Background

Concealed origins

Tang San's past is deliberately obscured by sealed memories. Yu Xiaogang tells him that his life on the Douluo Continent has repeated 999 times and that his memories will awaken once he reaches level 90. He further identifies Tang San as a celestial being of the Tang family and explains that the Clear Sky Sect exists to protect him. 200

Memories obtained from a soul wisp describe a different, broader history: Tang San was allegedly the son of the Mysterious Heaven Sect's master, searching the realms for the three scattered volumes of the Mysterious Heaven Scripture in order to restore the sect and dominate the Immortal Realm. The same memories claim he split his soul into innumerable fragments to establish forces across different planes, including Douluo Continent; Yu Xiaofeng questions whether this information is wholly genuine. 128

Tang San later confirms that he maintains a clone and intends to merge with it before retrieving the third volume of the Profound Heaven Skill from the time-space turbulence. 223

Early life on Douluo Continent

Yu Xiaogang introduces Tang San to Yu Xiaofeng as his new student at Nuoding Academy. Tang San addresses Yu Xiaofeng as “Brother Feng,” beginning a relationship that initially mixes familiarity, competition, and mutual curiosity. 15

After reaching level 10, Tang San absorbs a spirit ring in the Soul Hunting Forest. Yu Xiaofeng, concealed behind a Ghost Face Mask, ambushes him for a sparring match in order to test Tang Sect techniques. 16 Tang San fights with Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track, Blue Silver Grass, Dragon Subduing Crane Hand, and hidden weapons, but is heavily injured by Yu Xiaofeng's Eight Trigrams Palm before managing to poison him. 17 18

Personality

Tang San is composed under pressure and highly protective of his secrets. Even as a child, he reacts strongly when Yu Xiaofeng recognizes techniques that should be known only to a fellow Tang Sect practitioner. 17

He is tactical rather than reckless. When faced with Yu Xiaofeng and a black-robed elder, he withholds Parasitism rather than risk provoking an unknown powerhouse. 27 During the Soul Master Competition, he overcomes his hesitation and reveals the Clear Sky Hammer because he refuses to remain overshadowed by Yu Xiaofeng. 97
