Background / History

Qin Yi is the eldest legitimate son of the Qin Lineage, a powerful family with influence across Qi and Chu. Fragmented memories reveal that he was targeted in an assassination attempt as an infant and that his family’s situation was already desperate enough to leave even powerful retainers helpless. 20 21 43

After crossing into this world, he suffered from a recurring brain illness that left him unconscious or mentally impaired for long periods. During lucid intervals, however, he retained an unusually analytical mind, rapidly learning local languages, studying unfamiliar customs, and treating every crisis as a problem to be solved. 1 18

He found Ruan Su in the mountains and traveled south with her through the refugee tide. Qin Yi taught her practical survival skills, including trap construction, vital-point strikes, and methods to incapacitate or kill with minimal force. His early dependence on her protection led him to condition her obedience, though he later chose to release that control and help her cultivate independently. 16 21 22 23

Qin Yi’s cultivation began after he discovered and instinctively translated the ancient Disrupted Scripture. The text’s breathing method allowed him to perceive Spirit Resonance, while later contact with Meng Peijiu gave him access to the more complete Nine Songs art. 19 23 31

A crimson entity eventually manifested within the gap between his Spirit Realm and Soul Realm. Initially calling itself Yu, it was later identified as Junyang; Qin Yi calls it “Tuanzi.” Rather than submit to it, he studies its reactions, develops means to restrain it, and negotiates for knowledge on his own terms. 35 38 74

Appearance

Qin Yi is a handsome but slight boy of approximately eleven, initially burdened by a frail constitution and brain illness. By the time of his service alongside Su Jingsi, he is commonly seen carrying a longsword despite standing under one and a half meters tall. 1 31 54 70 78

  • Slender, child-sized build; initially lacks the strength to properly wield a heavy saber. 1
  • Has long hair and is often dressed in practical travel clothing or a fur cloak. 42 49
  • Later carries a three-foot-three longsword, though he finds its size disproportionate to his height. 54
  • Maintains a calm, noble-like bearing even while dressed in ragged clothes. 12

Personality

Qin Yi is coldly pragmatic, observant, and intensely analytical. He evaluates people by their usefulness, risks, and incentives rather than sentiment, whether he is interrogating a bandit, bargaining with a cultivator, or assessing the political structure of Immortal Guest House. 2 12 36

He is difficult to intimidate. Qin Yi remains composed under threats from nobles, cultivators, and the entity inside his skull, preferring to gather information and create contingencies rather than react emotionally. His willingness to lie, negotiate, provoke, or feign weakness makes him highly dangerous despite his age. 12 22 38 58

His attachment to Ruan Su gradually complicates this calculating outlook. Although he initially considers her value in purely practical terms, he risks his own life to save her during the Qi-Induction Ritual and later pursues revenge after her death. 24 25 51

Abilities & Skills

Analytical Intelligence and Strategy

Qin Yi processes information quickly and applies his observations to political, organizational, and combat problems.

  • Can identify weaknesses in organizations and design improved management frameworks for Immortal Guest House. 12
  • Deduces hidden motives from speech, body language, cultivation patterns, and power dynamics. 12 45 70 79
  • Treats cultivation as an experimental discipline, repeatedly testing techniques, Spirit Meridians, and the limits of his own body. 24 39
  • Instinctively translated the previously unknown script of the Disrupted Scripture. 18 19
  • Possesses exceptional arithmetic and calculation ability, attracting Yu You’an’s interest in training him in the Artisan Path. 77 78

Cultivation and Spirit Resonance Control

Qin Yi cultivates through the Disrupted Scripture and Nine Songs, using hand seals and breathing cycles to absorb, circulate, and release Spirit Resonance.

  • Can enter Cultivation Sight and perceive ambient Spirit Resonance as blue halos. 23 24
  • Can cultivate while moving and dividing his attention among other tasks, unlike ordinary cultivators who must meditate. 57
  • Stores Spirit Resonance in a Dantian formed from dense Spirit Meridian networks. 39
  • His intake efficiency is considered poor, and excessive Spirit Resonance can damage his Dantian’s branches and cause abdominal pain. 39 57
  • Tuanzi’s intervention and an Immortal Phoenix-brand Spirit-Gathering Formation forcibly expanded his Dantian after the battle with Fu Ming. 76

Resonance Threads and Ranged Techniques

Qin Yi can condense Spirit Resonance into external light spheres and threads under his control.

