Thud, thud, thud...
"He sleeps like the dead." Kane helplessly had Ron stay put in the back while he leaned forward, unlocked the window with Alohomora, then used the Levitation Charm to float Harry off the bed. Finally, he used that little trick Snape had taught them in class.
He gave him a slight turn through a tiny arc, then shook him around.
Well, he still didn't wake up. They might as well just pull him out.
Kane used magic to lift Harry out and wedged him between his own back and Ron's chest. Once the two of them had secured him, Kane also lifted out the sleeping Hujin and Hedwig.
"All right, Kane, we should get going!" Ron urged.
"Hold on, there's one last step." Kane rummaged through his pocket, pulled out a piece of parchment he had prepared long ago, tossed it inside, then gripped the handle. The three of them, two birds, and one pumpkin shot off with a whoosh.
"What was that parchment for?" Ron suddenly asked from behind him.
"A letter telling them we'd taken Harry away. It'd be bad if they called the police over something like this," Kane shouted.
"Did you sign it?" Harry asked lazily, somehow having suddenly woken up.
"What kind of stupid question is that?" Kane shouted back. "Why would I sign something that's guaranteed to get me cursed out?"
The awakened Harry's mouth twitched unnaturally. It wasn't Kane's fault, nor was it Ron's. If he had to blame someone, he could only blame Hermione for not being a boy.
If Hermione had been a boy and come along too, she definitely would have noticed some bugs in Kane's plan. For example, taking him away under cover of darkness. The next day, the Dursleys would only assume he'd run away
