The Third Hokage of Konoha in the Land of Fire, a direct disciple of the First and Second Hokage, and the teacher who cultivated the Three Legendary Sannin, whose fame shook the Shinobi World. Proficient in ninjutsu of all five chakra natures, he bore the title of Professor of Ninjutsu.

Hiruzen Sarutobi was the Hokage who had effectively held the Land of Fire's highest authority for the longest time in Shinobi World history, as well as the longest-lived Hokage. He ushered Konoha into its golden age.

He deeply inherited the Second Hokage's ruthless ideology, believing in absolute obedience to rules. Because Hiruzen failed to properly continue the Second Hokage's basic policy toward the Uchiha Clan, Danzō took on the village's darkness.

The two had always maintained a mutually beneficial partnership. Danzō provided Orochimaru with research materials—Sharingan and the like—while Orochimaru supplied Danzō with experimental results, such as Hashirama Senju cell transplants and Izanagi.
