Nature and Cultivation

Soul Power is the energy unique to Douluo Continent that flows through a Soul Master after Martial Soul Possession. Lin Huo first identifies it as the strange energy circulating within his body after Charmander possesses him. 3

Meditation is the basic method used to cultivate Soul Power. A practitioner must calm their mind, establish a connection with their Martial Soul, draw external Soul Power into their body through that connection, and refine the absorbed energy with their existing Soul Power. 29

• Soul Power can be measured through a crystal ball during Martial Soul awakening. 2
• A person's initial amount is called Innate Soul Power. 2
• Innate Soul Power, Martial Soul quality, diligent cultivation, and access to factional resources all affect a Soul Master's future prospects. 2

Uses

Martial Soul Possession

Soul Power supports Martial Soul Possession, which can significantly enhance the user's body. After Charmander's possession, Lin Huo estimates that his strength and reaction speed increase by more than three to four times. 3

Skill Activation

Pokémon-derived special attacks consume Soul Power. Ember, for example, costs Lin Huo roughly one-twentieth of his total Soul Power at Level Six. 3

• Ember — Consumes Soul Power to gather and release orange-yellow flames. 3
• Growl — Consumes considerably more Soul Power than Ember; its cost rises with the target's Soul Power, while a successful use reduces the target's strength by roughly thirty percent. 13
• Ingrain — Uses Soul Power to generate roots that draw nutrients and a small amount of environmental Soul Power from the ground. 13 14
• Meditation enhancement — After at least half an hour of Meditation and a large Soul Power expenditure, Lin Huo can increase his Special Attack and Special Defense by one stage per successful enhancement. 17

Pressure and Combat

Soul Power can be released as oppressive pressure. Huo Tian identifies Lals as a Soul King through the information conveyed by his Soul Power pressure, while Lals uses his own pressure in an attempt to intimidate Lin Huo. 4

Soul Power level is a major dividing line in combat. Soul Masters are generally considered superior to Soul Warriors in Soul Power strength, physical strength, and access to Soul Ring-derived skills. 23

Relationship to Martial Souls and Soul Rings

Soul Power is closely tied to Martial Souls. Martial Soul quality is normally considered related to Innate Soul Power, making Lin Huo's powerful fire-attributed Charmander Martial Soul and merely Level Five innate Soul Power an anomaly in Huo Lie's assessment. 24

• Fire-attributed Martial Souls can grant their users fire resistance through both their bodies and Soul Power. 24
• Soul Rings introduce violent Soul Power during absorption; inadequately trained parts of the body are especially vulnerable to failure or backlash. 27
• A stronger physical constitution can improve a Soul Master's tolerance for Soul Rings, reduce the risk of absorption failure, and lessen backlash if an absorption fails. 27
• Lin Huo believes greater mental strength may help resist the soul impact of higher-aged Soul Rings, though he delays testing this theory until he has more knowledge. 17

Limitations

• Soul Power is finite; repeated use of Growl leaves Lin Huo with only about two-tenths of his reserves despite rest and recovery between tests. 13
• Higher-cost skills cannot be used freely. Growl consumes a full tenth of Lin Huo's Soul Power against a training dummy, far exceeding Ember's cost. 3 13
• Improper handling of Soul Power is dangerous. Lin Huo avoids experimenting recklessly because he lacks sufficient knowledge and fears damaging his meridians. 3
• Meditation is difficult for ordinary beginner Soul Masters because it requires calmness, Martial Soul communication, external absorption, and internal refinement at the same time. 29
