Background

Lu Xi was originally from the year 2025. He was transported across time and space into 2008 New York, awakening naked in a wrecked yard with three pairs of white wings and greatly heightened senses. Daisy Lewis found him and identified him as an angel—then guessed that he was Lucifer Morningstar. 3

Although Lu Xi initially did not understand the connection, Mephisto and the Ancient One independently recognized him as Lucifer. The real black-winged Lucifer of Hell later denied ever leaving his domain, making Lu Xi’s identity an immediate mystery. 6 8

Lu Xi eventually met an elderly Lucifer from another universe. The elder explained that Lucifers exist across the multiverse and selected Lu Xi as a successor, calling him the “purest Lucifer” because his original world had no Heaven, Hell, or corresponding authority. 41 42

Appearance

Lu Xi has an Eastern appearance, a sculpted and muscular physique, and three pairs of pure-white wings. His wings initially could only fold together, but he later learned to fully retract them. 3 10

Lu Xi is practical, self-assured, and highly transactional. He avoids reckless action when he lacks information, but he is equally willing to use overwhelming force when challenged. His arrangements with S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra, Kamar-Taj, Asgard, and individual contractors are usually framed as exchanges of power, protection, information, or souls. 9 27 52 66

He is mischievous and enjoys humiliating arrogant opponents. He taunts Mephisto during their battle, exposes Nick Fury’s embarrassing secret, tests Hydra’s obedience through cruel commands, and rides Hoggoth as though he were a mount. 32 48 55 140

Despite his self-interest, Lu Xi is not indiscriminately cruel. He frees Ghost Rider rather than killing him, heals Thor’s physical injuries, protects Stephen Strange from dying in the staged car crash, and accepts responsibility for Earth and Asgard when it benefits both himself and his allies. 6 59 66
