Ch. 21Negotiation

Daisy accepted fifty thousand dollars from Nick Fury and then met with her team to plan how to market their big data services. After the discussion exposed their lack of business connections, she had to look for another way to reach major corporations.

  • Nick Fury gave Daisy a bank card with fifty thousand dollars, insisting the money came from his own pocket, and drove away.
  • Daisy suspected Fury knew about her powers but decided against trying to kill him and used the money to ease her financial crisis.
  • James Wesley joined Daisy's team, which included David Lieberman and Miss Matsumoto, and Daisy transferred Fury's sponsorship into the company account.
  • Miss Matsumoto proposed approaching small and medium-sized businesses, while James argued they should target major corporations and startled the group by drawing a dagger.
  • Daisy asked James whether he had connections at major companies, but he admitted he had none, leaving her to consider another approach.

Ch. 22Going to S.H.I.E.L.D.

Daisy helped Skye Data Analysis Co., Ltd. win consulting work with a fluorescent-brochure campaign and rapid social-media analysis, building the company’s reputation. She then traveled to S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters on Theodore Roosevelt Island to begin learning there.

  • Daisy proposed distributing fluorescent brochures to make the company’s advertisements stand out at night, and the team divided up the preparations.
  • Daisy donated $10,000 to her church school and used the principal’s connections to speed up the brochure review process.
  • Skye Data Analysis Co., Ltd. used online posts to analyze a fast-food chain’s new meals, and the client paid the company $75,000 after its changes increased revenue.
  • The company completed two more consulting jobs, earning $50,000 and $65,000, while Daisy decided she needed to learn more at S.H.I.E.L.D.
  • Daisy drove to Washington, presented Fury’s magnetic card at the checkpoint, and crossed the bridge to Theodore Roosevelt Island.
  • Daisy followed the island’s paths to the towering Triskelion building, where she arrived alone.

Ch. 23Reporting In

  • Daisy weighed the demands of the available courses and signed up for all of them after confirming she would not have to pay tuition.
  • Sharon offered to help Daisy assess her shooting and combat skills, then took her to the underground shooting range.
  • Sharon hit ten bullseyes in a row, and Daisy matched her with ten bullseyes of her own.
  • Sharon challenged Daisy to shoot moving targets, and Daisy took down ten criminal targets without hitting any hostages.
  • Sharon realized Daisy was unusually skilled and suspected that her superiors had arranged for them to live together for a reason.

Ch. 25Agent May

Daisy and Sharon Carter mistook each other for undercover watchers, while Daisy's attempt to enjoy a meal led to a meeting with Melinda May. May tested Daisy's fighting ability and began teaching her more effective techniques.

  • Daisy and Sharon Carter finished sparring and returned to their rooms, each convinced the other was monitoring her.
  • Daisy ate a large meal in the cafeteria, where Melinda May approached and introduced herself.
  • Melinda told Daisy that Fury saw potential in her and invited her to the training room.
  • Daisy said she knew Karate, and Melinda challenged her to attack so she could assess her skills.

Ch. 26Academy Life Takes a Strange Turn

Daisy adjusted to life and demanding studies at S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy while befriending Sharon Carter and arranging for Leo Fitz to modify her revolver. Maria Hill and then Phil Coulson arrived at the academy, leaving Daisy unsettled by Coulson’s fervent lecture about S.H.I.E.L.D.

  • May trained Daisy for two hours, judged her learning ability passable, and left without promising further lessons.
  • Daisy and Sharon Carter gradually grew close as they studied, though Daisy discovered Sharon could not answer many of her questions.
  • Daisy asked Leo Fitz to modify her Chiappa Rhino revolver with a design inspired by Harley Quinn’s Love and Hate.
  • A month later, Sharon brought Daisy to see Maria Hill attending a tactical demonstration class at the academy.
  • Phil Coulson arrived as an instructor and passionately taught students about S.H.I.E.L.D.’s history and mission, unsettling Daisy.

Ch. 27The Trio

Daisy focused on practical training at S.H.I.E.L.D. academy, where her combat and technical skills impressed the instructors and brought her closer to Sharon and Maria Hill. The trio resisted Black Widow's lessons in seduction but continued learning other methods of infiltration and intelligence gathering.

