Appearance

Tang Hao is a powerfully built man with a burly frame, a sharply defined face, and an upright, unyielding bearing. 12 115 126

  • Wields the enormous pitch-black Clear Sky Hammer. 12
  • His physique develops visible cracks when repeated Ring Detonation pushes his body beyond its limits. 128 130
  • His bloodshot eyes and hoarse roars during the battle with the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect reflect his grief and rage after A Zhi’s sacrifice. 127 129
  • After years in Holy Soul Village, he appears unkempt and worn down, reflecting his poverty and diminished condition. 148 169
  • Upon learning of the Clear Sky Sect’s destruction, he sits slumped in a corner of his blacksmith shop, surrounded by discarded wine bottles, with a dispirited expression. 226

Personality

Tang Hao is hot-blooded, proud, and instinctively protective of the women he loves. When Qian Xunji singled out A Yin, he immediately summoned his Clear Sky Hammer and challenged the Pope despite the vast difference in power and the danger to his sect. 12 13 He initially treated the Clear Sky Sect’s reputation as proof that he could defy Spirit Hall, until Tang Xiao forced him to confront how dependent the sect’s prestige was on the missing Tang Chen. 13

His strongest trait is devotion. He was willing to risk Ring Detonation to rescue A Yin after knowing her for less than half a month, and later spent three years fleeing the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect rather than surrender A Zhi. 15 126 Even when offered his own life and Tang San’s safety in exchange for A Zhi, he refused. 126

Tang Hao can learn restraint when faced with responsibility. After losing A Yin, he accepted that trying to save her could doom the Clear Sky Sect and chose to continue cultivating instead. 16 However, his later confidence in his strength and his willingness to use increasingly destructive techniques show that his impulsiveness never fully disappears. 115 127 130

After A Zhi’s death, his determination to keep their promise to protect Tang San carried him to Holy Soul Village despite near-fatal injuries. 132 Grief, guilt, and drinking subsequently made him a neglectful father: he spent much of his blacksmithing income on alcohol while Tang San grew up malnourished. 148 159 175 He recognizes that his treatment of Tang San weakened the boy’s prospects, but his resentment over A Yin and distrust of Spirit Hall continue to influence his decisions about his son’s future. 161 172 178

His recognition of his failures does not produce a lasting improvement in his conduct. By the time Tang San is nine, Tang Hao has largely stopped working and takes his son’s remaining money to buy alcohol. He defends Tang San’s smithing as training in the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer, while Old Jack condemns him for making a child support him. 207

The Clear Sky Sect’s destruction intensifies his grief and fixation on revenge. Tang San remains both his reason to live and the person upon whom he places the obligation to avenge his relatives. Tang Hao assumes that his son should inherit the sect’s hatred despite never having known it, and reacts angrily when Tang San refuses. When the boy questions his failure to save A Zhi without her sacrifice, Tang Hao is left speechless and eventually acknowledges that his son has developed ideas of his own. 226 230

Abilities & Skills

Clear Sky Hammer

Tang Hao possesses the Clear Sky Hammer, regarded as the continent’s foremost tool-type Martial Soul for destructive power. 127

  • Initially displayed seven soul rings while protecting A Yin. 12
  • Possessed eight soul rings as a Level 90 Quasi-Titled Douluo during the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s ambush. 127
  • Gained a ninth, hundred-thousand-year soul ring through A Zhi’s sacrifice. 129
  • Its overwhelming force allowed him to slaughter large numbers of attacking soul masters and carve a pit hundreds of meters wide into the ground. 127 128
  • His later injuries prevent him from drawing on his former Titled Douluo strength. 148 159

Clear Sky Avatar

Tang Hao’s seventh soul skill manifests a massive phantom behind him and enlarges his Clear Sky Hammer. 127

  • The avatar’s hammer strikes can kill groups of opponents at once. 127
  • He used it while holding off the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s forces in defense of A Zhi and Tang San. 127

Divine Slaughter’s Domain

Tang Hao can release a killing domain that coats his Clear Sky Avatar in crimson energy. 127

  • Produces such dense killing intent that weaker soul masters become frightened to approach. 127
  • Its suppression can be reduced by the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect’s support abilities. 127

Ring Detonation

A Clear Sky Sect secret technique that detonates Tang Hao’s soul rings to gain a temporary surge in strength. 115 127

  • Detonating successive rings allowed the Level 90 Tang Hao to reach combat power comparable to a Titled Douluo. 127 128
  • The technique inflicts severe physical strain; cracks spread across his body after repeated use. His inherited Clear Sky Sect soul bones helped him withstand its burden during the gorge battle. 128
  • Soul rings damaged through Ring Detonation cannot quickly recover, temporarily depriving the user of their soul skills. 130
  • After A Zhi’s sacrifice restored his rings and healed his body, he performed Nine-Ring Detonation against Chen Xin and Gu Rong. 129 130
  • The backlash from that final use contributed to the severe injuries that left his cultivation unrecovered years later. 132 148
  • Even after his wounds eventually healed, the damage to his origin remained, preventing a recovery of his former strength. 226

