Once everything was ready, Han Lin and Carter put on their combat suits and headed to the military airport.
Han Lin had never truly intended to let Howard go to the battlefield. He simply found it amusing to tease the wealthy tycoon.
There were also around a hundred newly enlisted recruits on the plane, along with supplies filling the entire cargo hold. The European battlefield had already grown tense, and every aircraft was a precious resource, which was why the military's flight was so crowded.
The captain leading them had clearly warned these recruits who had never seen blood, but every group always had a few troublemakers.
Theodore was a street thug. He had no family and technically did not need to enlist, but after seeing the beautiful love story between Captain America and the gorgeous agent, he had developed the desire to join the military. He wanted to become a hero too, surrounded by glory and beautiful women.
But reality was that, on the plane to the battlefield, he encountered a woman in a combat suit with a perfect figure and a steel faceplate, seated in a corner beside a man wearing the same standard-issue combat suit.
Having roamed the streets for years, Theodore had achieved better training results than the others during recruit training, making him even more smug. This sudden opportunity made him feel as though he had found his purpose for coming to camp: beautiful women. Judging by her figure alone, she was definitely a top-tier beauty.
Ignoring his captain's warning, Theodore walked up to Han Lin and Carter and said in a frivolous tone, "Beautiful, I'm Sergeant Theodore Cancun of the 159th Army Regiment. Interested in getting acquainted?"
Han Lin and Carter looked up at the tall Black young man. His sleazy tone made ignoring him seem like the best choice.
Neither of them spoke. They slowly lowered their heads and continued with what they were doing. Carter was oiling her two new guns, while Han Lin kept loading bullets into magazines.
Seeing the two of them ignore him together, Theodore let his thug-like nature show. "Wow... ignoring me? Who exactly are you, and why are you on our recruit plane?" As he spoke, he jabbed Han Lin's shoulder twice with the butt of his rifle.
Seeing this recruit she had not wanted to bother with pick a fight with Han Lin, Carter immediately tried to rise.
But Han Lin grabbed her and shook his head. "I'll handle this. I don't think Steve will mind if I stand up for his girlfriend."
With that, Han Lin stood up. Even after two enhancements, Han Lin was still a head shorter than the big Black man, but the aura he gave off was absolutely not something a street thug could withstand.
"If I were you, I'd go back to my seat right now and do nothing. That way, you might still get off this plane safely," Han Lin warned the big man.
Although Theodore was intimidated by Han Lin's presence, Han Lin's words still sent the hot-tempered little thug into a rage.
"Who the hell do you think you are?" As he spoke, he shoved the rifle butt toward Han Lin again.
Han Lin watched the scene with some amusement and directly gripped the rifle butt in his hand. Seeing his weapon caught, Theodore tried with all his strength to yank it back from Han Lin's grasp, but no matter what he did, he could not move it.
Unable to retrieve his rifle, Theodore grew vicious. He clenched his left hand into a fist and swung it at Han Lin's neck, since that was the only place not protected by connected steel armor.
Han Lin slowly raised his right arm and blocked the punch. The Adamantium plate on his arm guard met the other man's fist head-on, and the dull metallic clang made everyone in the cabin turn toward Han Lin.
"Motherfxxk, my hand! Ah..." Theodore cried out in pain. His hand trembled nonstop like a chicken claw, and he could not exert any strength at all. His fingers felt as if they had been broken, quickly becoming congested and swollen. Clutching his hand, he dropped to his knees. Han Lin still held the Garand rifle in his hand.
Han Lin was not the kind of person who gave others a chance to repent after being provoked. Pain was the best punishment for making someone remember their mistakes. So when he met the other man's punch, Han Lin had put some force into it. Otherwise, Theodore could not have been so badly injured.
Hearing the scream, the captain hurried over and looked at Theodore. "What happened?" he asked Han Lin and Carter in a vaguely interrogative tone.
Han Lin shrugged indifferently. "Nothing. I taught a blind pest a lesson. What, are you going to stand up for him? You ignored your soldier when he was causing trouble, but now that something happened, you come question me?"
Han Lin's words left the man speechless, but his mission as team leader was to bring everyone there safely. Theodore, the recruit with the best training results, was clearly in no condition to recover by tomorrow morning. If he arrived at the base like this, the captain would be reprimanded.
So he decided to pin all the blame on Han Lin and his companion, tossing aside the words of warning his senior had specifically given him before departure.
"I don't care who you are. From now until we arrive tomorrow, you are not permitted to make any unnecessary moves. Once we arrive tomorrow, you will need to explain to my superior why you injured my soldier."
Han Lin laughed at the blatant attempt to evade responsibility and said to Carter, "Carter, take off your faceplate and let them see who you are. And teach our recruit captain a lesson while you're at it. How does someone like this survive on a battlefield?"
Carter removed her faceplate and said to the captain, who began to look frightened the moment he saw her face, "Lieutenant Colonel Peggy Carter of the Strategic Scientific Reserve, member of the Howling Commandos. I need to know who your direct superior is. I will send his superior a telegram and report today's events truthfully."
"Wow, goddess..."
"Oh my God..."
Noisy exclamations erupted throughout the cabin. They had never expected to meet the woman of their dreams on their first day of enlistment. Theodore, meanwhile, wore a bitter expression as he sat on the ground, feeling that his future military career would be full of hardship.
The captain had never expected that casually leading a team would bring him face-to-face with someone so formidable. He immediately stood at attention and saluted. "I'm sorry, ma'am. It was my negligence that caused—"
Carter glared angrily at the captain, who looked like he was about to wet himself. It was not a huge matter, but he had allowed his subordinate to cause trouble, then immediately tried to shirk responsibility once things went wrong. That displeased the agent considerably.
"The 159th Army Recruit Regiment, is it? I'll have Major General Phillips speak with your regiment commander."
Carter's single sentence cast the captain before her into hell. Pale as a sheet, he sat on the ground, unable to move.
Han Lin, meanwhile, sat off to the side like he was watching a show. All he lacked was a bag of sunflower seeds and a bottle of soda to become a proper spectator.
As time passed, the plane swiftly crossed the Atlantic and entered the European theater.
When the plane landed and the transport cabin doors opened, they saw Captain America standing beside a military truck in the distance, clad in a tight uniform that showed off his full, muscular lines—and that famous American ass.
Han Lin figured that if he had a choice, he definitely would not ride in the same vehicle as them. But he had retired, and if he did not stick with them, the entire base might mistake him for a spy.
Han Lin and Carter walked over to Steve. Carter gave Steve a big hug, while Han Lin spread his arms in a gesture of embrace, then stubbornly stopped himself from hugging Steve's muscular body.
"Two muscular men hugging doesn't look right. Better not," Han Lin said. Hearing his jab, Steve gave Carter a look that said he was helpless too.
Steve asked, "What happened to that rookie on the plane? And the captain?"
Han Lin teased, "That weakling tried to harass your girlfriend, so I beat him badly. As for that captain, your girlfriend scared the shit out of him with two sentences. Buddy, your girlfriend is really hot. You need to be careful."
Han Lin's words made Steve frown, while Han Lin watched with interest as Steve debated whether he should go beat up that weakling again.
All the soldiers had disembarked from the plane. Seeing Steve in person, the scene once again became like a celebrity fan meeting.
Steve's sharp gaze fixed directly on two people in the formation, and his imposing presence swept over them, making the weaklings across from him lower their heads one after another.
Carter tugged at Steve, and the three got into the vehicle and drove away. Everyone in the recruit camp finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Han Lin shook his head and laughed. Bad teammates existed not only in games, but in real life too!
