Background / History
Master Tongtian founded Jiejiao around the principle of teaching without discrimination, offering all beings an opportunity to seek a thread of vitality within fixed heavenly fate. Its vast membership also leaves the sect deeply burdened by Karmic Force, making it vulnerable to the approaching Investiture of the Gods Tribulation. 1 2 9
When Xuan Chuan emerges from seclusion and urges him to disband Jiejiao to avert destruction, Tongtian initially views the proposal as treason against his life’s work. Enraged, he strikes Xuan Chuan with a Saint’s palm. Xuan Chuan’s survival, resolve, and willingness to stake his own fate on the sect’s salvation make Tongtian reconsider. 2 3
Rather than dissolve Jiejiao, Tongtian authorizes Xuan Chuan to reform it. He lends him the Purple Lightning Hammer, grants authority to investigate and punish corrupt disciples, and imposes a one-hundred-year deadline to produce results. 3
As Xuan Chuan exposes traitors, curbs Jiejiao’s Karmic Force, and identifies schemes by Chanjiao and the Western Teachings, Tongtian progressively shifts from guarded doubt to direct support. He grants the “Jie” Token, permits access to non-core sect resources and texts, and ultimately entrusts Xuan Chuan to handle major threats in Jiejiao’s name. 10 34
Appearance
Tongtian is an imposing Daoist whose presence naturally commands reverence even when he does not deliberately release his pressure. 2 9
- Wears azure Daoist robes. 2
- Often sits cross-legged on a cloud bed or cloud couch in Biyou Palace. 2 52
- Is surrounded by sword intent so profound that he seems to form a world unto himself. 2
- Keeps the Green Duckweed Sword at his side. 52
Personality
Tongtian is deeply attached to Jiejiao and fiercely protective of its lineage. Xuan Chuan’s call to disband the sect provokes overwhelming fury because Tongtian sees it as an attack on the foundation he created. 2
Despite his temper, he is not rigidly blind to evidence. Xuan Chuan’s survival, warnings, and reforms compel him to acknowledge the danger facing Jiejiao, though he continues to demand results and accountability. 3 10
He expects his disciples to grow through adversity rather than depend entirely on his protection. After saving Xuan Chuan from Winged Immortal, Tongtian instructs him to resolve the underlying conflict himself as a form of tempering. 28
Abilities & Skills
Saintly Sword Dao
Tongtian’s sword intent can sever the fundamental workings of the world. A phantom formed from a wisp of his intent cuts through space, time, spiritual energy, and laws while forcing Saint Zhunti’s incarnation to retreat. 34
- His sword intent is sufficient to counter a Saint’s incarnation through a phantom alone. 34
- He uses distant sword qi to drive away Primordial Heavenly Venerable’s killing intent targeting Golden Turtle Island. 52
- He can leave a wisp of Saintly sword intent within Xuan Chuan and the Fate-Cutting Sword for later activation. 34
Saintly Pressure and Authority
Tongtian’s mere presence and anger can shake Biyou Palace and overwhelm cultivators far below his realm. 2
- A casual palm strike gravely wounds Xuan Chuan, despite Xuan Chuan’s Peak Golden Immortal cultivation. 2 3
- He effortlessly disperses Winged Immortal’s embryonic Daluo Realm wind prison. 28
- His divine sense tacitly approves Long-Eared Dingguang Immortal’s execution, establishing the legitimacy of Xuan Chuan’s reforms. 15
Sect Leadership
Tongtian retains final authority over Jiejiao’s laws, treasures, and resources.
- Empowers Xuan Chuan to inspect disciples’ Karmic Force and enforce discipline through the Purple Lightning Hammer. 3
- Grants the “Jie” Token, allowing Xuan Chuan to access non-core treasury resources and the Scripture Repository’s non-core texts. 10
- Defends Jiejiao’s right to judge Qiu Shou Immortal according to sect rules when challenged by Saint Zhunti’s incarnation. 34
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Green Duckweed Sword — Tongtian’s sword, used to answer Saintly killing intent directed at Xuan Chuan. 52
