Background / History

Kunpeng first appeared as a small, instinct-driven Peng living near Mu Jizi's nanmu tree in the North Sea. Drawn to Mu Jizi, he sought shelter beneath the tree during a storm and developed an intense dependence on the being who would become his elder brother and guide. Mu Jizi's unintentional transmission of a cultivation method awakened Kunpeng's intelligence. 5 6 7

After awakening, Kunpeng revealed extraordinary potential. He could become a fish or a Roc whose body stretched tens of thousands of miles, absorb enormous quantities of innate spiritual energy, and cultivate at a speed that startled Mu Jizi. Unlike Mu Jizi's desire for freedom, Kunpeng immediately set his sights on becoming a Primordial Chaos Saint. 6

When the nine fruits on Mu Jizi's true body ripened, Kunpeng protected them from the beasts drawn to their aura, brutally killing the Hook Snake and other threats before accepting the fruits for himself. The fruits pushed him into a transformation tribulation. He endured eight bolts largely through his own strength, using his wings, wind barriers, and nearly indestructible beak, while Mu Jizi dispersed the remaining force of the eighth bolt and destroyed the final tribulation cloud. 7 8 9

After taking human form, Kunpeng traveled the Primordial Wilderness with Mu Jizi for two thousand years, collecting innate objects and confronting formations. On Mount Buzhou, he briefly fell into confusion under the illusion of the Northern Profound Yuan Water-Control Flag, but recovered with Mu Jizi's support and claimed the flag. The pair later returned to the North Sea, where Kunpeng helped establish their Dao field by gathering living beings for the new island. 10 13 14

During the rise of Luohu's demons, Kunpeng and Mu Jizi emerged from seclusion to fight. Kunpeng discovered that the wind-element immortal power within his Roc body had mutated into lightning immortal power after his transformation tribulation, granting him control over Nine Heavens Divine Thunder—a natural counter to extreme-yin resentful spirits and demons. 16 17

After the first great calamity, Kunpeng received merit that carried him into the Da Luo Golden Immortal realm. Later, prompted indirectly by Mu Jizi's remarks about the countless unawakened spirit beasts of the wilderness, Kunpeng spent a thousand years creating Demon Script. The Heavenly Dao recognized the script, transmitted it and a cultivation method to demon beasts across the Primordial Wilderness, and rewarded him with immense merit. 21 23

Kunpeng subsequently preached alongside Mu Jizi on Two Sages Island for three thousand years, helping awaken the spiritual intelligence of the island's beasts, plants, and other living things. When his cultivation caught up with Mu Jizi's, he challenged his elder brother to a sparring match above the North Sea, where his strength, speed, and transformations were tested against Mu Jizi's Space Lock. 24 25 26

His later travels brought him into repeated conflict with Redcloud Ancestor. After killing the Antelope Old Monster, Kunpeng rejected Red Cloud's moral condemnation, fought him, and used Devouring to consume most of Red Cloud's true-body essence before Red Cloud escaped. He later fought Red Cloud again in the chaos, where he relied on the Northern Black-Origin Water-Control Flag and his Roc form's speed to survive Red Cloud and Zhen Yuanzi's siege. 29 30 31 43 47

Appearance

In human form, Kunpeng wears white robes, with loose black hair and an ethereal, unbound bearing. Though his facial features are described as ordinary, his skin carries a faint luster and his eyes shine with glasslike light, giving him the air of a descending deity. 10

He frequently seeks direct tests of strength, whether challenging Mu Jizi to a duel, confronting Red Cloud, or wanting to rush into battle against demons. 6 18 25 30

His primordial beast nature is openly bloodthirsty. He kills weaker enemies without hesitation and initially values strength above karmic consequences or conventional morality.
