Background / History

The Primordial Wilderness was created when Pangu cleaved apart the gray, lifeless expanse of Primordial Chaos. As the divided Chaos Qi rose and sank, heaven and earth took shape; Pangu then supported them with his body for 108,000 years until his power was exhausted. 1

Pangu's death further shaped the world. His body became Mount Buzhou, the pillar supporting heaven and earth; his primordial spirits became the Three Pure Ones, while twelve drops of vital blood became the Twelve Ancestral Shamans. Portions of Creation-Splitting Merit entered the newly formed world, Pangu's successors, and several Opening Heaven treasures. 1

During the final separation of heaven and earth, Green Willow appeared through Spatial Law and briefly aided Pangu in holding the realms apart. Its consciousness perished from the effort, but Pangu sent an unidentified force into its body before its death, leaving behind a remnant that later benefited Yuan Tian. 217

Less than ten thousand years after Pangu's transformation, a black hole appeared in the Eastern Sea and released the Great Dao Secret Record before vanishing. 1

During the opening of heaven and earth, Green Willow briefly helped Pangu hold the separating realms apart, damaging its origin. It later received three portions of Creation-Splitting Merit, which healed it and elevated it into a Creation-grade Innate Spirit Root. 3

In the earliest period after creation, Ferocious Beasts were the sole dominant species of the Primordial Wilderness. Their indiscriminate slaughter of other beings and one another ultimately enabled the emerging races to eliminate them piecemeal, with the Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans making the greatest contribution. 90

After more than three hundred kalpas and over forty million years of development, the world entered an age of contention among the Hundred Clans. The Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans subsequently established their hegemonic authority through vows to the Great Dao. 7

Yuan Tian's establishment of the Chaos Star Formation later increased the world's spiritual qi and partially completed the Heavenly Dao Laws. This caused the Heavenly Dao to emerge and begin governing the Primordial Wilderness ahead of schedule, inaugurating the Heavenly Dao Era before Hongjun's eventual Dao Integration. 109 118

Luohou later founded the Devil Cult at Mount Mara in the western region, gaining Great Dao Merit for creating a new faction despite the cult's demonic character. 140

The emergence of the Fourteenth-Rank Azure Lotus, an Innate Supreme Treasure formed from the fusion of two twelve-petaled lotus treasures, drew cultivators from across the Primordial Wilderness to Qilin Mountain. The ensuing struggle inflicted serious losses on the Qilin Clan, Dragon-Phoenix forces, and rogue cultivators alike. 158 222 223

The Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans' escalating conflicts with the Hundred Clans, compounded by Luohou's covert schemes, have brought the world to the verge of the Dragon-Han Primordial Tribulation. 81 138 262

Geography

• Primordial Continent — The central landmass and principal arena of the hundred clans’ struggle for supremacy. The Qilin Clan occupies its central region. 7
• Eastern Sea — Domain of the Dragon Clan and Black Tortoise Clan; Penglai Island lies within its overseas region. 1 7 12
• Penglai Island — One of the Three Overseas Islands. It spans roughly ten million li, is bordered by Primordial Chaos qi, and contains regions capable of converting Chaos qi into innate spiritual qi. Inhabitants and Power Structure

Great Dao and Heavenly Dao

Before the emergence of the Heavenly Dao, the Heavenly Dao remained hidden and the Great Dao temporarily governed the Primordial Wilderness. The Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans therefore directed their vows to the Great Dao rather than the Heavenly Dao. 7

After Yuan Tian established the Chaos Star Formation, the partially completed Heavenly Dao Laws enabled the Heavenly Dao to emerge early and govern the Primordial Wilderness. Its laws remain incomplete until Hongjun's future Dao Integration, while the Great Dao continues to exist as the deeper governing principle. 109

The Heavenly Dao is described as an impersonal system of rules rather than a conscious being. It offers a more attainable path to Sagehood than the Great Dao, but imposes greater restrictions upon the world's beings. 109

Primordial Three Clans

The Dragon, Phoenix, and Qilin Clans became the three dominant powers after their leaders swore to protect living beings and rule their respective kinds. The Great Dao rewarded them with immense merit, raising Ancestral Dragon, Phoenix Ancestor, and Qilin Ancestor to the peak of the Daluo Golden Immortal realm. 7

The three powers initially maintained a tense balance. Though they sought supremacy, none initially held an overwhelming advantage over the others. 7

The balance has since deteriorated. Following the Hundred-Clan Ranking Tournament, the Three Clans grew increasingly arrogant and began forcibly absorbing or exterminating weaker races. Their campaigns relied on primordial-spirit-controlling treasures and Great Dao or Heavenly Dao oaths of submission. 79 81

Many absorbed races secretly worded their oaths to serve Ancestral Dragon, Phoenix Ancestor, and Qilin Ancestor as individuals rather than their respective clans. This loophole is expected to undermine the clans' authority once their ancestors fall. 81

The Three Clans currently face mounting resistance from the Hundred Clans. Although they can coordinate against a common threat, their cooperation remains an alliance of convenience marked by distrust and mutual opportunism. 138 223

Other Major Powers

• Star Clan — A force of 365 silver-armored beings created from Yuan Tian's Chaos Star Banners and connected to the 365 primary stars. It remains largely detached from affairs on the Primordial Continent while providing Innate Spiritual Qi to living beings. The Three Clans have judged it too difficult to confront directly. 109 223
• Devil Cult — Luohou's western faction, founded at Mount Mara and suppressed by the Sword Formation of Execution of Immortals and the Heavenly Demon Pagoda. Its establishment was recognized with Great Dao Merit. 140

Hundred Clans and Independent Cultivators

The world contains countless races, with the Dragon, Phoenix, Qilin, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise Clans regarded as its six great races. 7 27

The Primordial Wilderness is governed largely by strength: independent cultivators are generally vulnerable before established clans, while opposition to the Three Clans’ authority carries little weight without sufficient power. 7

The era is particularly perilous during the Dragon-Phoenix Tribulation. The three dominant clans, the hundred races, and numerous Innate Fiendgods make it an age of exceptional power despite the absence of Sages. 36

The Three Clans' conquest campaigns and subsequent war with the Hundred Clans have made the world increasingly dangerous. Elite targeted killings, retaliatory raids, and large-scale factional warfare have severely depleted high-end combatants on every side. 81 138

Spiritual Environment

• Innate spiritual qi is abundant across the early Primordial Wilderness, making ordinary cultivation sites relatively easy to find. 25
• Primordial Chaos qi surrounds parts of Penglai Island and is dangerous even to powerful cultivators. 12
