Background / History

Lin Ye is a time-traveler who arrives in Loguetown on the day Gol D. Roger is executed. Roger's death causes transparent trait bubbles to appear, allowing Lin Ye to awaken his Trait Pickup and Shatter Traits abilities. He immediately acquires Roger's Haki, Divine Departure, and Voice of All Things, then kills a pirate with a Conqueror's Haki-infused slash. 1

After concluding that death and battle are the fastest paths to growth, Lin Ye chooses piracy over joining the Marines. He avoids the Marine search in Loguetown, kills pursuing Marines, and joins Gecko Moria's crew as a means of reaching the sea. 2 3

During roughly a year aboard Thriller Bark, Lin Ye becomes the crew's Combat Division Captain. He hides his strongest abilities, massacres hostile pirate crews for traits, and rapidly develops his Haki, physique, and swordsmanship.
