Cheng Jue looked into the distance, where a group of players had just eliminated a level-eight Slime monster.
On closer inspection, Cheng Jue recognized them all: Tianhe Sheriff, "Dun Qu Qi Yi," Young Mistress, and Ali, the video creator Cheng Jue had just been watching.
Besides the Slime they had just killed, there was someone else.
It was a carriage, and seated atop it was a white-haired young woman with a fox tail.
"What happened?" As soon as the question arose in Cheng Jue's mind, the Human Dao Jade Disc stored within Cheng Jue's Auspicious Cloud trembled lightly, and Cheng Jue understood the entire chain of events.
"So that was it." Cheng Jue had left system task distribution to Skadi, so Cheng Jue only had a general grasp of the players' progress. But if Cheng Jue wanted to understand the details, all Cheng Jue needed to do was touch the Human Dao Jade Disc within the Auspicious Cloud with divine consciousness.
Not long ago, Dun Qu Qi Yi had received a task from Skadi to go and escort personnel from Mondstadt.
The system required multiple participants, so she had called Tianhe Sheriff, Young Mistress, and Ali to complete the task together.
Following the system prompt, they had arrived at their destination and discovered a Slime blocking the path of a carriage headed for the Player Camp.
The moment everyone saw the fox girl seated at the front of the carriage, the system issued a task prompt: eliminate the Slime monster and lead the NPC to the Player Camp.
Young Mistress looked at the task prompt and said enviously, "See? I told you Dun Qu Qi Yi must have received a story quest. Sure enough, having high favorability with Skadi is great. Whenever there's a good task, Little Yi gets it first. Little Yi is already level nine!"
Little Yi was short for Dun Qu Qi Yi. Based on their interactions with her, everyone could tell that Dun Qu Qi Yi had to be a student in real life.
That cheerfulness and liveliness were not something someone who had entered society would possess.
Whenever Young Mistress, Qi Lin, and the others watched Dun Qu Qi Yi pretend to be an adult, they would smile and say nothing.
And whenever Dun Qu Qi Yi heard Young Mistress or Qi Lin sighing in front of her about how she had such high favorability with Skadi,
Dun Qu Qi Yi could only smile helplessly. Jue thought, I can't exactly say that I've known Skadi for a long time, can I?
The Slime that had been about to attack the carriage noticed the four people rushing out of the forest. After a fierce internal struggle in its tiny head, it concluded that four people were more than one.
Following that logic, it changed targets and charged toward Dun Qu Qi Yi and the others.
The white-haired fox girl on the carriage saw the Slime change targets and shouted a warning, "This is a monster mutated from a First-Order water Slime. It's highly corrosive."
"A monster?" Qi Lin, Young Mistress, and Ali were all stunned. They each cast an Appraisal Technique on the Slime.
[Name: Corrosive Slime] [Level: 8] [Description: Water Slimes are peculiar lifeforms formed from water elements dispersed throughout nature. Due to the invasion of Fierce Beasts, Chaos Qi infiltrated the world, corrupting this Water Slime into a monster. Wherever it passes, plants are slowly corroded, the earth is gradually tainted, and the land becomes a dead zone for life.]
Young Mistress and the others exchanged looks. "A monster? We've never heard of that. We've spent the past two days in this game doing construction tasks. Does Dun Qu Qi Yi know anything?"
Everyone looked at Dun Qu Qi Yi.
Seeing everyone looking at her, Dun Qu Qi Yi hesitated for a while before saying, "As for monsters, I only heard a few things from Skadi. I don't know anything else."
Of course Skadi would not tell her much. Jue had only been born a few days ago. In Skadi's eyes, Jue was merely a little baby, and Jue's only goal right now was to grow up happily.
As for the outside world and the monsters created by Chaos Qi, those were matters for elders like them to handle.
As she spoke, Dun Qu Qi Yi sent the bits and pieces she had heard from Skadi to everyone through the game system.
"Alright, everyone, we can discuss the backstory later. The monster is charging at us." Ali, who had been recording from the start, urgently reminded them.
After an intense battle—or rather, it could not even be called intense. It was simply four level-seven and level-eight players bullying a pitiful, helpless little monster.
The white-haired fox girl on the carriage swallowed hard. "Are these the legendary Travelers? The creations of the Mother Goddess? Why do they look more like terrifying monsters that crawled out of the Black Sea?"
"Waaah, waaah, waaah! X﹏X It's so scary here!"
Qi Lin, Young Mistress, and Ali all wore excited smiles as they frantically attacked the Slime in the middle. Even the harmless-looking Dun Qu Qi Yi seemed frightening when compared with the other three.
Then Qi Lin's crossbow fired a special bolt. Red flames flared from its tip as it shot straight at the Slime, instantly vaporizing most of it and ending the battle.
After the Slime vanished, the elemental power belonging to it returned to heaven and earth. Meanwhile, the Chaos Qi within its body churned and condensed into an irregular crystal, with faint Chaos Qi rolling within it.
Under the rules Cheng Jue had set in advance, the faith and laws within the Grotto-Heaven World were triggered.
A strand of mysterious yellow light descended from heaven, interwoven with seven laws that transformed into two crystals. The crystals emitted a comfortable golden glow, invisible faith rippled, and a bag of Mora appeared on the ground as well.
"What is this?" Qi Lin, Dun Qu Qi Yi, Young Mistress, and Ali stepped forward to pick up the Slime's dropped loot. More accurately, only the irregular crystal had actually come from inside the Slime.
"The others seem to have been generated by some kind of game mechanic." Young Mistress had seen it clearly and gave her conclusion.
"Why overthink it? Just appraise them." Ali reminded them from the side.
"That's true!" Only then did everyone react.
[Name: Creation Crystal] [Description: A crystal formed from the Merit power of the Primordial World and blessings from the World Tree and the Seven Archons. It possesses invisible benefits.] [Effect: An absolute hard currency.]
They then looked at the other items.
[Name: Mora] [Description: A universal currency created by the Seven Archons through faith and Heaven-and-Earth Spiritual Energy.] [Effect: A general equivalent and used to upgrade items and equipment.]
"Mora has that kind of use?" Ali asked in confusion. She had originally thought Mora was just money in the game.
They then looked at the final item.
[Name: First-Order Magic Core] [Description: A crystal formed from Chaos Qi. Useless.] [Effect: Can be exchanged for items with the fox girl Jiu Yue.]
After everyone finished reading the description of the First-Order Magic Core, a large question mark appeared above it.
A question mark also appeared above the white-haired fox girl on the distant carriage.
"Then she must be the fox girl Jiu Yue mentioned in the information."
"We triggered a quest."
On the World Tree, Cheng Jue withdrew Cheng Jue's gaze and let out a sigh of relief, looking excited. "What's going on? I can actually obtain the laws after players kill monsters. Could it be because all players have been marked by the Human Dao Jade Disc?"
"But that doesn't seem right. Although the Elves and creatures I created were not marked by the Human Dao Jade Disc, they are still Humanity Dao's dependents. Why haven't they reacted at all?"
"Could it be because..."
"I'll have to experiment with it when I get the chance."