Great Sumeru Hammer and Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer

Tang Hao employs the Clear Sky Sect’s hammer techniques in conjunction with Ring Detonation. 130

  • Used Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer, Ninety-Nine into One to deliver a final concentrated strike against Chen Xin and Gu Rong. 130
  • His fully detonated nine-ring state enabled him to exchange blows with both a Level 96 Super Douluo and a Level 95 Titled Douluo. 130
  • Later attempted to teach Tang San the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer through blacksmithing, but stopped when the physically frail boy could not learn it. 167
  • Subsequently resumed the effort by assigning Tang San daily smithing practice. In this training context, the technique is described as combining eighty-one strikes into one and functioning as a self-created soul skill for hammer-type Martial Souls. 186 207

Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Ring

A Zhi’s sacrifice transformed her into Tang Hao’s hundred-thousand-year soul ring. 129

  • Healed his accumulated injuries and restored the rings he had previously detonated. 129
  • Raised him from Level 90 to Level 92, making him a Titled Douluo. 129
  • Greatly amplified the potential power of his Ring Detonation technique. 129

Blacksmithing

After losing access to his former strength, Tang Hao earned a living by running a blacksmith shop in Holy Soul Village. He initially tried to use the work to teach Tang San hammer techniques. 148 167

He later arranged for Tang San to practice smithing each morning before the academy term resumed, stressing that the work should not interfere with soul-power cultivation. By the time Tang San was nine, the boy was forging iron tools while Tang Hao had largely ceased working himself. 186 207

Cultivation Guidance

Tang Hao retains the knowledge of a former Titled Douluo and Clear Sky Sect heir, although he does not consistently teach it to Tang San. 178

  • After Tang San acquired Spider Web Restraint from a hundred-year Man Faced Demon Spider, Tang Hao attributed its especially potent poison to the Death Spider Emperor Martial Soul and advised him to select poisonous soul beasts for future rings. 186
  • Proposed that Tang San first cultivate the Death Spider Emperor to the Titled Douluo level, then add nine ten-thousand-year soul rings to the Clear Sky Hammer. He believed this approach would make Tang San the continent’s strongest soul master and enable him to avenge the Clear Sky Sect. This remains Tang Hao’s proposed plan rather than an achieved advancement. 230

Relationships

  • Tang Xiao — Older brother, fellow Clear Sky Sect prodigy, and Tang Hao’s principal restraint. Tang Xiao repeatedly stopped him from endangering the sect over A Yin and later urged him to abandon his lingering attachment to her. After the sect went into hiding, Tang Xiao continued searching for Tang Hao despite opposition from its elders. 13 15 16 50 60 163 Tang Xiao’s death in the Clear Sky Sect’s destruction devastates Tang Hao, who vows that Tang San will avenge him. 226
  • Tang Wei — Father and former Clear Sky Sect master. Tang Hao blames himself for Tang Wei’s death in the sect’s war against the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and regrets being unable to return to help. 13 148
  • Younger sister — Died in the Clear Sky Sect’s destruction. Tang Hao mourns her alongside Tang Xiao and promises that their nephew will avenge them. 226
  • A Yin — Former traveling companion and Tang Hao’s first love. He tried to protect her from Qian Xunji, but she left with the Pope after revealing herself as a hundred-thousand-year transformed Blue Silver Emperor. Years later, Tang Hao acknowledges that resentment over her departure still shapes his hostility toward Spirit Hall. 12 14 15 171 172
  • Qian Xunji — Spirit Hall Pope who exposed A Yin’s identity and took her away. Tang Hao feared and resented him, while recognizing that confronting him could bring disaster upon the Clear Sky Sect. 13 16 20 Tang Hao’s lingering grudge against Qian Xunji contributes to his refusal to let Tang San join Spirit Hall. 171 172
  • A Zhi — Tang Hao’s wife, a transformed hundred-thousand-year Death Spider Emperor. He protected her through three years of pursuit by the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect; she ultimately sacrificed herself to save him and Tang San. Tang Hao continues to grieve for her and keeps the soul bone she left behind for their son. 109 126 128 129 132 172 When Tang San later refuses to avenge the Clear Sky Sect, Tang Hao invokes A Zhi’s death as a separate reason to fight their enemies. Tang San agrees to avenge her but questions why Tang Hao did not remain behind to cover her escape. 230
  • Tang San — Tang Hao and A Zhi’s son. Tang Hao carried him while fighting after A Zhi’s sacrifice and escaped with him after the battle. 126 129 130 Though Tang Hao initially neglected him and dismissed his innate seventh-level soul power, discovering Tang San’s twin Martial Souls renewed his hopes and prompted him to support the boy’s cultivation. 159 160 161 He later gave Tang San A Zhi’s hundred-thousand-year soul bone while withholding details of their enemies. 179 180 By age nine, Tang San supports his increasingly idle father, who takes his remaining money for alcohol. 207 Their relationship becomes openly strained when Tang Hao reveals their Clear Sky Sect origins and demands revenge. Tang San refuses the sect’s vendetta while agreeing to avenge his mother, leaving Tang Hao unable to impose his expectations on him. 230
  • Old Jack — Holy Soul Village chief who rescued Tang Hao and Tang San after their escape. He continues to help Tang San, but frequently confronts Tang Hao over his drinking, neglect, and refusal to let the boy join Spirit Hall. 132 148 169 171 172 His anger escalates when Tang Hao begins relying on Tang San’s income; he nearly strikes Tang Hao with finished iron tools before Tang San intervenes. 207
  • Ning Fengzhi — Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect master who ordered Tang Hao’s surveillance and capture to seize A Zhi’s soul ring and soul bone. Tang Hao’s hatred for him persists after the battle. 115 126 132 Following the Clear Sky Sect’s destruction, Tang Hao denounces Ning Fengzhi as a hypocrite for professing solidarity among the Upper Three Sects while attacking another member, and regrets failing to kill him in the canyon. 226
  • Chen Xin and Gu Rong — Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect protectors who pursued Tang Hao and fought him after A Zhi’s sacrifice. Tang Hao’s final attack left Chen Xin without his left arm and seriously wounded Gu Rong. 126 129 130 131

