Reborn in the Primordial Wilderness as Green Willow

The information Yuan Tian received from his memories was that he had actually been reborn in the era of the Primordial Wilderness, less than ten thousand years after the creation of heaven and earth. Known as the Ten Innate Spirit Roots, they had all been nurtured before Primordial Chaos was divided and heaven and earth were opened, each possessing endless wondrous uses.

Ginseng Fruit was also known as the Grass-Returning Elixir. It blossomed once every three thousand years, bore fruit after another three thousand years, and took another three thousand years to ripen. It could only be eaten after nearly ten thousand years. In those ten thousand years, it bore only thirty fruits, each resembling a child less than three days old, complete with limbs and facial features. If one was fated to smell such a fruit, one would live another three hundred and sixty years; eating one would grant forty-seven thousand more years of life. Ginseng Fruit was incompatible with the five elements. It fell upon encountering metal, scorched upon encountering fire, dissolved upon encountering water, withered upon encountering wood, and burrowed into the ground upon encountering earth. Therefore, it had to be struck down with a metal tool and caught on silk laid over a tray. It had to be eaten using porcelain. It was one of the Innate Five-Element Spirit Roots, an earth-element spirit root.

Legend had it that the Bodhi Tree was the true body of Zhun Ti, the future western Sage. It had absorbed the first innate essence of metal and was one of the Innate Five-Element Spirit Roots, a metal-element spirit root!

The Ren Water Flat Peach was the most unusual among the Ten Spirit Roots. The other spirit roots each had only one plant, but it qualified by its overall numbers. It was the most numerous of them all, with a total of three thousand six hundred trees. Of these, one thousand two hundred bore tiny flowers and fruit and ripened once every three thousand years; whoever ate them would become an immortal and attain the Dao. Another one thousand two hundred ripened once every six thousand years; whoever ate them would ascend in radiant splendor and live forever without aging. The final one thousand two hundred had purple veins and small pits, ripening once every nine thousand years; whoever ate them would live as long as heaven and earth, sharing the same age as the sun and moon. It was one of the Innate Five-Element Spirit Roots, a water-element spirit root!

Fusang Wood grew in a forest of trees, with leaves like mulberry leaves. It also bore mulberries. The largest trees were two thousand zhang tall and more than two thousand spans around. The trees grew in pairs from the same roots, leaning against and depending upon one another. Thus it was called Fusang Wood, a fire-element spirit root!

When the Yellow Central Plum bloomed, it cast three shadows; when it bore fruit, it cast nine. Both its flowers and fruits bore the words "Yellow Central." It was a wood-element spirit root.

Bitter Bamboo, also known as Six Roots Pure Bamboo, could seal a person's six senses and could be refined into an Innate Spirit Treasure.

Legend said that the Immortal Apricot bore two fruits in its lifetime, possessing the attributes of wind and lightning respectively. Whoever ate them could gain the attributes of wind and lightning.

The Gourd grew on Mount Buzhou and bore seven innate gourds: red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and purple. If a great cultivator obtained them, each gourd could be refined into an Innate Spirit Treasure. One vine bore seven gourds, each one an Innate Spirit Treasure; thus, the Gourd Vine possessed the ability to bear many offspring.

The Moon Laurel was a spirit root on Taiyin Star, connected to the Moon Yin Spirit Vein. Unless it could be severed in a single strike, it would immediately regenerate. Its branches were supreme materials for refining artifacts.

The Ten Spirit Roots each had their own wondrous uses, but they shared one common trait: they could help their owners suppress their own fortune. The Bodhi Tree need not be mentioned, since it was the true body of the western Sage Zhun Ti, and a Sage could suppress his own fortune. Take the Ren Water Flat Peach and the Immortal Apricot, for example. The Ren Water Flat Peach had been bestowed by Dao Ancestor Hongjun upon the Queen Mother to suppress the fortune of the Heavenly Court, so naturally it possessed the ability to suppress fortune. As for the Immortal Apricot, it belonged to Yun Zhongzi of the Chan School. Yun Zhongzi was praised as a Blessed Virtue True Immortal. The most classic example was during the Investiture of the Gods War, when each of the Twelve Golden Immortals of the Chan School had the three flowers atop their heads cut away and the five energies in their chests sealed, while he alone remained unharmed, lively and active outside. In terms of cultivation, Yun Zhongzi was not stronger than every one of the Twelve Golden Immortals. In terms of treasures, although Yun Zhongzi possessed many, most had been refined by himself and could not compare to those of most Golden Immortals. Why then had he remained unharmed during the Investiture of the Gods War? Was it merely because he was called a Blessed Virtue True Immortal? Of course not. Hongyun, the greatest nice guy in the Primordial Wilderness, had also been called a Blessed Virtue True Immortal, and what happened to him? The main reason Yun Zhongzi had been fine was that the Immortal Apricot, one of the Ten Innate Spirit Roots, helped him suppress his own fortune.

It kept his fortune from scattering and ensured that good fortune rested upon him. Thus, each of the Ten Innate Spirit Roots possessed the ability to suppress fortune, and it was precisely because they had this ability that they could rank among the Ten Innate Spirit Roots. After saying so much, they still had not discussed Green Willow.

As one of the Ten Spirit Roots, Green Willow not only possessed the ability to suppress fortune, but also had other functions.

Green Willow's trunk was incomparably hard, and its innate defensive power was correspondingly unmatched. Willow branches were naturally peerlessly flexible and could be used as vine whips. Green Willow possessed countless innate willow branches, capable of binding and lashing people with limitless wondrous uses. At the same time, as one of the Ten Innate Spirit Roots, it contained the innate Spatial Law and Devouring Law. Spatial Law and Time Law were known together as the two heaven-defying laws, while Devouring Law was also a top-tier law.

It could be said that although Green Willow lacked the ability to bear edible fruit, it was more powerful than the other nine Innate Spirit Roots in every other respect.

However, when Pangu split open heaven and earth and they were about to close again, Green Willow had once helped Pangu hold them apart for a moment. But was heaven and earth so easy to support? Had no one seen that even Pangu had ultimately died from exhaustion? Thus, Green Willow had tragically injured its origin. Although after Pangu perished, the Great Dao descended merit, and Green Willow received three portions of it, completely healing its origin, the merit also raised Green Willow's quality to a higher level. This could have been considered a good thing, but the problem lay precisely in that increase in quality.

Green Willow had already been one of the Ten Innate Spirit Roots, its quality equivalent to a top-grade Innate Spirit Treasure. Now, Creation-Splitting Merit had elevated its quality another level, making it a Creation-grade Innate Spirit Root, equivalent to an Innate Supreme Treasure. Green Willow had originally possessed only a sliver of a chance to take form. After being altered by merit like this, that sliver of chance had practically been cut off. How could Yuan Tian not be anxious?