  • Formed a floating ball of Spirit Resonance after the Qi-Induction Ritual and used it to pull Ruan Su toward him. 27
  • Can use emitted light to trigger traps from a distance. 33
  • Creates Resonance Threads capable of piercing a wooden wall reinforced with rammed earth when accelerated through the Great Thoroughfare Seal. 39
  • His strongest short-term thread attack combines Nine Songs with Spirit Resonance Pulse, but leaves him dizzy, weak, and unable to continue fighting immediately. 39

Soul Techniques

Qin Yi has independently developed techniques that interfere with the Soul Realm.

  • Soul Shatter — A disruptive technique modified from Spirit Resonance Pulse. It can inflict severe spiritual disturbance, though Qin Yi warns that he cannot yet precisely control its strength. 73
  • Wisdom Seal Soulburst — A high-risk burst technique that Qin Yi believes could fatally wound a Path cultivator such as Fu Ming. Tuanzi advises that three bursts are near his safe limit. 49 57
  • His Soul Realm techniques are dangerous to test around Su Nuo because they may provoke the unknown power within her. 73

Proliferation Seal

The Proliferation Seal is Qin Yi’s developing method for restraining targets, including Tuanzi.

  • Can attach half-tamed Spirit Resonance to another person’s body or seep it inside them. 60
  • Allows Qin Yi to sense a target’s Spirit Meridian pulses and gives his techniques a degree of automatic tracking. 60
  • Accumulated seals can potentially cause an internal explosion. 60
  • Qin Yi attempts to plant seals on Hanging Mirror Bureau officials when they restrain him. 68
  • He views the seal as fulfillment of his promise to create a method that can restrain Tuanzi at all times. 60

Combat and Survival

Though physically weak in his early appearances, Qin Yi is an effective ambusher and battlefield planner.

  • Killed Sanniang with an iron shard concealed in his shoe, then escaped after eliminating Wang Ma. 1 2
  • Uses crossbows, traps, hidden weapons, terrain, and vital-point knowledge to compensate for his smaller body. 1 4 6
  • Personally killed Fu Ming after preparing an ambush with traps, secret arts, and his unique cultivation path. 51
  • Can assess the difference between internal martial artists and Path cultivators, identifying practical routes to kill stronger enemies. 49

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Longsword — A three-foot-three sword left behind with pills after the Panblood Spirit Jade disappeared; Qin Yi continues to carry a sword in later arcs. 54 70
  • Disrupted Scripture — Ancient text containing the Illumination Ascension Seal and a breathing method for Spirit Resonance cultivation. 19 23
  • Nine Songs — A more complete cultivation art whose techniques were hidden in poetic text; obtained through his transaction with Meng Peijiu. 30 31
  • Hand crossbow and courtyard traps — Early survival tools, improved with materials taken from Killing Apes. 1 6
  • Jade pendant / Panblood Spirit Jade — Qin Lineage heirloom that later develops crimson streaks before disappearing. 21 23 54

Relationships

  • Ruan Su — His adoptive older sister and earliest protector. Qin Yi found her in the mountains, trained her survival instincts, later helped her cultivate, and ultimately sought revenge after her death. 21 23 51
  • Tuanzi / Yu / Junyang — Crimson ancient entity inhabiting the space between Qin Yi’s Spirit Realm and Soul Realm. Their relationship is antagonistic but transactional: Qin Yi seeks its knowledge while preparing methods to restrain it. 36 38 60 74
  • Su Jingsi — Third Prince of Great Tang. Qin Yi initially considers becoming his subordinate, but instead pursues a more equal relationship of cooperation, mentorship, and mutual advantage. 59 70 72
  • Su Nuo — Princess of Great Tang and Qin Yi’s cultivation sparring partner. She is affectionate, impulsive, and unusually receptive to his requests. 2 60 73
  • Nie Junyue — Proprietor of Immortal Guest House and an early transactional ally. He recognizes Qin Yi as the Qin Lineage’s Eldest Young Master after the family’s arrival. 12 40 43
  • Yu You’an — Su Jingsi’s fiancée and a prospective Artisan Path teacher. Qin Yi recognizes that she sees him as a threat and has developed the intention to eliminate him. 77 79 80
  • Zou Qing — Escort Agency cultivator who travels with Qin Yi toward the Great Tang capital region. He shares cultivation knowledge with Qin Yi and receives a Spirit-Opening Pill in return. 54 56 57