Story Role and Major Arcs

A Yin’s Exposure

Tang Hao and Tang Xiao encountered Qian Xunji while traveling with A Yin. Believing her to be an ordinary soul master, Tang Hao promised to protect her and threatened the Pope with his Clear Sky Hammer when Qian Xunji singled her out. 11 12 Tang Xiao forced him to withdraw after warning that attacking Spirit Hall’s Pope could be treated as the Clear Sky Sect declaring war. 13

After A Yin admitted that she was a transformed soul beast and chose to leave with Qian Xunji, Tang Hao was devastated. He considered sacrificing all seven rings to rescue her, but Tang Xiao stopped him and made him acknowledge that the entire Clear Sky Sect could suffer for his choice. 14 15 16

Years of Regret

Tang Hao continued training with Tang Xiao and reached Rank 80, but recurring chest pains and grief kept A Yin in his thoughts. 20 Seeing her alive as Qian Xunji’s bride reignited his anguish, though Tang Xiao prevented him from causing an incident in Spirit City. 49 50

By the time Qian Xunji and A Yin’s children awakened their Martial Souls, Tang Hao had accepted that A Yin was happy and wished her well. 56 He then separated from Tang Xiao to continue cultivating until he could become a Titled Douluo. 60

A Zhi and the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect Pursuit

Tang Hao later fell in love with A Zhi, unaware that she was a transformed hundred-thousand-year Death Spider Emperor. 109 The Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect discovered her identity and decided to capture her for her soul ring and soul bone. 114 115

For three years, Tang Hao evaded the sect’s pursuit through Ring Detonation while his requests for aid were intercepted. 126 When Ning Fengzhi, Chen Xin, Gu Rong, and a large force finally surrounded Tang Hao, A Zhi, and their infant son, he refused every demand to surrender her. 126 127

A Zhi’s Sacrifice

Tang Hao used Clear Sky Avatar, Divine Slaughter’s Domain, and repeated Ring Detonation to fight the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. 127 128 Unable to escape with Tang San, A Zhi sacrificed herself to Tang Hao, restoring his rings, healing his body, and raising him to Level 92. 128 129

Driven by grief and vengeance, Tang Hao detonated all nine soul rings and fought Chen Xin and Gu Rong directly. 130 His final attack threatened Ning Fengzhi and the surrounding forces, forcing Chen Xin and Gu Rong to shield them. Chen Xin lost his left arm, Gu Rong was seriously wounded, and Tang Hao escaped with Tang San. 130 131

Escape and Life in Holy Soul Village

The backlash from Ring Detonation and sword qi left by Chen Xin reduced Tang Hao to a near-fatal state. He fled through the night carrying Tang San, driven by his promise to A Zhi, before collapsing at the entrance to Holy Soul Village. Village chief Old Jack found them and enlisted the villagers to bring Tang Hao to safety. 132

