Background and History

Cain is a reincarnated person from another world, where a truck ended his previous life. His early years on the Demon Continent exposed him to starvation, predatory monsters, attempted trafficking, and poisonous food. These experiences made survival the original reason for his relentless pursuit of strength 2.

Gal Farion took him in at three years old, and Cain spent the following nine years at the Sword Sanctum. Ghislaine remembers him practicing almost without rest, continuing despite bleeding hands and exhaustion. After seeing Gal demonstrate the Blade of Light once, he reproduced it with a wooden sword and immediately returned to training 2 98.

His Jobless Training System awakened shortly before his departure from the Sanctum. While swordsmanship was his natural talent, the system supplied magical aptitude, chantless casting, and a large mana reserve 2.

The Sword God title

Cain defeated Gal with wooden swords but departed as though he had lost, preserving the dignity of the master who raised him. Gal recognized the result, gave him the title Second Sword God, and remained at the Sanctum himself 1 2.

The distinction separates Cain’s victory and inherited ranking from leadership of the dojo: Gal continues to be addressed as Sword God, while Cain travels independently. More than ten years later, Gal publicly calls Cain the Sanctum’s true, uncrowned Sword God and rebukes disciples who still mistake his departure for defeat 53 252.

Appearance

  • Black hair and youthful features: Introduced as a handsome, black-haired boy wearing white swordsman attire 1.
  • Small stature: Frequently mistaken for a lost child despite his title and weapons 85 185.
  • Training-worn hands: Bears a thin layer of calluses when leaving the Sanctum 1.
  • Mana exhaustion: His hair turns white after expending his remaining mana during the confrontation with Orsted 88.
  • Armor forms: His blue-green Magic Armor later becomes golden Fighting God Armor, then sacred white after complete mastery 170 225.

Personality

Cain combines extraordinary discipline with little initial knowledge of ordinary life. At the Sanctum, he concentrates so completely on sword practice that he does not know what a swordsman of his ability could earn as a guard. His terrible sense of direction persists even after extensive travel, and he resists admitting the problem 2 4 186.

He values relationships more than rank. He refuses to point a real sword at Gal, thanks Keith without concern for his own prestige, and helps Roxy reconcile with Jinas. As a teacher, he eventually learns to leave openings and restrain himself so that students can improve without losing confidence 1 60 61 168.

His restraint is selective rather than absolute. He defeats palace guards nonlethally and stops Alexander from killing officials who are merely doing their jobs, but kills traffickers and hostile apostles. When investigating attacks on Roxy, he also uses injury and threats to force information from a captive 23 70 204 217.

His ambition changes with his attachments. He initially seeks enough power to survive and surpass the gods; later, protecting his lovers and friends becomes his explicit reason for growing stronger 2 225.

Abilities & Skills

Sword God Style and Blade of Light

Cain’s specialty is an exceptionally precise, fast interpretation of the Sword God Style. In his duel with Gal, flawless execution allows him to deflect a faster opening strike and counter 1.

  • Uses the Blade of Light repeatedly during ordinary combat rather than reserving it as a finishing technique 6.
  • Executes consecutive slashes, including the Fourfold Blade of Light, which defeats North God III Alexander in less than half a second 87 117.
  • Develops a two-sword variation and can perform cutting strikes barehanded 145 168 217.
  • Attacks at distances of forty to fifty meters before his later breakthrough; his completed aura cuts a tree one hundred meters away 70 225.
  • According to Orsted, his mastery surpasses every Sword God except the first generation; Orsted later considers that he may rival or exceed even that predecessor, whom Orsted never met 87 95.

Specialized Battle Aura

Cain sharpens his Battle Aura into a blade-like form that enhances his body and weapons 77.

  • Increases cutting power and slash speed enough to challenge Water God Style counters 23 77.
  • Sacrifices much of conventional Battle Aura’s defensive capacity for offensive sharpness 77.
  • Becomes too specialized to learn other styles’ aura methods, according to Orsted 95.
  • Eventually transforms into transparent, fluid aura that merges with mana; Cain does not consider its defense equivalent to Orsted’s Dragon Saint Battle Aura 225.

