Yuan Tian soon stopped worrying about taking form. He found the answer in the inheritance that had originally belonged to Green Willow. The reason Green Willow had not taken form in the Primordial Wilderness of his previous life was not because it had reached the level of a Creation-grade Innate Spirit Root and thus could not take form. Rather, when Green Willow helped Pangu split creation, the spiritual intelligence it had originally developed dispersed. That was why Green Willow could receive one-third of the Creation-Splitting Merit. As one of the ten great Innate Spirit Roots, it was already extraordinarily difficult for Green Willow to take form; developing spiritual intelligence was even harder. Since Green Willow had originally developed spiritual intelligence but lost it while supporting the heavens, even with the aid of Creation-Splitting Merit, one of the ten great Innate Spirit Roots would need to wait until after an immeasurable tribulation before it could possibly develop spiritual intelligence a second time. This was also why there had been no tales in later generations of Green Willow taking form among the ten great Innate Spirit Roots.
But if Green Willow developed spiritual intelligence again, then with the help of Creation-Splitting Merit, it only needed Great Luo Realm cultivation to take form. Yuan Tian became happy once more. Green Willow had not developed spiritual intelligence again, but he had been reborn into Green Willow. Was that not equivalent to becoming Green Willow's spiritual intelligence? Did that not mean he only needed to cultivate to the Great Luo Realm to take form? How could Green Willow not be delighted?
All Yuan Tian needed to do now was cultivate, and he had to make haste. This was the era of the Primordial Wilderness. Although there were still less than ten thousand years until creation was split, and 99.999... percent of the famous experts of later generations had yet to take form, Yuan Tian was different from them. He was a spirit root. Even though he was one of the ten great Innate Spirit Roots, that could not change one of a spirit root's characteristics before taking form: it could not move. If Yuan Tian had not known that an innate concealment formation lay before him and protected him, he would have had to cultivate in constant fear again. He had no choice but to fear it. Unable to move, if anyone above the Immortal level came along, no matter how tough he was, he would either die or be injured.
Therefore, Yuan Tian's most urgent task was cultivation. But before cultivating, there was still one matter he needed to handle: he needed a cultivation art suited to himself. What was the point of cultivating without one?
Although Yuan Tian possessed countless cultivation arts from his ten lifetimes, including quite a few supreme techniques, the best and most suitable cultivation art was still one he created himself.
In his previous lives, Yuan Tian had studied every kind of cultivation art in the world, and the technique he cultivated was itself among the world's finest. Thus, creating a cultivation art suited to himself might not have been difficult for him. But creating one that was both suitable and excellent was no easy task.
Speaking of cultivation arts, there were none in the early Primordial Wilderness, during the Dragon-Han Tribulation. Even before Dao Ancestor Hongjun preached the Dao, there were no systematic cultivation methods to speak of. Yuan Tian was currently in the early Primordial Wilderness, where the vast majority of cultivators had no cultivation arts. They mainly relied on their innate inheritances to explore on their own or discussed the Dao with one another before gaining enlightenment. Cultivation throughout the Primordial Wilderness was like feeling for stones while crossing a river.
But while others had no systematic cultivation methods, Yuan Tian did. As a cultivator from later generations, Yuan Tian possessed countless systematic cultivation arts. He carefully recalled all the techniques he knew. Creating a cultivation art was truly no easy matter. Yuan Tian spent a full million years, with the help of the Great Dao Secret Record, creating a supreme cultivation art according to the specific conditions of his current body. This was merely its initial creation, after all. Supreme cultivation arts were not so easily created. Even with Yuan Tian's vast experience, the cultivation art he created was enough for his current stage of cultivation.
The cultivation art Yuan Tian created was called the Ninefold Soul-Origin Mystic Art. It was adapted and fused from the sect-protecting divine arts and clan-defending cultivation methods of such supreme sects and races as the Mystic Sect, Buddhist Sect, Demon Clan, Witch Clan, and Demon Clan. It could be said to gather the essence of all mystic arts under heaven and possessed immense might. Cultivating the Ninefold Soul-Origin Mystic Art required an enormous amount of mana. The mana required to cultivate the Ninefold Soul-Origin Mystic Art was a hundred times that of cultivators at the same realm.
Naturally, its benefit was that those who cultivated the Ninefold Soul-Origin Mystic Art were virtually invincible within the same realm. With a hundred times the mana of others at the same realm, they could even kill opponents above their level. The Ninefold Soul-Origin Mystic Art consisted of five sections: the Cultivation Section, Alchemy Section, Artifact Refinement Section, Divine Ability Section, and Miscellaneous Notes. For now, let us look at the Cultivation Section. Under normal circumstances, when people spoke of the Ninefold Soul-Origin Mystic Art, they meant the Cultivation Section.
The Cultivation Section of the Ninefold Soul-Origin Mystic Art cultivated the soul, Primordial Spirit, and physical body as one, training all three simultaneously. Once mastered, it allowed the physical body to become deathless, the Primordial Spirit to become indestructible, and the soul to endure eternally.
The Ninefold Soul-Origin Mystic Art had nine turns, divided into the Nine Soul Turns, Nine Primordial-Spirit Turns, and Nine Physical-Body Turns. The three respectively cultivated the soul, Primordial Spirit, and physical body. They were connected yet distinct. So long as one of them broke through, it could accelerate the breakthroughs of the other two. It was profound beyond measure.
Everyone possessed a soul; it was the foundation of a person. Once the soul left the body, the person died. So long as a person's soul remained intact, they could reincarnate. But once a person's soul perished, they vanished completely from the universe. The Primordial Spirit differed from the soul. Not everyone possessed one, or rather, not everyone was born with one. The Primordial Spirit emerged only after a person cultivated to a certain level. It could be called the spirit, or the sublimation of the spirit. Among its many functions was the protection of the soul. The Primordial Spirit was, in a sense, the soul's shell. The physical body was the outermost shell of both the Primordial Spirit and soul, protecting them both.
The Ninefold Soul-Origin Mystic Art had two benefits. First, it required no particular cultivation posture. In other words, one could cultivate while standing, lying down, or sitting; unlike other cultivation arts, there was no need to sit cross-legged. Second, the Ninefold Soul-Origin Mystic Art was not afraid of interruptions during cultivation. This could be considered one of the common advantages of supreme cultivation arts.
Though the Ninefold Soul-Origin Mystic Art had nine turns, Yuan Tian had currently created only its first four. Cultivating to the fourth turn allowed one to reach the Great Luo Realm. After all, the highest cultivation Yuan Tian had attained over his ten lifetimes was merely that of a Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal. As for the later portions of the Ninefold Soul-Origin Mystic Art, even with other cultivation arts as references, they were not so easy to create. The further one advanced in cultivation, the greater the disparity became. It would only become harder for Yuan Tian to create the later portions. Therefore, Yuan Tian had only deduced part of the fifth turn of the Ninefold Soul-Origin Mystic Art. By his estimation, fully creating the fifth turn would require at least hundreds of millions of years. Of course, Yuan Tian did not need to consider that now. To take form, he only needed to reach the Great Luo Realm—the fourth turn of the Ninefold Soul-Origin Mystic Art.
