Nature

Fortune is a tangible yet elusive tendency created through the interaction of People's Wishes with heaven and earth. It reflects the momentum, prospects, and circumstances surrounding individuals, factions, lands, and dynasties. It can be perceived and, under exceptional conditions, influenced through divine powers or cultivation methods. 460

Fortune is generally an outward result rather than the cause of a person's path. A person's choices, abilities, environment, Karma, and relationships shape the Fortune that manifests around them; directly interfering with another's Fortune therefore amounts to reversing a vast chain of causes and effects. 521

People's Wishes and Human Hearts

People's Wishes can change Fortune. The allegiance, trust, fear, and judgment of large groups can shift Fortune between rival sides, as seen in the contest between Qiu Yan and the Heavenly Spirits and Earthly Fiends Stronghold. 460 1136

A bearer who loses public support may suffer a collapse of Fortune, even if they retain formations, troops, or other external means of preservation. 1141

Accomplishment and Influence

Ordinary people accumulate Fortune by accomplishing things. The broader and more consequential the achievement, the greater the Fortune it can condense. 1136

Dynasties and Dragon Qi

Dynastic Fortune is tied to Dragon Qi, official qi, ritual legitimacy, territorial control, and the Human Path. A unified dynasty can grant limited Fortune to cultivators in exchange for their protection of the Central Plains. 694

Imperial ceremonies can redistribute Fortune on a vast scale. The Court Announcement Ceremony sent Dragon Qi and Fortune into the bodies of the newly named presented scholars, changing their destinies. 575

A formally invested deity may become closely bound to a dynasty's Fortune without entirely sharing its fate. Even if the dynasty falls, such a deity may endure if its successor recognizes the prior dynasty's legitimacy. 872

Capacity

Fortune must be borne by a suitable vessel. A person's capacity—expressed through reputation, strategy, wisdom, authority, timing, and ability to employ talent—determines whether they can hold their Fortune without suffering backlash. 1141

Rise and Decline

Fortune rises and wanes with momentum. Lü Liang's Fortune reached its peak after he drew upon the full power of the Netherworld Domain of Law, but this peak also marked the beginning of decline, allowing Qiu Yan to reverse the situation. 460

Periods of war, dynastic change, and social upheaval are especially fertile for Fortune. Cultivators often enter the mortal world during such eras to follow, contest, or cultivate Fortune. 733

Flow and Convergence

Fortune naturally flows toward influential nodes, resembling water descending into low ground. In the Land of the Divine Remains, Fortune flowed from common people to the temple priest, then to Ni Lue, Ni Ya, and finally the regional duke. 1040

This circulation can be disrupted. Qiu Yan used the emotions and thoughts of countless living beings to throw the royal capital's Fortune into chaos and thwart an opposing faction's attempt to gather it. 1042

Division and Conflict

Multiple forces may each generate Fortune over the same territory. In Zhutuolan, native Fortune, Beyond-Heaven Mohist Fortune, and the Fortune of the Scale-Armored Tribe formed a three-way confrontation; their conflict weakened each stream but also increased the land's overall Fortune. 1330

Fortune may also be apportioned according to contribution. The Unified Will distributed Human Path Fortune to Qiu Yan, the Insight Eye Grand Mohist, Three Talents Fire, and a city lord based on their respective roles in advancing the Earth-Vein Communication Method. 1253
