A gentle breeze drifted by. A dark cloud floated overhead, veiling the blazing sun's face, as though even the sun was unwilling to witness all that was happening upon the Primordial Wilderness!
Mu Jizi and Kunpeng rode auspicious clouds, the heaviness still apparent on their faces. After hesitating for a long while, Kunpeng finally said gravely, "Brother, what was that thing? Not only could it control dead flesh, even our powers could not harm it. Truly bizarre!"
"That thing was formed from the resentful spirit of one who died unjustly! It was born with immense resentment, and its body lay somewhere between illusion and nothingness! Ordinary spells could not harm it!" Mu Jizi pondered for a moment before slowly explaining.
"Then could we only stand by and sigh?" Kunpeng frowned tightly. "Was there not even a single method to be found?"
"It was not that there was none! That thing was an object of extreme yin between Heaven and Earth. To restrain it, Sun True Fire would suffice!" Mu Jizi shook his head. "But Sun True Fire is an object of utter hardness and utmost yang. Ordinary cultivators cannot control it!"
"We too knew ordinary fire-element divine abilities, but Sun True Fire was difficult to control!" Kunpeng was innately able to command the divine abilities of wind and water, and he instinctively resisted fire-element divine abilities.
"Then there was no other way!" Mu Jizi sighed. "I cultivated the Dao of Creation, which spoke of vitality. With my magical power, it was not impossible to forcibly erase such an extreme yin creature, but your wind and water divine abilities would be utterly useless, Brother."
At those words, Kunpeng's heart stirred. He suddenly asked with some anticipation, "Brother, do you still remember the tribulation lightning from when we took form?"
"Of course I remember!" Mu Jizi looked somewhat puzzled. "Why did you ask, Brother?"
"I wonder whether that sort of tribulation lightning could restrain such extreme yin creatures?" Kunpeng asked again.
"Of course it could!" Mu Jizi nodded, not quite understanding, but he still answered, "Among the utmost yang objects between Heaven and Earth, aside from Sun True Fire, there was Nine Heavens Divine Thunder. If one controlled that thunder, destroying that demon would be no difficult task!"
At this point, Mu Jizi suddenly paused. Then, with disbelief in his voice, he asked, "Could it be that you control Nine Heavens Divine Thunder, Brother?"
"Precisely!" A trace of a smile appeared on Kunpeng's grave face. "After I passed the transformation tribulation, a thread of lightning suddenly arose within my Great Peng true body. I paid it no heed at the time, but after more than five thousand years of secluded cultivation, all the wind-element immortal power within my Great Peng body actually transformed into lightning immortal power!"
"This is mutated immortal power!" Mu Jizi was overjoyed. He knew that wind-element power could mutate into lightning, but without tremendous opportunity and immense fortune, such a mutation could not be attained. At least in later ages, aside from Qiangliang and Xizi among the Twelve Ancestral Witches, Mu Jizi had never heard of any Primordial Wilderness great being deeply versed in this method. Moreover, Qiangliang controlled electricity in one hand and Xizi thunder in one hand; they did not possess lightning and electricity coexisting as one.
Thinking of this, Mu Jizi offered his heartfelt congratulations. "Brother, what fine fortune! Thunder commands punishment. The Great Dao may be expected!"
"Good!" Kunpeng smiled and nodded.
Thus, the two brothers, Mu Jizi and Kunpeng, had both found the path of their Dao. Their hopes of becoming saints were within reach!
Riding their auspicious clouds, the two cast aside their earlier solemnity, faint smiles appearing on their faces.
After traveling for a long time, Mu Jizi suddenly pointed into the distance. "Brother, look. The Beast Clan's sacred ground has arrived!"
Kunpeng raised his head and saw two qilin of Golden Immortal cultivation lying prone within a secluded mountain ravine. The two qilin were like mountains sprawled upon the ground, snorting from time to time. In an instant, a deathly aura spread through the air.
The two descended from their clouds and arrived at the ravine. Suddenly, a sharp cry rang out, "Who goes there? This is the Beast Clan's forbidden ground. If you have no urgent business, withdraw at once!"
"I am Kunpeng Patriarch of the North Sea. Today, I have come with my brother Mu Jizi to pay respects to Qilin Ancestor and discuss a strategy for destroying demons. Why have you not hurried to report our arrival?" Kunpeng's voice was like thunder exploding beside their ears, shaking the two qilin guarding the sacred ground again and again!
The two qilin exchanged a glance, their enormous eyes filled with terror. In a flash, the two beasts assumed human form. One rapidly flew into the ravine, while the other hurried forward and said flatteringly, "With the two Patriarchs gracing us with your presence, the day of demon extermination is at hand!"
"Enough nonsense. Quickly lead us to see Qilin Ancestor!" Kunpeng's face was full of impatience.
Mu Jizi, standing to one side, said nothing and watched the scene with a smile.
"Yes, yes!" The qilin answered respectfully and hurriedly led the two into the valley.
At that moment, several people came to greet them within the valley. One was the qilin who had run into the valley earlier. One wore yellow robes and had black hair, carrying an imposing air even without anger. Another wore white robes, his hair entirely white and his face aged, as though one foot had already stepped into the coffin. The last had the face of a child and hair like a crane's, but most striking of all were his white brows hanging to his chest!
The four came to the valley entrance. When Mu Jizi and Kunpeng stepped into the valley, the middle-aged man in yellow robes and black hair immediately brightened and hurried forward. "I am Qi Xiang, chief of the Qilin Tribe. Greetings, fellow Daoists!"
"I am Mu Jizi." Mu Jizi smiled faintly, then pointed to Kunpeng. "This is my younger brother, Kunpeng Patriarch. Greetings, fellow Daoists!"
"Greetings, fellow Daoists!" Qi Xiang smiled, then introduced the two people behind him. The white-haired elder was the Qilin Tribe's First Elder, while the man with the face of a child and hair like a crane was Yangmei Ancestor!
After exchanging greetings, they made another round of pleasantries. Then Qi Xiang led everyone into the valley.
Within the great hall, host and guests took their seats separately.
"Many thanks to you two fellow Daoists for coming to lend us aid this time!" Qi Xiang spoke first from the seat of honor.
"You are too courteous, fellow Daoist!" Mu Jizi smiled faintly. "Eliminating demons and defending the Dao is the duty of us cultivators!"
"Hehe! Fellow Daoist, you are truly righteous!" Qi Xiang nodded, though inwardly he was somewhat disdainful.
Duty? You are surely only afraid that the demon will threaten you when he destroys the Primordial Wilderness!
"I dare not accept such praise! I dare not!" Mu Jizi looked at Qi Xiang with a smile that was not quite a smile. "When the lips are gone, the teeth grow cold. I understand this principle. I came to aid you fellow Daoists only so that my pursuit of the Dao will not be disturbed in the future."
At those words, everyone was shaken. Most of those gathered here had come for precisely that reason, but none could truly say it aloud! In the Primordial Wilderness, everyone valued face more dearly than life itself. Asking them to admit that they feared Rahu Ancestor would hurt worse than killing them!
With that single statement from Mu Jizi, all those present could not help developing a favorable impression of him. Of course, it was only a favorable impression.
"Fellow Daoist, do not be so modest. Demons are rising everywhere now, yet you were unafraid of death and rushed here from the North Sea. You are worthy of the word 'righteousness'!" As expected of the chief of the Qilin Tribe, after being stunned for a moment, Qi Xiang immediately found the right words.
Mu Jizi smiled and said no more. After everyone chatted idly for a few more sentences, Mu Jizi and Kunpeng were led away by the First Elder to rest in the guest rooms.
