Harry and Ron had woken up very early as well, even earlier than Kane. After all, today was the day they received Christmas presents.
"Haah... You're up early."
Kane yawned, greeted Harry and Ron, who were sitting around the Christmas tree, then walked over and sat directly on the floor.
Of the three of them, Ron had received the most gifts. They were practically a small mountain, nearly as much as Dudley usually got.
Kane and Harry, meanwhile, had received far less. Even their gifts combined could not match the little peak of Ron's gift mountain.
"It's fine, we're mates. What's mine is yours, so take whatever you like." Ron shifted over to sit between Kane and Harry, patting both their shoulders comfortingly.
"Ah, you're actually a pretty good guy." Kane raised his brows in admiration, then casually picked up a gift bearing his name. It looked like it had come from Hagrid. It was stuffed full of cowhair—apparently Hagrid had remembered Kane scraping cowhair first thing in the morning last time.
"What a strange gift." Ron scratched his head. If he did not know Hagrid's character, he would have assumed Hagrid was deliberately provoking Kane.
"Mm-hm. I can't use it right now, but Hagrid must have put some thought into it."
Kane set the cowhair aside, planning to find a tailor someday and have it made into a coat, scarf, or something similar.
Next came Dumbledore's gift. He knew Kane was spending Christmas break robbing tombs for gemstones, so he had contributed a little something: a gold ring set with a sapphire, packed inside a wool sock...
...Kane had discovered it when it poked his foot while he was putting on his socks.
He picked up the ring, rubbed it against Harry's robe, and put it back on. Hmm,
