Newgate held the collector's edition of "Young Karp" that Marco had just brought him. He sat on the dock, watching the Moby Dick take on supplies.
Just as he was about to see how the collector's edition differed from the regular one, the Den Den Mushi in his coat rang.
Newgate pulled it out and glanced at it. "Shiki? What does he want all of a sudden?"
Not long ago, talk had spread across the seas that he, Shiki, and Vikengam were the pirate emperors of the New World—the pinnacle of piracy today.
Newgate had never cared for empty titles, so he had paid the rumors little attention.
But Shiki's sudden call made him wonder whether the man had let the talk go to his head and wanted to drag him into some scheme.
After a moment's hesitation, Newgate answered.
"What?" he asked impatiently.
"It's me, David D. Shiki," Shiki said gravely.
Newgate was speechless.
"Have you lost your mind?" he said bluntly.
