Kane pushed open the door and walked in. He seemed to have developed a condition where seeing Professor McGonagall gave him a headache. Of course, it might also have been because his SAN had been low for too long.
"Kane Hiss, you only just left my office this morning." Professor McGonagall set down his quill, his face drawn tight.
"I'm sorry, Professor McGonagall." Kane sighed. "What is my detention assignment?"
Professor McGonagall looked up, drew his wand, and pointed at a shelf not far away. The shelf was glowing cooperatively, and it was covered with all sorts of bizarre things the older students had Transfigured.
"These are the advanced Transfiguration assignments I gave to the upper-year students. Use Finite Incantatem on them. Bring me the ones you successfully dispel; the ones you fail to dispel will count as having passed. Other than that, write a five-foot-long self-criticism."
Kane shrugged. "For some reason, this feels like a punishment that's going to offend a lot of people."
"It is not, Mr. Heath. If an advanced Transfiguration spell can be easily broken by a first-year using Finite Incantatem, that only proves they have not studied hard enough. While I cannot guarantee that every student at Hogwarts is sunny and kind, no one would take out their frustration on a stranger just because their own spell failed."
Kane nodded. "I hope so... I mean, hearing you say that puts me at ease." As he spoke, he pulled out his wand, casually took an exquisite stuffed doll from the shelf, and tapped it with his wand. The doll turned into an ordinary wooden nameplate.
