Reiner of Liberio Was Born in Marley

In his hometown of Liberio, Reiner was born in the Liberio Internment Zone of Marley. His father was a Marleyan, while his mother, Karina Braun, was an Eldian. From childhood, Reiner had volunteered to become a Titan Warrior. He wanted to become an Honorary Marleyan so he could live with both of his parents.

During his training days, Reiner worked extremely hard, but his talents in every area were rather ordinary. Only his loyalty to Marley was exceptionally high, laying the groundwork for his later legend of endless defeats. In the end, he became a Warrior candidate alongside Annie, Bertolt, Pieck, Marcel Galliard, and Porco Galliard. Even so, Reiner was the weakest among them. Five of the six candidates would inherit Titans, and no matter how one looked at it, the last-place Reiner should not have been chosen.

However, things turned out differently from what Reiner expected. In the end, he was selected to inherit the Armored Titan, while Porco was the one who was not chosen.

Overjoyed, Reiner told his mother the good news. This meant they were now Honorary Marleyans. Reiner went to find his father, but his father had no desire to see him. His every word was filled with disgust toward Reiner and his mother.

Reiner's dream of living with both his parents had been shattered. Even so, Reiner still believed he was Marley's Titan Warrior, the chosen one.

After landing on Paradis Island, Marley began the Founding Titan Retrieval Plan. Marcel, the Jaw Titan; Reiner, the Armored Titan; Annie, the Female Titan; and Bertholdt, the Colossal Titan, were sent to Paradis Island. Their mission was to seize the power of the Founding Titan possessed by the king within the walls.

On the first night after setting up camp on the island, Marcel confessed to Reiner.