Magic and Mana-Martial Conflux

His system-granted magical talent develops rapidly under Roxy. By the Emperor-class milestone, he has learned nearly half her magic, including composite magic 2 33.

  • Chantless Casting: Uses magic without spoken incantations 1 2.
  • Mana-Martial Conflux: Converts mana and Battle Aura into each other, using the higher capacity as the ceiling for both and removing racial restrictions on growth 33.
  • Battlefield control: Freezes and sinks targets before striking; uses Frost Nova to extinguish smoke and freeze a training ground 124 168.
  • Absolute Zero: Freezes a vast stretch of sea to create a route toward Rudeus’s distress signal 238.
  • Divine-rank fireball: Produces a spell over one hundred meters tall whose detonation threatens half the Central Continent and a Mana Disaster. He uses the threat rather than detonating it 88.
  • Early limitation: His excessive mana investment makes a simple Fireball dangerous at close range. Orsted later criticizes his poor integration of magic into sword combat 30 95.

Armor and Combined Attacks

Cain uses magically powered armor to supplement his offensive swordsmanship 87.

  • Liquid Metal Magic Armor: Triples physical abilities and compensates for weaknesses in strength and defense against Orsted 87.
  • Demon Light Slash: Fuses immense mana and Battle Aura into an ultimate sword attack. Orsted survives with the help of a protective magic item; Cain is left severely exhausted 87.
  • Improved Fighting God Armor: Incorporates Orsted’s modifications and later becomes sensitive to Cain’s emotions 170 220.
  • Complete mastery: Cain identifies the lingering obsession of Demon Dragon King Laplace as the source of the armor’s darkness. Acknowledging Laplace and promising to oppose the Human God allows him to purge that influence 225.

Regeneration and Healing

Cain’s Undying Devil heritage grants rapid natural recovery, which he supplements with healing magic 17 86.

  • Recovers from fractures and dislocations that would seriously incapacitate an ordinary fighter 17.
  • Combines his bloodline’s regeneration with chantless Advanced Healing Magic to repair a fractured forearm almost instantly 86.
  • Heals Eris’s fractured hands and stabilizes the critically wounded Rudeus 108 238.
  • His Advanced Healing Magic cannot restore another person’s severed limbs at the point shown during Zelos’s interrogation 70.

Teaching and Rank Recognition

As Gal’s acknowledged successor, Cain can evaluate swordsmen and confer ranks 77.

  • Questions Zoldat about his purpose before accepting his request for instruction 30.
  • Passes on his sharpened-aura swordsmanship and recognizes Zoldat as a Sword King 76 77.
  • Trains Eris through controlled sparring, using a one-hit victory condition and a promised wish as motivation 168.
  • Encourages Eris’s independent training despite finding her departure emotionally difficult 252.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Instant Void — A gold-patterned, single-edged magic tachi gifted by Gal. The quickest of Gal’s seven magic blades to draw and swing, it weighs barely more than three pounds 2.
  • Wooden practice swords — Used in his victory over Gal and later instruction of Zoldat 1 30.
  • Magic Armor / Fighting God Armor — His principal combat enhancement; the improved form deploys from a golden gauntlet 87 170.
  • False God Blade — An imitation of the God Blade with one-third of its power. Summoning requires half his mana, an appropriate emotional state, and substantial continuing expenditure. It shatters during his aura breakthrough 170 225.
  • King Dragon Sword — Briefly receives it from Alexander and gives it to Eris. Later recovers it from a Human God apostle and returns it to Alexander 196 238.
  • Communication stone tablet — Gives one to Rudeus when their parties separate to search for missing relatives 220.

