By the time Harry, Ron, and Hermione had waited for the Polyjuice Potion to wear off in that tiny, miserable bathroom, Kane was sitting on the sofa beside the common room fireplace, having a grand old time training Tom.

When the three of them finally returned, Kane put Tom away as though he had expected them all along. "Well? Was it Malfoy?"

"No. We didn't just ask Malfoy. We asked most of the Slytherins, including the first-years, and even indirectly sounded out some of the older students." Harry looked around, then lowered his voice after making sure no one was paying attention.

"We even think the Heir of Slytherin might not be in Slytherin at all. Think about it—if Gryffindor had a Heir of Gryffindor, would he be able to keep quiet about it?" As soon as Ron finished speaking, both Kane and Hermione shook their heads.

Obviously, while Ron's example was not entirely accurate, his point still made sense.

If Gryffindor had a Heir of Gryffindor going around killing people outside the common room, then even if that person kept his mouth shut, the Gryffindors would still have some suspicions.

They would not be like the Slytherins, who did not have even the slightest clue.

"Ah, that's normal. After all, no one ever said the Heir of Slytherin had to belong to Slytherin House."

Just as Kane finished speaking, a noisy commotion came from outside the door. It sounded like the first-years had returned from class.

Those little first-year brats were the worst. If they saw these cat people gathered here, they would definitely start getting handsy. Kane had better make a run for it.

More importantly, Tom Riddle's Diary was in his hands now. And who had Tom's previous owner been?

Ginny Weasley.
