Background / History

Garp sent Dragon to learn under Jin An, concerned that his quiet, withdrawn son had few peers and was overly fixated on becoming a Marine of justice 21. Dragon arrived in the Sorbet Kingdom with Zephyr’s wife and her child, where he encountered citizens living in fear of the king’s soldiers 32.

The kingdom forced Dragon to confront the limits of Marine authority: although Jin An had improved local security and prosperity, the Marines could not lawfully remove a king over internal abuses 32. Dragon initially mistook Jin An’s relaxed manner for indifference and dismissed him as unworthy of being a teacher 34.

The slave auctions at Sabaody deeply shake his faith in the Marines and World Government. His anger at slavery is genuine, and he joins Jin An’s effort to free those held in the auction house 39 40.

Over time, Dragon becomes more reflective and strategic. While organizing the Neo Marines, he stresses that anger alone cannot sustain a revolution; patience, coordination, and sufficient strength are necessary to end oppression permanently 434.
