Early morning, in the forest.
The morning glow streamed down, piercing through layer upon layer of leaves and shining into the woods.
A ragged youth walked through the forest, his face smeared with dirt, yet his eyes shone as brightly as stars.
"It's been a month. I finally mastered it!" Excitement gleamed in the youth's eyes. "It's time to return to the sect."
This youth was none other than Lin Xuan, who had gone out to train. After a month of brutal practice, he had finally mastered the first level of Thunder Movement Swordsmanship. His strength had undergone a qualitative leap compared to a month ago.
Lin Xuan unfurled his movement technique and sped forward. Before long, the imposing and magnificent mountain gate of the Profound Heaven Sect appeared before him.
First, I'll take a bath, change into clean clothes, then gorge myself! Lin Xuan had nearly gone mad over the past month. Now that he was back, he naturally had to relax.
"Stop! This is the gate of the Profound Heaven Sect. Outsiders are forbidden to proceed!" shouted the disciple guarding the gate.
Lin Xuan looked at his clothes. They really no longer resembled sect attire, so he could only take out his identity token to prove who he was.
"Senior Brother, I'm an outer sect disciple. I was merely cultivating outside."
Only after seeing Lin Xuan's identity token did the disciple let him pass. However, the look he gave Lin Xuan was clearly strange. He had guarded the mountain gate for quite some time, yet he had never seen anyone cultivate themselves into such a state.
Along the way, wherever Lin Xuan passed, he drew curious stares. His little face reddened, but it was covered by such a thick layer of dirt that no one could tell.
Yet when he returned to his residence, he sensed that something was wrong.
There seemed to be additional Divine Might Corps disciples patrolling nearby, and there also appeared to be people inside his little house.
Lin Xuan did not know that he had already been exposed, but seeing the situation, he guessed part of the truth. Running away now was unrealistic. He might as well be open about it; after all, they had not seen anything with their own eyes.
"Who allowed you into my place?!" Seeing that his door had been kicked to pieces, Lin Xuan's face immediately darkened.
"Damn, who the hell are you? You dare meddle in the Divine Might Corps' business?" the disciples inside shouted arrogantly. "Where did this beggar come from?"
Lin Xuan frowned slightly. "So what if you're the Divine Might Corps? This is my house! I'll give you three breaths to get the hell out!" He knew that the conflict between him and the Divine Might Corps could no longer be resolved, so he had no more reservations.
Hearing the commotion, the surrounding disciples immediately gathered around.
"Why is someone provoking the Divine Might Corps again? There have been a lot of blockheads lately!"
"No, he just said that was his house. He's Lin Xuan!"
"Lin Xuan!" Everyone widened their eyes and stared at this figure of legend.
"You're Lin Xuan? Damn it, we've waited a whole month for you. We finally caught you! Brothers, get him!" The Divine Might Corps disciples in the house had waited idly for nearly a month and had long been filled with pent-up rage. Now that they saw Lin Xuan, they wanted nothing more than to devour him alive.
Whoosh, whoosh!
Four disciples at the Fourth Level of Meridian Condensation rushed out and surrounded Lin Xuan.
"Attack!" Powerful spiritual energy erupted from the four of them as they were about to strike.
"Let's see who dares!" Lin Xuan let out a thunderous roar. He poured spiritual energy into his voice, and the sound exploded beside everyone like a clap of thunder.
The four were startled by Lin Xuan's bearing. His black hair fluttered in the wind as he stood proudly, an astonishing power faintly seeping from within him.
"You're at death's door and still trying to struggle. Our people will be here soon. Dare oppose the Divine Might Corps, and you can just wait for death!" These Divine Might Corps disciples were used to throwing their weight around. Naturally, they hated someone like Lin Xuan who dared challenge them.
Sure enough, before long, many Divine Might Corps disciples rushed over and quickly surrounded the area.
"Why waste words with him? Just take him down!" someone with a fiery temper roared directly.
