become a regional lord.

Besides, if he killed them, Stannis would benefit while he himself would suffer. Why do something so thankless and exhausting?

Seeing Jon hesitate, Monde, remembering how Jon had saved the House Darry bloodline and avenged Raymun Darry, spoke up, "My lord, if you can't bring yourself to do it, let me do it."

Myrcella heard Monde's words, she lowered her head even further, as if that would make her disappear on the spot.

Finally, she mustered her courage and looked up, saying, "I beg you, please don't kill me, please! I'm the older sister, please kill me and let my brother go, okay?"

Everyone was moved to see that Myrcella, at such a young age, knew how to plead for her younger brother.

Especially with his pitiful, porcelain doll-like appearance, even Monde, who had initially vowed to kill Jon and take the blame for him, felt a pang of pity.

Jon remembers that when Robert took them to Winterfell, Myrcella and Robb were eyeing each other.

Jon ignored Myrcella's pleas for mercy and turned to Monde, saying, "What are you saying? In this situation, what difference does it make whether you kill them or I kill them?"

Jon's coup at Harrenhal marked the beginning of the House Darry's involvement; whether they acted on their own or Monde's orders was no different.

Jon knew perfectly well that if he didn't want to become the Mountain, the best course of action was to hand them both over to Stannis intact.

So he walked up to Myrcella and said, "Your Highness, I am Eddard Stark's son. You should know that my father was killed by your brother Joffrey. If you follow me obediently, I will only kill Joffrey and not you. Do you understand?"
