"Dumbledore, Lupin... Harry, you still haven't left?" Kane entered Dumbledore's Office lightly equipped, wearing only a magician's top hat on his head. Inside, he found Harry discussing something with Dumbledore and Lupin sitting on the sofa, sipping hot chocolate.
Kane sat down beside him. Lupin instinctively felt that, as a werewolf, he ought to stay farther away from an ordinary, healthy, kind young wizard, so he wanted to shift aside.
But he was also afraid Kane might think he was rejecting him, or see him as insecure and hard to get along with. He froze there awkwardly, unable to move and unable not to.
Kane took the initiative to start a conversation. "Why haven't you finished that cup of hot chocolate yet?"
Lupin came back to himself and breathed a sigh of relief. "This is my third cup."
Kane nodded. Right, Mr. Werewolf who liked chocolate.
Meanwhile, Harry was still talking things over with Dumbledore. He even proposed using the Galleons in the Potter Family Vault to buy Dobby out of the Malfoy family.
However, Dumbledore still didn't think that was reliable. That house-elf named Dobby might be kind—perhaps it was kind—but that didn't mean it wasn't a masochist. For all they knew, it might currently be enjoying the Malfoy family's humiliation, beatings, and domination.
"Perhaps I can have it work for Hogwarts? Hogwarts won't mistreat house-elves. What I'd prefer is for it to make its own choice. If it needs someone to serve, it can serve Hogwarts. If it needs freedom, that's fine too," Harry suggested.
Before Dumbledore could speak, Kane, who was sitting on the sofa, began whispering to Lupin.
