Appearance

When activated, the user’s pupils turn crimson and black tomoe emerge at their edges. The visual field becomes exceptionally clear and may appear covered by a faint red filter to the wielder. 1 2

Background / History

The Sharingan awakens through a powerful emotional shock. Feng’s first activation occurs after Kancang insults his deceased father during a taijutsu duel; the resulting ocular power lets Feng perceive Kancang’s balance, breathing, muscle tension, and attack preparation as direct visual information. 1

Lin Feng’s initial control is poor. Maintaining the One-Tomoe Sharingan for slightly over twenty seconds consumes roughly one-tenth of his mental energy, while deactivation takes one to two seconds and can fail without sustained concentration. 2

At the Uchiha Stone Stele, Lin Feng learns that the Mangekyo Sharingan requires the loss of someone important and “ultimate sorrow.” The ocular technique gained is tied to the power most desired in the wielder’s heart, though Lin Feng’s ocular power is insufficient to read the full text. 8

Root and Danzo seek to exploit the Sharingan through the Awakening Project, neuroactive drugs, suppression formulas, and human experimentation.