  • Coulson taught the trainees S.H.I.E.L.D. history and showed them the Captain America Memorial Museum, while Sharon eagerly questioned him about Captain America.
  • Natasha Romanoff, Melinda May, Hawkeye Barton, and Jasper Sitwell taught the trainees combat, infiltration, weapons, and mission management.
  • Daisy excelled in practical training, impressing Hawkeye and outperforming the other trainees in combat, shooting, driving, and hacking.
  • Sharon and Daisy sparred, and Maria Hill gradually joined their conversations until the three became close friends who encouraged one another.
  • Daisy and Hill resisted Natasha's seduction exercise, while Sharon struggled to participate, so Natasha adjusted the lesson to focus on other infiltration and reconnaissance skills.

  • Daisy explained that her data analysis had identified a private hospital, a Hungarian bar, and a city park as likely places Dr. Pym had disappeared from.
  • Black Widow insisted they search Dr. Pym’s laboratory despite Daisy’s doubts about finding clues after ten days.
  • The Quinjet landed outside Budapest, where local intelligence personnel provided the team with two Chevrolets and relevant information.

Ch. 33Traveling Together

Daisy and Hill searched Dr. Pym's laboratory for clues, then split up to investigate the locations where he was known to go. They prepared disguises and headed to a bar in Budapest, leaving their investigation there about to begin.

  • Daisy, Black Widow, Hill, and Sharon searched Dr. Pym's laboratory but found no clues, so Black Widow narrowed their leads to a hospital, a bar, and Central Park.
  • Black Widow sent Sharon to the hospital, went to Central Park herself, and assigned Daisy and Hill to investigate the bar.
  • Daisy and Hill bought outfits at the mall, then searched the Old Doctor's spending records and recent police reports before dressing for the bar.
  • Daisy and Hill changed clothes together, discussed Daisy's Rhino Revolver, and linked arms to make their cover look convincing.
  • Daisy and Hill struggled to walk without matching each other's steps, then reached the bar and were relieved when its music drowned out their synchronized footsteps.

Ch. 34Strange Bar

Daisy and Hill investigated a Budapest bar for clues about Dr. Pym, then talked about their pasts while waiting for the crowd to settle. Daisy learned Hill was no longer Nick Fury’s aide and admitted she had joined S.H.I.E.L.D. partly to seek refuge from a woman who had tried to gouge out her eyes.

  • Daisy and Hill entered the women-filled bar, ordered drinks, and agreed to investigate separately, with Hill asking around and Daisy checking for hidden rooms.
  • Daisy found nothing useful in the bar’s computer system and searched the Budapest police network while several women approached her.
  • Hill returned and said staff had told her the bar was booked for a party, but she insisted they stay to look for regulars.
  • As the bar quieted for preparations, Daisy asked Hill about her work and learned she was no longer the Director’s aide, making Daisy worry that her knowledge of the future might be unreliable.
  • Daisy and Hill shared stories about their unhappy childhoods, and Hill said she had begun training at sixteen and rarely experienced ordinary life.
  • Daisy told Hill that a deranged old woman had tried to dig out her eyes, escaped after Daisy reported her to the NYPD, and was part of why Daisy had joined S.H.I.E.L.D. for refuge.

Ch. 35Fleeing in Disarray

Daisy and Hill investigated Madam Gao’s history before stumbling into a crowded celebration at the bar and escaping drenched in champagne. They returned to the hotel determined to keep the humiliating incident from their colleagues, where Daisy tore her outerwear while changing.

  • Daisy showed Hill records suggesting Madam Gao had been active for more than four hundred years and asked her to report any S.H.I.E.L.D. leads.
  • Daisy and Hill stayed at the bar for their mission as women gathered and celebrated, then realized the event was a same-sex wedding celebration.
  • Daisy and Hill tried to leave the packed bar, but Daisy was repeatedly soaked with champagne and Hill’s heel broke.
  • The two agents agreed not to meet their colleagues that night and ran back to the hotel in their ruined clothes.
  • Daisy entered her room and tore her outerwear in half while taking it off.

Ch. 36Eastern Massage Technique

Daisy and Hill spent the night at a small hotel after their investigation went awry, where Daisy secretly used her Vibration powers to heal Hill’s scars. The next morning, they reunited with Black Widow and learned that Sharon Carter had found a lead on Dr. Pym.

