Background / History

Before the apocalypse, Su Xiaorou worked as a warehouse employee at Lin Dong's supermarket, receiving supplier deliveries and helping manage its rapidly expanding stockpile. She was a college student working part-time to pay her tuition. 1 2

When Lin Dong closed the supermarket indefinitely, she believed she had lost her job. Although dejected, she gratefully accepted his offer of double wages for the month. 2

She later took warehouse work at the university cafeteria, where she hid in the cold-storage area with several survivors. The other survivors abandoned her outside the freezer, and another girl pushed her toward the pursuing Female Zombie to buy time. 11 12

The Female Zombie pinned Su Xiaorou down but released her to kill the girl who had sacrificed her. Su Xiaorou then recognized Lin Dong as her former employer and immediately agreed to work for him in exchange for her life. 12

Her former experience as a warehouse keeper proved essential when Tank could not break through the cold-storage door: Su Xiaorou retrieved its key and gave it to Lin Dong, allowing him to access the survivors and stored supplies inside. 12

Afterward, Su Xiaorou confronted the chefs who had locked her out, but left their fate to Lin Dong. She drove the box truck back from the university and continued doing so when ordered, seeking to demonstrate that she was useful enough to keep alive. 13 14

Following the destruction of Zhao Peng's construction-site fortress, Lin Dong housed Su Xiaorou next door to his residence. In return for food, water, and shelter, she became responsible for cleaning, laundry, dishes, and other household work. 16

When Lin Dong first activated Corpse Domain, Su Xiaorou was caught within its range. The domain left her paralyzed, terrified by visions of corpses and blood, and exhausted after she escaped its radius. She chose not to question Lin Dong after witnessing him seemingly emerge from the kitchen despite having vanished from the living room. 17

Several months later, Lin Dong selected Su Xiaorou as a human subject for an Evolution Serum injection. Though frightened that her weight gain meant he had been fattening her for consumption, she accepted the injection when it became clear that the alternative was not immediate death. The serum caused symptoms associated with a condensing Brain Core, but no subsequent awakened ability has been confirmed. 146 147

Su Xiaorou later witnessed Lin Dong absorb Night Fiend's Double-S-Rank Mental Crystal Core and manifest Illusion Creation. Although Lin Dong called it a “tiny” new ability, its oppressive aura alarmed her, and she privately worried that learning too much about his evolution might lead him to silence her. 453

While Lin Dong was absent on extended campaigns, Su Xiaorou remained in his apartment with ample food supplies. She continued maintaining the residence, but used her free time to eat snacks, drink cola, and play video games. 619 620

Before departing for a dangerous northern operation, Lin Dong told her to flee if he did not return. Su Xiaorou, who had initially been pleased at the prospect of having the home to herself, became genuinely worried by the warning. 624

After the apocalypse ended, Lin Dong returned to find Su Xiaorou still living in the clean residence. He advised her to lose weight and plan her future, confirming to her that the apocalypse was over. 899

Personality

Before the apocalypse, Su Xiaorou was self-reliant and strong-willed. Despite having many admirers, she chose to support herself through work rather than depend on a boyfriend for security. 11

After being betrayed by the cafeteria survivors, she becomes intensely pragmatic. She quickly accepts Lin Dong's offer of servitude, retrieves the cold-storage key, volunteers to drive, and performs household tasks diligently because her continued survival depends on remaining useful. 12 13 16

She remains deeply afraid of Lin Dong and his underlings. While they eat the survivors who abandoned her, she suppresses her nausea because she fears making Lin Dong angry; she also avoids pressing him for answers after being affected by Corpse Domain. 13 17

Despite this fear, her long-term security in Lin Dong's household makes her more comfortable around him. She can recognize that he has evolved, quietly observe his strange behavior, and enjoy games and snacks after completing her work, though she remains anxious about provoking him or becoming expendable. 453 620

Su Xiaorou also shows genuine concern for Lin Dong despite their unequal relationship. His warning that she should flee if he failed to return from a dangerous mission unsettled her considerably. 624
