Kane stared blankly at the elegant, ornate envelope slowly descending from the ceiling. Inside was an invitation to the Order of Merlin.
The problem was, his contribution had amounted to no more than killing a Basilisk. How had he received such a weighty honor?
When Kane brought up the question with his friends, Hermione shrugged. "It probably isn't that prestigious. Professor Lockhart is also a member of the Order of Merlin, isn't he? He has a Third Class medal."
Though Kane knew it was wrong to think this way, after hearing that answer...
He suddenly felt that the Order of Merlin was not all that impressive.
After all, even that old man Lockhart could get in. It was obvious how much water had been mixed into it. They might as well rename the Order of Merlin the Order of Geoduck. Either way, squeeze it and water came pouring out.
"By the way, Kane, you should open the envelope and see what class of medal it is. Anyone willing to scheme and maneuver can eventually get a Third Class medal. A Second Class medal means you've made a fairly major contribution to the Wizarding World."
Kane nodded. "I see. Then what about a First Class medal?"
"...First Class, huh? Those are actually divided..." Ron had just been about to explain that First Class medals were highly polarized—some required major contributions, while others only required enough money or the right connections. Just as he was preparing to give everyone an objective explanation, Kane pulled out his First Class medal envelope.
Ron fell silent for a second, then his emotional intelligence kicked in. "God!"
Hermione slowly waved over an older girl and ultimately obtained a bottle of alcoholic beverage with a proof below triple digits.
With that unnecessary little incident in the Great
