Initial Clue (Thanks to FFFYYYSSS for the two gifts of support! Much appreciated)
One evening, a few days after the competition ended, Su Yu was nestled on the sofa in the Slytherin Common Room. The fire in the fireplace was burning brightly, warming the dark green velvet sofa. Kurama was lying on his lap, its tail occasionally flicking and brushing against the back of Su Yu's hand.
Su Yu patted Kurama's back with one hand, flipped through the Potions notes he had borrowed from Daphne with the other, and had a piece of toast he had taken from the kitchen in his mouth.
The door to the common room was pushed open.
Isolde Rozier walked in, wearing a dark gray trench coat with the collar turned up, obscuring half her face. Her long, dark hair was tied back, and her features were sharp. Her high heels clicked on the stone floor. Su Yu looked up from the sofa and glanced at her.
"Hey, Isolde, what brings you here today?" Su Yu swallowed the bread, put Kurama off his lap, and patted the spot next to him.
Isolde sat down next to Su Yu and pulled a thick ancient book from the inside pocket of her trench coat.
"Can we get down to business first, boss..." This was how Su Yu had Isolde address him, as Su Yu felt it sounded more like a secretary.
The book's cover was made of dark brown leather, with badly worn edges and the gold lettering on the spine was so blurred that it was almost illegible.
"I borrowed it from the library's restricted area," Isolde continued. "I think you should take a look, boss. Professor Graves said it might be related to the recent Goblin riots."
Upon hearing that it was related to Goblin riot, Su Yu took the book and carefully flipped through it. It really was a terrible book. The pages were yellowed like ginkgo leaves in autumn, the edges were curled up, some places were eaten by insects, some places were soaked in water, and the writing was blurred into a mess. He flipped through a few pages, frowned, and then flipped through the next page, his finger stopping at the missing page.
"It's missing," Su Yu said. "Four pages are missing from the most crucial part."
"Hmm." Isolde stood across the coffee table, arms crossed. "Professor Graves said those four pages should contain secrets about Ancient Magic."
Su Yu closed the book, looked up at her. "The secrets of Ancient Magic? Where did you get it?"
"On the shelf in the restricted area," Isolde said, "There's a drawing tucked into the spine of this book." She pulled another neatly folded piece of parchment from her trench coat pocket, unfolded it, and placed it on the coffee table. The parchment contained a sketch, signed Richard Jack.
"I've also looked into Richard Jack, he's now a member of the Headless Hunt."
Su Yu leaned closer to take a look, his eyes narrowing slightly. "The Headless Hunt? Nearly Headless Nick, always wanted to join them?"
"Yes." Isolde swayed repeatedly. "Those ghosts should know where those pages of the book are. And boss, could you stop touching me like that? Your stockings are pilling..."
Su Yu solemnly withdrew his hand, put away the ancient book and the sketch, stood up, and Kurama jumped onto his shoulder. "Alright, I'll go ask Nick."
Isolde remained seated, and Su Yu looked at her. "Is there anything else?"
"I need to rest for a bit, boss..." Isolde somewhat helplessly, "Why don't you go first?"
Su Yu coughed lightly, pretending not to know anything. "Alright then, I'll head over now. Take care of yourself."
Since Su Yu is not Gryffindor student, he is currently standing in front of the portrait of the Fat Lady Fat Lady, who is holding a glass of wine and tilting her head to look at him.
"You're not from Gryffindor," the Fat Lady said in an unfriendly tone. "What are you doing here, Slytherin student?"
"I'm looking for Nearly Headless Nick," Su Yu answered honestly.
The Fat Lady took a sip of her drink and glanced at him sideways. "I don't know where Nick is, so I can't help you, but you can't go in."
Su Yu stood expressionless in the corridor. Kurama was already baring its teeth and perched on his shoulder, its tail held high and floating in the air, ready to tear the Fat Lady, who looked at him with a sidelong glance, to shreds.
What? Sirius, you don't have the guts to stop her, but your great-aunt Kurama does? Most importantly, this fat can was even looking at her sideways!!!
Several Gryffindor students passing by were too frightened to make a move, quietly leaning against the wall, forming a group around the gate, unable to move forward or backward.
Footsteps suddenly came from the other end of the corridor, light and bouncy. Su Yu turned his head and saw Ginny Weasley carrying a stack of books, bouncing out from around the corner. Her red hair was tied in a low ponytail, and she was wearing a Gryffindor robe with her scarf draped loosely over her shoulders.
"Su Yu?" Ginny saw him, paused for a moment, and then noticed the group of Gryffindor students gathered there. She quickly walked over. "What are you doing here? You can't get into the Gryffindor Common Room."
"I know," Su Yu said. "I'm looking for a way in."
The Gryffindor students watching all took a step back in unison; they were brave, not fools.
"What?" Ginny switched the book to her other hand, tilted her head to look at him, a little confused. "Isn't the gate right here? You're planning to... oh! Merlin's beard! You're planning to storm in!"
Su Yu glanced at the fat can, "It wasn't me, it was Kurama. She can't stand being provoked, especially by someone glaring at her sideways."
"That's because Fat Lady doesn't have a proper face photo! She can't look people in the face! My God..." As she spoke, Ginny quickly took Kurama from Su Yu's shoulder and explained to Kurama while stroking her fur.
Kurama Spinosaurus Form suddenly felt a little awkward, but it couldn't help but huff and snuggle into Ginny, refusing to look at the chubby can.
The surrounding Gryffindor students breathed a sigh of relief, and then Ginny gave the password for the day, leading Su Yu to the Gryffindor Common Room.
The two walked and talked.
"The Headless Hunt?" Ginny's voice lowered, tinged with barely suppressed excitement. "My brothers used to mention them—a bunch of headless ghosts who think they're superior to Nearly Headless Nick, and wouldn't let him join. Nick's been upset about that for centuries." She paused. "Why do you want to see them?"
"I found an ancient book with a few pages torn out." Su Yu was actually a bit embarrassed along the way, almost making a big blunder. "The clues inside point to one of their ghosts, I need to go ask him."
Ginny paused for a moment, then hugged Kurama tighter, resting her chin on his head, her eyes fixed on Su Yu Kurama, her gaze sweeping over his face twice.
(I know this part doesn't conform to the original story, but it reflects some of my personal experience. When I was in high school, my deskmate's girlfriend was stolen by someone else, and he insisted on fighting with the other guy. When I got there, I saw that the other guy was always looking at us sideways, never even glancing at us when he spoke. One of the hot-tempered guys went up and slapped him, saying, "Let's get down to business! You're looking at us like that, you're really disrespecting us..." After slapping him, we realized the guy was cross-eyed, and he was actually looking at us directly, but to us, he was looking at us sideways. We quickly apologized to him and bought him a lot of things, at least we shouldn't bully a disabled person... In the end, we felt ashamed and left. We couldn't even keep our own girlfriends, and they were stolen by someone with a cross-eyed look. It was so embarrassing, and we even had to apologize to him...)