Seeing the people around him itching to make a move, Lin Xuan suddenly pulled several sheets of paper from his robes and raised them high with one hand.
"Talismans! Get back!" someone cried out upon seeing Lin Xuan produce the papers. The entire crowd retreated half a meter, and no one dared get too close.
"Talismans my ass!" When they saw that what Lin Xuan held were not talismans, the Divine Might Corps disciples immediately flew into a rage.
"Hmph!" Lin Xuan sneered, and his aura grew even stronger. "These may not be talismans, but they are even more powerful than talismans!"
"What are those? High-grade talismans? Forbidden art runes?" Everyone was immensely curious.
A bunch of idiots! Lin Xuan cursed inwardly, then shouted, "These are the sect rules!"
"Have your brains been kicked by donkeys? You dare make a move inside the sect!" Lin Xuan gripped the booklet recording the sect rules and said, "Article Eight of the sect rules: Those who attack without cause within the sect shall, at minimum, receive thirty lashes from a spirit whip; at worst, they shall be expelled from the sect!"
Spirit-whip lashing was no ordinary punishment. It was carried out by the Outer Sect Enforcement Team. These people were all above the Fourth Level of Meridian Condensation, and they wielded specially made spirit whips. After thirty lashes from them, even if one did not die, one would be crippled.
Hearing Lin Xuan's rebuke, the Divine Might Corps disciples hesitated as well. Though they were usually arrogant and domineering, even if beaten to death, they would not dare openly violate the sect rules.
For a moment, the scene became awkward. The Divine Might Corps disciples could neither retreat nor attack. They could only stand around Lin Xuan and prevent him from escaping.
Seeing that he had bluffed everyone, Lin Xuan secretly sighed in relief. He walked into the little house, sat at the table, poured himself a cup of water, and drank it leisurely.
He was waiting—waiting for the person in charge of the Divine Might Corps to arrive. He had no one to rely on now, so he could only use the sect rules to frighten these people first. As long as they did not assassinate him, they should have no way to deal with him for the time being.
Sure enough, not long after, Yan Kong arrived with a group of disciples. After learning what had happened, his icy gaze fixed directly on Lin Xuan.
Lin Xuan knew the real master had arrived. He slowly walked out and watched Yan Kong warily.
"You are Lin Xuan?" Yan Kong's eyes were cold.
"That's right!" Lin Xuan said in a low voice.
"I heard you know the sect rules quite well. Then do you know what happens to someone who murders a fellow disciple?" Yan Kong suddenly demanded sharply.
"What are you talking about? I don't understand." Lin Xuan remained calm. "You'd better take your people and leave immediately!"
"Let me introduce you. This is Captain Hua of the Outer Sect Enforcement Team." A sinister smile curled across Yan Kong's lips.
Lin Xuan had long noticed several people in black standing beside Yan Kong. Two crossed golden swords were embroidered on their chests. He had not expected them to be members of the Outer Sect Enforcement Team.
Captain Hua stepped forward and said gravely, "Lin Xuan, we suspect you of murdering a fellow disciple. Come with us."
"Where is the evidence? Who saw it?" Lin Xuan had not expected even the Law Enforcement Team to favor the Divine Might Corps. He had already prepared for the worst.
"You needn't be nervous. This is only an investigation. If you did not kill anyone, we will let you go." Captain Hua wore an expression of perfect fairness.
"Men, take him away!" Captain Hua said coldly.
"Hold it! Without evidence, who dares arrest him?" a crisp female shout rang out.
Immediately afterward, a delicate and beautiful figure floated in.
"Tang Yu." Captain Hua frowned. He glanced at Yan Kong and found that the latter was frowning as well.
"Junior Sister Tang Yu, he is someone who murdered a fellow disciple. Don't cause trouble here." Yan Kong was not afraid of Tang Yu herself, but her older brother was a top-ten expert of the inner sect. That was what he truly feared.
"Hmph! Without evidence, you are not allowed to arrest anyone!" Tang Yu stood beside Lin Xuan and said angrily.