Relationships

  • Gal Farion / Gall — Adoptive master, predecessor, and enduring source of respect. Entrusts Cain with his dream of surpassing Orsted; Cain’s victory renews Gal’s own commitment to training 1 2 13 252.
  • Roxy Migurdia — Adventuring partner, navigator, and magic teacher. Their bond becomes romantic; by the rescue of Rudeus, she regards Cain as her husband 4 5 225 238.
  • Eris Boreas Greyrat — Swordsmanship disciple and later lover. Wants to surpass Cain so she can protect him; he supports her decision to train at the Sword Sanctum 102 225 252.
  • Orsted — Initially a near-fatal opponent, later a partner and mentor against the Human God. Advises Cain on magic integration and helps improve his armor 86 87 88 95 170.
  • Zoldat — Adventurer ally and swordsmanship student. Cain teaches him without reservation and recognizes his advancement to Sword King 30 53 76 77.
  • Ghislaine — Fellow disciple of Gal, traveling companion, and co-teacher of Eris. Remembers Cain’s childhood training and respects his exceptional mastery 98 102 108.
  • Alexander Kallman Reiback — Former Human God apostle defeated by Cain, later a loyal companion. Cain accepts his submission but repeatedly restrains his excessive violence 117 196 204.
  • Rudeus Greyrat — Junior companion whom Cain protects and supports. Despite Orsted’s suspicions, Cain agrees to observation rather than immediate execution and later rescues him from bandits 220 238.
  • Human God — Enemy behind attempts on Roxy and attacks by apostles. Calls Cain an “inherently evil Sword God”; Cain ultimately makes defeating him a central goal 70 225 237.
  • Ruijerd — Traveling companion and guide. Cain explains the truth behind the Superd Tribe’s reputation to help Alexander accept him 186 196.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Departure and Ranoa Adventures

After defeating Gal, Cain leaves with Instant Void, money, a map, and a proposed introduction to Water God Reida. His navigation immediately fails: he returns to the Sanctum the next day and subsequently reaches Ranoa instead of his intended route 1 2.

He registers as an adventurer, partners with Roxy, and establishes his reputation through Mud Dragon and Red Dragon subjugations. When officials withhold payment, he forces his way into the palace, defeats its defenders without killing them, and demands the adventurers’ reward 3 4 6 14 17 23.

The Human God and Orsted

Attempts to kill Roxy expose the Human God’s involvement. Zelos claims that Cain and Roxy’s union will destroy the world and that Cain is destined to serve the Dragon God; these are presented as the Human God’s assertions, not established facts 70.

Cain’s first meeting with Orsted becomes a battle because each suspects the other of serving the Human God. Their confrontation ends when Cain threatens mutual destruction with a divine-rank fireball and forces an agreement to cooperate against their shared enemy 86 87 88.

Eris’s Teacher and the Dragon God’s Blade

At Orsted’s request, Cain agrees to protect Eris. After he and Ghislaine become stranded and nearly starve, Eris and Sauros rescue them; the two swordsmen enter the household as instructors and guards 95 102.

Cain defeats Alexander, develops magic-fusion swordsmanship through Auber’s advice, and publicly identifies himself as the Dragon God’s Blade. His training methods become increasingly pragmatic, combining sword speed, magic, armor, and deliberate provocation 117 124 139 168.

Demon Continent Journey and Rescue Missions

Cain travels with Rudeus, Eris, and Ruijerd, defeating dangerous monsters while depending on companions for navigation. Alexander joins after another defeat, bringing the party to five members 186 196.

He intervenes against exploitation and trafficking, restrains unnecessary violence within the party, and supports searches for missing relatives. When Rudeus is stranded and pursued by bandits, Cain recovers the stolen King Dragon Sword, freezes a sea route, and reaches him before he is killed 204 217 220 238.

Mastery and Legacy

Cain’s completed Battle Aura and white Fighting God Armor mark a shift from pursuing power for its own sake to protecting those he loves 225.

When Eris leaves for the Sword Sanctum, he refuses to accompany her because his presence could undermine Gal under the dojo’s winner-takes-all rules. There, Gal finally corrects the public account of Cain’s departure and accepts Eris as a student, treating her training as repayment to his former disciple 252 253.
