Elite agents were indeed formidable. No matter how uncomfortable she felt, and despite lacking a suitable weapon, Hill still took down the centipede. With her precise marksmanship, she also shot the most disgusting caterpillar half to death.
Daisy joined the fight, and the outcome was beyond doubt. The giant caterpillar was blasted apart, its juices splattering everywhere before it finally died.
Exhausted, Hill braced both hands on her knees and panted heavily.
She had no superpowers, and her weapon was nothing more than an ordinary Glock pistol. Against insects that large, she could only rely on speed to maneuver around them. Prolonged running and fighting severely tested both her mental and physical stamina. Besides, she had not rested properly at all last night, constantly thinking about the Eastern Massage Technique.
Burdened by such heavy psychological pressure, Hill had already shown how diligently she trained by managing one win and one draw.
With the Eastern Massage Technique serving as a bridge for communication, they acted like strangers in front of others, but when alone, things were somewhat different. They no longer stood on ceremony with each other.
"How did these things mutate? Do you know?" Hill asked Daisy as she recovered her strength.
"It was probably Dr. Pym's research. His Pym Particles can reduce the gaps between atoms, so by the same logic, they should be able to enlarge them too." Daisy answered based on her memories and her rudimentary knowledge of quantum physics.
"Still, this kind of thing wouldn't be so easy to create. It was probably the result of modifying special genes."
She remembered that the second Ant-Man in the future had the ability to grow larger, and so did the original in the comics. Quantum physics—or rather, quantum physics with Marvel characteristics—could barely explain it if applied to that theory.
"These scientists just can't stay put." Hill sounded somewhat displeased.
Daisy laughed. Scientists in this world were the source of all trouble. They caused trouble when they were poor, and they caused trouble after becoming wealthy. Whether it was disease, suffering, or disaster, as long as they still drew breath, they would come up with some major news.
Faint gunfire was already coming from inside the building. They hurriedly reloaded their weapons and ran over to provide support.
When they stormed the building, they found it had already become a battlefield. Corpses littered the ground. The enemies wore nothing that could identify them, but their weapons were standardized and they were well-trained. One look at Black Widow and Sharon, who were being forced back, was enough to tell that their opponents were the elite of the elite.
The enemy had superior numbers and all carried automatic weapons, giving them extremely powerful firepower. Black Widow and Sharon could only return fire with pistols. If not for their exceptional marksmanship, and Black Widow occasionally tossing out small gadgets, they would have been finished long ago despite their teamwork.
The two had to remain in motion to avoid being surrounded. Even so, the combat zone was rapidly shrinking, and the enemy had already entered close-combat range.
Blue electrical sparks flickered over her baton. Black Widow grabbed a burly man's gun and shoved it aside, then jabbed her baton into an unspeakable area. The man did not even groan. He curled up like a shrimp and passed out.
Daisy and Hill joined the battle at that moment. With their support, the line stabilized once again.
"Where's the doctor?" Hill asked while firing.
"The doctor is in the underground facility. Not only do we need to save him, we must destroy this research data as well. If it gets out, it will cause even greater unrest." Black Widow shouted an explanation to them.
Daisy suspected the technology had already leaked. These well-trained soldiers looked more and more like Hydra operatives. Aside from not wearing those distinctive yellow-green uniforms, everything else—their weapons, morale, and combat skills—was outstanding.
She figured that if she shouted "Hail Hydra," the enemies across from her would definitely respond loudly. But that would be difficult to explain afterward. She could hardly say she had guessed.
The four women opened fire bravely, and enemies fell one after another.
At first, Daisy worried she would not be able to adapt to such a dangerous battlefield. But after firing a few shots, she felt joy welling up from the depths of her heart. This body loved weaving through a hail of bullets. Not only did it not reject the experience, it was practically eager to try.
She could not understand why protagonists in movies only liked using little pistols, and never switched weapons no matter how intense the battle became.
Daisy picked up an M16 from the ground, pressed the stock against her shoulder, and fired controlled bursts from time to time. Countless sparks burst from the muzzle, shell casings scattered across the floor, and enemies dropped dead one after another.
Her mind remained calm, and she entered a better and better state. Her dynamic vision still could not see bullets, but she could see her opponents raising their guns and where they aimed. She always fired a step ahead of them. A difference of half a second determined life or death.
With her fierce suppression, Black Widow, Sharon, and Hill all rose to their feet. Some still used pistols, while others picked up enemy weapons. The four female agents suppressed the enemy from four directions.
Their shots never missed. Against this group of elite soldiers, they finally gained the upper hand.
As the enemy numbers dwindled, the pace of death accelerated. Yet these soldiers, who wore no organizational insignia, still fought to the death without retreating. None fled, and none surrendered.
The enemy was ultimately wiped out. The four checked the bodies, but found no markings whatsoever. The faces beneath their masks were unfamiliar, and there was no identification of any kind. More than a hundred people seemed to have appeared out of thin air.
Since they could not figure it out, they stopped thinking about it. They would report it when they returned and let Nick Fury worry about it.
Black Widow took the lead and headed inside, with Hill and Sharon following behind.
Seeing her three companions casually toss away their rifles, Daisy had originally wanted to collect some ammunition. Now she could only follow suit and throw hers away. In any case, she had the Rhino Revolver.
The four entered the underground facility looking empty-handed.
Dr. Pym was locked behind a coded door. Black Widow stuck a bomb to the lock, and with a thunderous boom, blew the door open.
This was Daisy's first time seeing Dr. Hank Pym. The old man had an impressive bearing, with graying hair, a few wrinkles on his face, and glasses. He looked refined and scholarly.
But the old man paid no attention to her at all, perhaps taking her for an ordinary passerby.
He was initially very wary, but relaxed once he saw Black Widow.
"This laboratory must be destroyed. That man stole my experimental results. Don't worry about me—go after him!" Once the old man realized they were not there to kill him, he immediately became arrogant and commanding. Anyone who did not know better might have thought he was the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Daisy could say that her first impression of the old man was not a good one. Perhaps he was simply happy to see rescuers, but to her, he seemed a little unhinged.
Black Widow ignored Old Doctor. In her eyes, the old man was merely a mission target. Whether he was tall, short, fat, thin, or how he treated her did not matter.
She gave the others their orders. "Daisy, take the doctor outside first. I'll pursue the enemy. Hill and Sharon, destroy the laboratory data."
She knew Daisy wanted to study under Dr. Pym, so she gave her a chance to make an impression. Daisy immediately accepted the kindness and pulled Dr. Pym toward the exit.
