Background / History
Su Jingsi is the third prince of Great Tang and Su Nuo's elder brother. He meets Qin Yi at an earthen fort while investigating a possible connection between Qin Yi and the Qi-Chu Qin Clan's missing eldest legitimate son, Qin Ke. Although he initially tries to assert princely authority, Su Nuo repeatedly disrupts his formal manner of speaking. 59
He reveals that Great Tang faces multiple Disaster Realms, including the Corpse Calamity, and that the northern war conceals the scale of this catastrophe. He believes the state made preparations such as repairing roads, building forts, and stockpiling grain, but considers these measures inadequate against the spreading disasters. 59
During the Immortal Plague outbreak, Su Jingsi allows Qin Yi to take the lead in investigating aberrant mutation after recognizing his own lack of experience and shortage of capable personnel. He provides communications support, Soul Realm observations, and later written records of the mutation process. 64 65
After Qin Yi's coma and the completion of Wu Song's mutation, Su Jingsi becomes noticeably steadier. He provides Qin Yi with the experimental dossier on the Immortal Plague-bearer and shares intelligence concerning the Black Sun, Disaster Realms, Mao Ji, and the Unfettered Spirit Cult. 66 71 75
Su Jingsi increasingly treats Qin Yi as a collaborator rather than merely a subordinate. He supplies cultivation methods, medicinal pills, and reference works; follows Qin Yi's recommendations for investigating the Living Mountain Range; and allows the resulting plans to be carried out under his own authority. 70 72
Appearance
Su Jingsi is described as a handsome young man. He appears in formal dragon-patterned robes when first meeting Qin Yi, while later scenes depict him in plain white robes or white clothing. 59 61 64
- Wears a dragon-patterned robe in his initial audience with Qin Yi. 59
- Uses white robes during the Disaster Realm investigation. 61 64
- Returns from field operations bloodied and covered in mud, showing that he participates directly in dangerous situations. 70
Personality
Su Jingsi initially presents himself as dignified and authoritative, but his confidence is undermined by his inexperience, especially when facing the Disaster Realm and the Immortal Plague. He is sensitive about his competence and noble status, and struggles to acknowledge weakness before peers or those of comparable standing. 59 64 70
Despite these flaws, he is conscientious and capable of reflection. He recognizes that Qin Yi has repeatedly acted where he hesitated, accepts criticism of his leadership, and becomes willing to learn from someone younger and socially beneath him. 70 71
He is deeply burdened by Great Tang's suffering and sees public disaster as a responsibility of the imperial family. His emotions, particularly his attachment to Yu You'an and protectiveness toward Su Nuo, can affect his judgment. 59 70 76 80
