Background / History

During Thor’s exile on Earth, Loki deceived him into believing Odin had died and that he must remain permanently banished to preserve peace with Jotunheim. He sent the Destroyer to eliminate Thor, but Thor’s self-sacrifice restored his worthiness and power. 60

With Thor returning sooner than expected, Loki accelerated his succession scheme. He froze Heimdall with the Casket of Ancient Winters, planned to admit Laufey into Asgard, then intended to ambush Laufey during an attack on Odin and pose as his father’s savior. Thor, Lu Xi, and Laufey’s unexpected meeting at the Bifrost exposed the plot before it could succeed. 61

Thor later brought the frozen Loki back to Asgard for imprisonment. Loki secretly freed himself, used illusion magic to trap guards, opened other cells to create a riot, and escaped through hidden passages beyond Heimdall’s sight. 62 63 64

Odin publicly condemned Loki for conspiring with the Frost Giants, attempting to seize the throne, and inciting prison unrest. He stripped Loki of his princely status, expelled him from the Asgardian pantheon, and placed a bounty on his capture. 64

Loki hid in New York with the mind-controlled Erik Selvig, stole iridium, and prepared a device to use the Tesseract as an interstellar portal. Though he claimed the coming Chitauri invasion would secure Earth for him, he delayed the plan out of fear of Earth’s heroes and Lu Xi. 89 91

At Stark Tower, Loki opened the portal and declared himself Earth’s supreme king. Hundreds of Asgardian warriors immediately overwhelmed him, seized his Mind Scepter, and beat him into a barely recognizable state before Thor arrived. 94 96 101

While later forced into a Mirror Dimension fight, Loki relied on an illusory double and invisibility to attempt an escape. The enclosed arena prevented him from fleeing, and he was defeated by Pierce. 109

Lu Xi rejected Odin’s presumed sentence of lifelong imprisonment and instead offered Loki a Soul Contract: two years in prison followed by service to Lu Xi. Loki reluctantly accepted the arrangement. 111

By the time Lu Xi became Asgard’s eternal God King, Loki was openly terrified of him and immediately assumed he was being punished whenever Lu Xi summoned him. Lu Xi eventually released him from the contract after selecting Lokie, a female variant, to undertake the Time Variance Authority plan. 237 238 241

Loki is ambitious, deceitful, and highly invested in appearances. His Asgardian coup relied on manipulating Thor’s grief, isolating Heimdall, collaborating with Laufey, and arranging a staged rescue that would make him appear worthy of the throne. 60 61

His confidence deteriorates sharply when confronted by stronger opponents. He concealed himself from Earth’s heroes, delayed activating the Tesseract portal out of fear of Lu Xi, and reframed attempted escapes as “tactical retreats.” 91 109

When facing Lu Xi’s authority, Loki becomes intensely survival-focused. He accepted a humiliating Soul Contract rather than risk permanent imprisonment and later eagerly cooperated when Lu Xi used him to trace Loki variants. 111 238

God of Stories Loki

The God of Stories is the strongest known Loki variant: a former 2012 Tesseract thief who became the anchor of the Time Tree and stabilized collapsing multiversal timelines through his own existence. 231

He wielded the Destiny Law as its second-ranked secondary authority before Lu Xi surpassed him. His goal was to seize Lu Xi’s Destiny authority and use it to advance beyond the Multiversal-level. 232 245

Bound to the Time Tree Throne, he could not confront Lu Xi directly without severely reducing his available power. He therefore acted through phantoms, avatars, manipulated destiny, and attacks launched from dimensional rifts. 232 236 255

He attempted to stop Lu Xi’s replacement plan by sending an avatar to kill a female Loki variant, but Lu Xi had prepared an ambush and destroyed it instantly. The loss damaged Loki’s origin and weakened his position further. 242 243

Later, Loki anchored the End-of-Time Dimension within Oblivion’s Realm and sabotaged escape attempts during the battle against the Living Tribunal. He used guerrilla attacks to disrupt Lu Xi, Eternity, Infinity, and Oblivion, but was ultimately killed in the ensuing dimensional catastrophe. 254 255 257

Lokie is a female Loki variant selected by Lu Xi to reproduce the God of Stories’ path to power. 240 241