  • Daisy and Hill shared the cramped hotel bathroom, where Hill washed Daisy’s back and noticed she had no scars.
  • Daisy used her Vibration powers under the pretense of an Eastern massage, causing Hill an overwhelming sensation and removing a scar on her back.
  • Hill hurried out of the bathroom, and the two women slept through the night without further incident.
  • In the morning, Hill saw that her scar had vanished, and Daisy agreed to keep what happened private.
  • Daisy and Hill met Black Widow, gave her a false explanation for their absence, and heard that Sharon Carter had found a lead on Dr. Pym.

Ch. 37Setting Foot on the Island

Black Widow led Daisy, Sharon Carter, and Hill to a Costa Rican island to rescue Dr. Pym from Dr. Egghead’s biotechnology company. After tracing a monitoring device to the island headquarters, they reached a valley guarded by enormous insects.

  • Black Widow identified Dr. Egghead as the likely captor of Dr. Pym and led the agents to Costa Rica.
  • The team parachuted into the sea, came ashore, and encountered a giant hornet that attacked Sharon Carter.
  • Black Widow stunned the hornet, and Daisy killed it before removing its monitor and tracing its signal to the island headquarters.
  • The agents crossed the jungle, avoiding a giant rhinoceros beetle, and reached a three-story building in a valley.
  • Black Widow, Daisy, Sharon Carter, and Hill found the building guarded by enormous insects, including a giant centipede, spider, and caterpillar.

Ch. 38First Battle of Superpowers

Daisy, Hill, Black Widow, and Sharon launched an attack on the giant insects guarding the facility so Black Widow and Sharon could rescue the doctor. Daisy and Hill killed the centipede, while Daisy brought down the wasp and spider and then headed toward Hill.

  • Hill split the agents into a diversion team and a rescue team, with Daisy and Hill drawing the insects away while Black Widow and Sharon went to find the doctor.
  • Daisy’s first shots missed the giant spider and injured the wasp, drawing the giant insects toward her as she ran toward Hill’s traps.
  • Daisy lured the centipede into a pit rigged with grenades, and Hill finished it off with close-range shots.
  • Daisy used a shockwave to cripple the wasp and then dodged the spider’s leap and web attack.
  • Daisy shattered the air with a powerful blow, wounded the spider, finished it with a shot, and ran toward Hill.

Ch. 39Dr. Pym

Daisy, Hill, Black Widow, and Sharon fought through a swarm of giant insects and an attack by elite soldiers to reach Dr. Pym in the underground facility. After rescuing him, they split up: Daisy escorted Dr. Pym outside while Black Widow pursued the enemy and Hill and Sharon went to destroy the research data.

  • Daisy and Hill defeated giant insects outside the building, and Daisy suspected Dr. Pym's Pym Particles and genetic research had caused their mutation.
  • Daisy and Hill entered the building and joined Black Widow and Sharon, who were being forced back by heavily armed soldiers.
  • Daisy picked up an M16 and helped the four agents overpower and kill the attackers, though the soldiers had no identifying marks.
  • Black Widow blew open the coded door holding Dr. Pym, who insisted that the laboratory be destroyed and the thief who stole his results be pursued.
  • Black Widow ordered Daisy to escort Dr. Pym outside while she pursued the enemy and Hill and Sharon destroyed the research data.

Ch. 40Facing the Enemy

Daisy and Old Pym encountered the towering Egghead while fleeing the laboratory, and Daisy tried to learn how his enlarged body worked as they dodged his attacks. With support still absent, Daisy left Old Pym to escape and charged toward Egghead’s ankle to fight back.

  • Black Widow entered a secret passage alone while Hill and Sharon copied the laboratory’s data before destroying it.
  • Daisy led Old Pym away from the laboratory and detected a strange frequency approaching them.
  • Egghead, enlarged to over ten meters, appeared and attacked Old Pym, forcing Daisy to run with him.
  • Daisy shot Egghead in the head, but the bullet only pierced his skin before his fat stopped it.
  • Daisy pushed Old Pym out of the way of a falling rock and asked him about the effects of enlargement as Egghead pursued them.
  • Daisy told Old Pym to escape and charged at Egghead’s ankle.
