Background / History
Ji Xi is the son of Ji Zhi, the Ji Household's real eldest daughter. His mother raised him after being driven from the Ji family and worked a breakfast stall to support them. Ji Xi bears his mother's surname; his father died young, and Ji Zhi deliberately kept the assets he left behind unused so that Ji Xi could remain distant from his father's dangerous former life. 41 89 114 260
Despite poverty and persistent harassment at school, Ji Xi held first place in his grade for nearly three years. His school waived his tuition and provided an enrollment bonus in exchange for a strong Gaokao result. 7 166
Lin Shi repeatedly targeted Ji Xi, including physical intimidation, humiliation, and having a lackey drench him with water. Ji Xi regarded Su Su's public interventions as harmful rather than helpful: each time she defended him, Lin Shi's retaliation became worse. He refused to surrender his top rank simply to avoid attention, treating his grades as the one thing he could still control. 6 7
During lunch breaks, Ji Xi helped his mother and often returned to school soaked in sweat. He initially tried to conceal this, but eventually stopped hiding it when the story became common knowledge among classmates. 31
With fewer than two months left before the Gaokao, Ji Xi transferred from the Top Student Class to Class 7 to approach Yan Xianjue. He proposed working for Yan Xianjue for twenty years without company shares in exchange for help navigating the Ji Household's looming threat, reasoning that his academic standing made him valuable to a top-student-themed variety-show investment. 39 47
Ji Xi and Ji Zhi later attended Old Master Ji's birthday banquet, where Ji Zhi confronted the Ji Household and produced evidence against Ji the Old Madam and Ji Yue. Ji Xi endured the old madam's insults without interrupting his mother, then defended Ji Zhi directly when Zhang Lei attempted to drive them out of the residence. 89 91 101
Appearance
Ji Xi is a lean, composed student whose calm expression is notably difficult to provoke. Poverty and undernourishment once made his trained physique less apparent, but regular meals at Yan Corporation made his muscles more visible. 6 59 102
- Maintains a cold, restrained expression even when confronted by Lin Shi. 6 48
- Wore a faded but impeccably neat school uniform before receiving work clothes. 40
- Later appeared in a white shirt and black dress pants while presenting at Yan Corporation. 59
- Has a resemblance to his maternal uncle, Ji Heng. 31
Personality
Ji Xi is pragmatic, proud, and intensely self-reliant. Although Ji Heng repeatedly wished to help him and Ji Zhi, Ji Xi preferred making an unequal twenty-year work agreement to accepting the Ji Household's guilt or charity. He believes he can regain anything he sacrifices through his own efforts. 40 41
His restraint is deliberate rather than passive. He endured Lin Shi's harassment while it served his goals, but refuses degrading gestures such as accepting Lin Shi's money. When provoked beyond his limit, he acts decisively—whether by publicly exposing Su Su's manipulation, throwing Zhang Lei, or pursuing legal retaliation against those who harmed his mother. 48 55 102 312 313
Ji Xi is blunt and often dryly sarcastic. He can be visibly exasperated by Yan Xianjue's abrupt decisions and Lei Xuan's behavior, but he has grown comfortable enough with Yan Xianjue to voice complaints directly. 120 130 292 393
