Background / History

Ron first meets Kane at the Leaky Cauldron, where he witnesses Kane subdue Harry with inborn shadow magic. Rather than reporting him, Ron reacts with open amazement and expresses a desire to learn the magic himself, prompting immediate disapproval from his mother and brothers. 11

He accompanies Harry, Kane, and Hagrid through Diagon Alley to buy school supplies. Because the Weasley family is short on money, Ron uses his brother Charlie's old wand. He declines to let Harry pay for all of his purchases, buying his own supplies and treating Harry and Kane to ice cream with his remaining Knuts. 12 13
