"Someone at the hospital saw Dr. Pym being supported by two men. His whereabouts after that are unknown. I reviewed the hospital footage. They were very cautious and didn't leave much footage in front of the cameras. This is the clearest image."
Sharon had clearly already told Black Widow about it. This time, she was mainly explaining it to the other two. After speaking, she handed them a tablet. Hill had not fully recovered from the "Eastern Massage Technique," so Daisy had to take it herself.
The footage only showed three figures in one corner. Two tall men held someone between them as they hurried past the camera.
"Where did they go?" Daisy believed Black Widow had already found the target. If they had not needed to wait for the others to regroup, Old Doctor would probably have been rescued by now.
Black Widow indeed knew. She said gravely, "On a small island in Costa Rica. Local registration records list it as a long-abandoned biotechnology company. The company's name is strange—Egghead Inventions. Its original person in charge was Elihas Starr, a leading doctor of biology."
Daisy nodded again. These days, a villain without a doctoral title had no face to show.
"Elihas is known to the public as Dr. Egghead. He and Dr. Pym had clashed several times, and he once sent corporate spies to steal Old Doctor's technology. He is highly suspicious."
Seeing that no one objected, Black Widow led the team aboard a plane bound for Costa Rica to rescue Old Doctor.
The enemy operated an entire island, so security was bound to be tight. To rescue him, they had to infiltrate quietly.
They organized their equipment aboard the high-speed aircraft, checked their firearms, ammunition, and cold weapons, then set the aircraft to automatically return to the S.H.I.E.L.D. base. After that, Black Widow opened the hatch, and each of them jumped into the sea with a parachute pack on her back.
Daisy figured she could probably land without a parachute by using counter-vibrations to offset gravity. Still, she did not show off and obediently played paratrooper for once.
The Battle Suits were made of good material. After they emerged from the water, a few shakes restored them to normal. The group quietly came ashore. Looking at the tall, robust trees, the many plants several times larger than those outside, and the shrubbery as large as trees, the women all felt something was off. The plants here seemed much bigger than those elsewhere.
The surroundings were utterly silent. They walked through grass that reached their calves, like prey about to step into a trap.
Daisy looked at the small pistols in their hands and guessed their firepower would not be enough. She decisively pulled out the Rhino Revolver.
The violent weapon drew a round of sidelong glances, but their footsteps remained light, and no one spoke.
Black Widow put on a pair of thermal imaging glasses and scanned the surroundings. Suddenly, her expression changed drastically. "There's something huge! Evade!"
The attacker was incredibly fast. Almost as soon as Black Widow gave the warning, they heard a buzzing sound from above.
A gigantic hornet, three meters long with a wingspan of more than five meters and patterns covering its body, screamed through the air as it dove at them.
Hill rolled on the spot and fired two shots upward.
Her reaction could not be called slow, but the hornet was faster. It swept past them and flew high into the air, its pitch-black compound eyes fixed on them as it prepared for a second dive.
Hill's bullets had completely missed.
Seeing the steel-needle-like bristles on its limbs and torso, as well as the two-meter-long stinger, Daisy's scalp tingled. If that thing pierced someone, it would hurt like hell!
Hornets were terrifying enough already. Enlarged by so much, it looked even more intimidating.
Her Vibration powers could not lock onto a high-speed flying target, but fortunately, the gun in her hand packed enough firepower.
The hornet rose into the air, its compound eyes seeming to assess which of these prey would be easiest to attack.
It quickly selected its target and charged straight at Sharon Carter.
Daisy gripped her gun with both hands and aimed with full concentration. She waited for the instant when the hornet stalled during its attack and accelerated again.
She believed Sharon could dodge the blow, but Black Widow did not dare take the risk. From the side, she threw an electromagnetic patch at the hornet. The powerful current instantly stiffened its body.
Daisy no longer hesitated and decisively fired.
With a thunderous bang, a .357 Magnum round struck the hornet in the abdomen. Green, viscous blood and fragments of internal organs spilled all over the ground.
The hornet fell to the ground but did not die immediately. Several limbs still twitched. Daisy stepped in front of it and fired again at its compound eyes.
"Is it some kind of Mutated Creature?" Although S.H.I.E.L.D. did not issue diplomas, they had all studied biology. No matter how they looked at it, this giant hornet did not seem naturally grown.
"Not just a Mutated Creature. It's also being controlled through a monitor. Daisy, see if you can infiltrate it in reverse." Black Widow gave the order quickly.
Suppressing her nausea, Daisy went to remove the monitor from the hornet's leg.
The moment her hand touched it, the hornet's hind leg twitched slightly.
Bang! Bang! Hill and Sharon each fired two shots, while Black Widow also took out two objects resembling stun batons and jabbed it several times.
Removing a monitor from a hind leg covered in bristles was a first for Daisy. It was not dangerous, but it made her skin crawl. She pushed aside distracting thoughts and carefully began working.
The casing, wires, two signal receivers, and a pinhole camera were removed one by one.
She dismantled the monitor, connected it to her tablet, and used the other side's signal source to trace the connection backward. Before long, she entered their main computer.
"Uh, their headquarters is in the northwest part of the island. It looks like a valley. We got lucky—the fight just now wasn't discovered, and I erased the footage. But I don't know how long that will hold." She pointed in one direction, and the others hurriedly ran that way.
The area was filled with towering trees, as if they were trekking through a primeval jungle. They were all tough women, and no one complained of pain or exhaustion. After running for ten minutes, they encountered another enormous Rhinoceros Beetle. Looking at its sturdy shell, Daisy could not guarantee that her gun could penetrate it, so they had no choice but to detour.
They traveled light, so they were not slow. After moving through the jungle for an hour and a half, they finally discovered a three-story building in a valley in the northwest.
"Damn it! I hate Nick Fury!" Black Widow looked at the guards outside the building and could not help muttering a curse.
"I feel the same."
"Me too..."
"It's disgusting..."
The four female agents stopped in unison. Even if a hundred Elite soldiers had appeared to block their path, they would not have been moved. But the guards around the building were not human—they were insects. Several enormous insects.
The oversized hornet they had seen earlier, a twenty-meter-long centipede, a giant Poisonous Spider that covered ten square meters, and a caterpillar the size of a locomotive, green all over and covered in stiff bristles...
Even with a male soul as her foundation, Daisy still felt her whole body go numb. The three women beside her wore equally bitter expressions.
This mission clearly should have been assigned to male agents, like Hawkeye or Coulson!
