"How are we getting back?" Harry asked.
"If you want to crawl straight into my hat and return to the dormitory... though your outpost would be that big trunk I made." Kane was just about to take off his hat when Harry waved a hand. "I'd rather ride a broom."
With that, he pulled the Fire Ring from the pile of bedding he had packed up, and Lupin found himself in a difficult position again.
Riding with either of the young wizards would certainly be convenient, but humiliating.
If he rode his own broom, he would only end up getting utterly left behind by the two boys.
As for asking them to slow down and wait for him...
That was even more absurd. He had been their age once. He knew that whenever young wizards had any form of transportation they could control, they would squeeze every last bit of speed out of it without hesitation. Asking them to wait... difficult.