Tang Hao remained in the village after the Clear Sky Sect’s retaliatory war with the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. His father died, the Clear Sky Sect went into hiding, and Tang Hao—still unable to recover his cultivation—could not find it. He supported himself and Tang San through blacksmithing but spent much of his earnings on alcohol. 148 159 163 He blames himself for the conflict and the sect’s losses, while continuing to desire revenge against the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. 148 180

Tang San’s Awakening and Training

When six-year-old Tang San awakened the Death Spider Emperor Martial Soul with innate seventh-level soul power, Tang Hao judged his talent inadequate and rejected Su Yuntao’s invitation for him to join Spirit Hall. His attitude changed when Tang San revealed a second Martial Soul, the Clear Sky Hammer. Tang Hao then agreed to support his cultivation, though he believed his own neglect had lowered Tang San’s innate soul power. 160 161

Tang Hao tried unsuccessfully to teach Tang San the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer. He warned the boy never to reveal his Clear Sky Hammer to outsiders, fearing their enemies would discover them, and allowed him to enroll at Nuoding Junior Soul Master Academy rather than Spirit Hall. 167 169 Despite Old Jack’s objections and Tang San’s interest in joining Spirit Hall, Tang Hao maintained his refusal. He later admitted to Old Jack that the grudge began when Spirit Hall took A Yin away. 169 171 178

Concerned that the academy might provide Tang San with only a ten-year first soul ring, Tang Hao asked Old Jack to help raise village funds for a hundred-year ring. He also retrieved A Zhi’s hidden hundred-thousand-year Death Spider Emperor Right Leg Bone and gave it to Tang San to help compensate for his weakened constitution, warning him to conceal its abilities. 172 179 Tang San subsequently obtained a hundred-year first soul ring with Su Yuntao’s help. 182

During the collection of village funds, the villagers insisted that Tang Hao not control the money because of his drinking. Tang Hao acknowledged his past failures, thanked them on Tang San’s behalf, and recorded the contributions while Old Jack counted and held the money. 175

When Tang San returned with his first soul ring, Tang Hao eagerly questioned him about the hunt and learned that he had gained the poisonous Spider Web Restraint skill from a hundred-year Man Faced Demon Spider. He advised Tang San to pursue poisonous beast soul rings and arranged daily morning smithing practice before school resumed, again hoping to teach him the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer. 186

Increasing Dependence on Tang San

By the time Tang San was nine, Tang Hao had become increasingly idle and relied on his son’s allowance while the boy forged iron tools. Old Jack rebuked him for forcing a child to support him, but Tang Hao insisted that the smithing was training in the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer. 207

Tang Hao demanded money from Tang San and took the few remaining Silver Soul Coins and Copper Soul Coins the boy possessed. Old Jack picked up the finished iron tools to strike him, but Tang San intervened. Tang Hao then left to buy alcohol, and Old Jack departed after warning Tang San that his father would ruin him. 207

Destruction of the Clear Sky Sect

News reached Holy Soul Village that the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect had found the Clear Sky Sect’s hidden location and destroyed it. Tang Hao, who had remained outside the sect for years, survived the massacre, but learned that Tang Xiao, his younger sister, and the sect members he had known were dead. 226

Unable to retaliate because his origin had never recovered, Tang Hao drank to numb his grief and vowed that Tang San would become the strongest Titled Douluo and avenge the sect. He denounced Ning Fengzhi’s hypocrisy, regretted not killing him during the canyon battle, and wished Spirit Hall would destroy the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect as it had the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. 226

Tang San separately heard of the destruction at the academy and suspected that his Clear Sky Hammer connected him to the fallen sect. Unlike his father, he felt no attachment to a sect that had never helped raise him and chose to conceal his hammer and strengthen himself rather than confront its destroyers. 226

Conflict over the Inherited Vendetta

Tang Hao eventually told Tang San that he came from the Clear Sky Sect and that the Clear Sky Hammer was its inherited Martial Soul. He identified the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect as their mortal enemy and demanded that Tang San avenge the destroyed sect. To support this expectation, he outlined a cultivation plan in which Tang San would reach Titled Douluo with his Death Spider Emperor before adding nine ten-thousand-year rings to the Clear Sky Hammer. 230

Tang San refused to shoulder the Clear Sky Sect’s hatred. Tang Hao reacted with anger at his son’s defiance and revealed A Zhi’s identity as a transformed hundred-thousand-year Death Spider Emperor, explaining that she had sacrificed herself to enable their escape and had left Tang San his soul bone. 230

Although Tang San agreed to avenge his mother, he maintained that the sect’s grudge had nothing to do with him. He also asked why Tang Hao had not held off their pursuers so that A Zhi could escape with him, rather than surviving through her sacrifice. Tang Hao could not answer and was left sitting helplessly after Tang San returned to his room, acknowledging that the boy had grown up and formed his own opinions. 230
