Background

Zhong Qing was a poor boy repeatedly rejected by the Qingshan Sect because he appeared to possess no cultivation talent. Despite hunger and hardship, he returned a gold coin he found to Yi Feng rather than keeping it. Moved by his honesty and determination, Yi Feng accepted him as his first disciple and gave him a high-quality saber 3.

Although Zhong Qing initially remained unable to enter a cultivation sect, he devoted himself to Yi Feng's training, practicing horse stances, punches, and household martial arts with unwavering diligence 4 69. He later confided that he sought cultivation to avenge himself against an enemy whose strength rivaled the Qingshan Sect's elders, sect master, and Old Ancestor 22.

An assassination attempt connected to the Pingjiang Chamber of Commerce left Zhong Qing severely injured and unconscious. Yi Feng searched the mountains for medicine, while Luolan Xue and the Baofeng Merchant Association attended to him during his recovery 88 94 147. His desire for power is rooted in revenge and protection rather than status. Even after gaining strength, he says that his goal in cultivating is to protect Yi Feng 331 634.
