Qi Lin serves as a police officer in Tianhe City. Before the closed beta began, she watched the World Tree promotional video, registered the forum account Tianhe Sheriff, and became suspicious that the user “Demacia” might be a foreigner or spy based on his comments about China. 17

She receives a World Tree beta helmet at the Tianhe City Police Department. Her colleagues initially mistake the delivery for a secret admirer’s gift before focusing on the helmet itself; her superior later implies that the game is an important national project and encourages her to participate seriously. 19

During character creation, Qi Lin imports and blends her real appearance into a female Elf avatar, retains her forum name, and enters the game as Tianhe Sheriff. She is struck by the game’s full sensory realism, including adjustable pain simulation. 19
