Sakumo leads a Konoha group through the Land of Rain border, where he eliminates an attacking force—including a Jōnin—with a single blade before the younger members can intervene. When Feng Xun asks how he became so strong, Sakumo answers, “Purity,” explaining that an unwaveringly pure heart—whether in killing intent, kindness, or malice—can produce strength. 71

During the bounty-hunter ambush, Sakumo defeats Sato Takeshi despite the latter’s Earth Release defenses and attempt to bargain with intelligence about the attack’s mastermind. Sakumo kills him before he can finish, stating that the information is irrelevant to his mission, then returns to aid his endangered subordinates. 74

He later fights Kakuzu alongside Feng Xun and Minato. Although initially skeptical of Feng Xun’s intelligence, Sakumo trusts his explanation of Kakuzu’s five hearts and coordinates with the younger shinobi to ensure all of them are destroyed. 76 78
